for me it's a toss up between this and Oz for the best HBO show. Oz had some off moments, but overall that was a spectacular show as well.

QUOTE(shipps @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 08:30 AM) Stone has constructive criticism,he is not a guy that is going to throw outlandish statements just to get the pot stirring. He is more of professional than Mariotti and knows where the line is of critical assessments and taking shots at someone. But Ozzie and KW tend to make asses of themselves somtimes so there is a possibility for a future confrontation but not likely. That's the way I feel about it. He's not going to start taking cheap shots to stir the pot. I think any negative comments he makes will involve on the field performance/decisions. As a Sox fan I look forward to that

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) I'm soooooo jealous! What a GREAT time to be in Vegas! yeah, I know a group who always goes and this is the first year I can actually get out there. I can not wait

I like the Diamondbacks with these odds. I'm going to Vegas for the 1st round of the tournament, I'll grab a sheet from Ceasar's with these odds and the fun prop bets

Harvard bans men from gym for certain hours.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 11:22 PM) What if a bunch of men and I didn't want to work out infront of women. Should they take away certain hours for the women? I doubt that would happen. Didn't Butters' dad on South Park sneak off to one of those gyms? -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 02:32 AM) .668 and .645 opposed to .836... Yeah, Nick Swisher won't help the Sox a whole lot at all I think his production against LHPs are worlds better than anything the Sox ran out last year

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) Well I had to ask...Konerko has an Inside the park HR in his career and no one would ever think of that from what I remember it hit a flag pole or some hard piece of metal and the OFer had no chance since it ended up so far away from him. Was it Tampa out to right center?

Report: Brett Favre to retire

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 4, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) As a football fan, I'm going to miss him. As a Bears fan, I say, good riddance. My feelings exactly. ESPN Radio was saying he was pushing hard for the Pack to sign Moss... wonder if him re-signing with the Pats was the thing that pushed his decision into retirement -
QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) Do you think he'd really wanna bulk up though? Not doubting his ability to still be dominant at a bigger weight class, but would you throw him into the fire at top contenders right away or would you give him some midcard guys to get his feet wet. yeah, not sure how well it would work. He basically wouldn't cut I think. I imagine his natural weight is probably around 200, but that would still make him small because many, if not all, of the top 205ers cut. It would be interesting. I just don't know what's left for him at 185 in the UFC

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) I'm stunned, Henderson came out ready to go in that 1st round and it's like Silva flipped a switch in the 2nd. Undoubtedly he is the best pound for pound fighter out there. If i'm Dana I try to get Filho to come over from the WEC and face Silva. There's no one else for him to run through. After the fight last night Silva said he won't fight him, they are friends and training partners. I know anything can change, but there's a few hurdles in that matchup before it would happen

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) I haven't been able to make a call on this one yet. Henderson has never been KO'd, but Silva has been such a buzzsaw. Really looking forward to it. Silva made him tap to RNC in the 2nd round. There was some talk about Silva going to 205 after this fight. Not a whole lot left at 185 for him, I guess Okami would get the shot now if he stays.

Is the media getting a free pass in the steroid issue?
SoxFan562004 replied to SoxFan562004's topic in The Diamond Club
thanks, didn't know that about the Mitchell report, good to see that there was actually some coverage about it. -
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=3270983 a good article about how much was known in lockerrooms about steroids. However, when I read things like this, or basically any coverage of the steroid era is how much the media is getting a free pass IMO. Look, did I expect baseball journalists to automatically know steroids were a major influence, no, but they should have known something was up and dug deeper. I think it's shameful that ESPN (a partner with MLB in many ways) doesn't take a look at itself and other outlets for turning a blind eye. after the latest round of hearings it seems every ESPN baseball expert Mike & Mike had on said the Mitchell report was a bad idea. IMO of course they do, it makes them look bad that basically an investigation of a small portion of baseball unearthed so many names. I don't know, it just drives me crazy and medias ignorance of the problem is a major part of the story being ignored. Does anyone know of any pieces about the medias coverage? I would be interested to see some if I'm missing them

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Any thoughts on tonight's PPV? I'm gonna go with Silva, I'll say 4th round TKO. I haven't been able to make a call on this one yet. Henderson has never been KO'd, but Silva has been such a buzzsaw. Really looking forward to it.

QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) how many years left on roberts contract? and how old is he? http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/roberbr01.shtml 30, looks like he's still on his original contract possibly? Some of the posters on the board are far more familiar with that process/rights than I am, hopefully one can fill in that info
-
I'm not very familiar with the collective barganing agreement, so this is kind of a blind question, but is there any regulations on what he can sign for? Does it have to be a certain percentage of his old contract?

QUOTE(zenryan @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) Anyone watching Tank/Kimbo tonight? I'm throwing some money on Tank with +350 odds. yeah, I'll watch it tonight. It's on Showtime, which I already have, so no extra $$.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) I think a surprising amount will depend on the quality of the evidence McNamee kept. If he actually has a needle with HGH residue and Clemens's blood on it, then it's over. If he turns those things over to the Feds and they find B-12 and only B-12 in it, or can't find a trace of Clemens's blood/find someone else's, then that kills 2 of the 4 biggest problems for Clemens that we know about so far (The other 2 being Pettitte and the housekeeper). I think with the needles and such, the chain of custody may be a major problem for the government

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) Am I the only one that is fascinated by this congressional hearing regarding Roger Clemens and steroids? Maybe it's because I'm such a huge baseball fan and this puts into question all that we've seen over the past 2 decades, but I am drawn to this like a moth to a flame. And am I the only one that thinks a good portion of our 2005 championship team was on something? Especially our bullpen. A lot of people had years that were so out of the norm that it certainly raises my eyebrows. Neal Cotts in 2005 = 1.94 ERA Career (excluding 2005) = 5.60 ERA Cliff Politte in 2005 = 2.00 ERA Career (excluding 2005) = 4.87 ERA Dustin Hermanson in 2005 = 2.04 ERA Career (excluding 2005) = 4.31 ERA Jose Contreras in 2005 = 3.61 ERA Career (excluding 2005) = 4.89 ERA Jon Garland in 2005 = 3.50 ERA Career (excluding 2005) = 4.58 ERA Mark Buehrle also had a career best ERA in 2005 - although not quite as dramatic of an improvement as some of the others. That's 2 starters that improved their career ERA's by more than a full run, as well as our 3 main relievers who had an ERA of less than half of their career numbers. Very suspicious to have that many people on the same team to have such dramatic improvements. bull-pen arms are often very up and down, hence a lot of posters on this board objection to the long term signing of BP guys. Jose was pitching different IMO, ie using his FB to get ahead and then devestating with his fork, when he struggles he throws way too many fork balls MB had an ERA+ higher than his career average last year in '07 http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/buehrma01.shtml There has been no rumors about the '05 White Sox outside of Crazy Carl (I may be missing something, if I am please just post it). To win a WS you need some guys to have a career year or young players to take a major stepup, even the Yanks and Bo Sox need these things. I don't want to do the research but I imagine you can find similar number peaks for many members of WS teams throughout history

well, if the window is correct, anyone care to throw out a guess on years and $$$ ??

Best news for the White Sox, out of AL Central and AL completely

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) November 19, 1993: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Montreal Expos for Delino DeShields. November 18, 1997: Traded by the Montreal Expos to the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later and Carl Pavano. The Boston Red Sox sent Tony Armas (December 18, 1997) to the Montreal Expos to complete the trade. Thanks

Does anyone remember what Pedro was traded for?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 08:13 AM) How do true UFC fans feel about Lesnar? Im just curious if they think he is going to be the real thing, or if he is just a big talker and wont be nearly as great as he tells everyone With his NCAA record I take him seriously. It's a unique situation. Ideally a fighter like this should fight at smaller shows and build up, but the $$ is there with Lesnar. Mir is a tough fight, I am extremely interested to see how that plays out.
