  1. Matt Serra herniated discs in his back and is out of the fight against Hughes in December. No report yet on whether Hughes will stay on card against a new opponent. http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=10087
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Who uses ERA to evaluate a relief pitcher? true, but I like the ERA+ number to evalute pitchers. Whatever, you're right!
  3. I've heard The Hawk talk about how the stadium is on the wrong side of the city to draw attendance. Can anyone familiar with the area explain that?
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:10 AM) That or they wind up in a bidding war for Rowand and pay him $15 million a year. yes, that is still a fear of mine. Before I get flamed, I think Rowand is a good player and could help the Sox, but again, I hope KW has a realistic number for him.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) No he didn't. His WHIP was 1.5 in MIL lower ERA and higher ERA+, 20 points higher in ERA+. Still pitched well IMO
  6. espn.com is backing up the 5/90m number. The numbers being thrown around yesterday were 5/70 from the sox and 6/80-85 from the Rangers. I know a lot of people will think KW got slapped around in this, but hopefully he and the higher ups have limits $$ wise of what they value players at, and instead of getting burdened by an insane contract they have a plan B. What would peoples reaction be if in response to the Angels offer KW gave Hunter a 6 year 105 million or 5 year 95 million deal? Because ultimately that may have been what it took. If you believe the early reports, A-Rod was either going to LAA or the Dodgers. Then the 180 happened with the NYY and he signed with them. Angels are in a big market like the Sox, and are a major revenue team, they need to make big splashy moves. This could have been a reaction to not getting A-Rod It's November 22nd, let's see what happens. Yes, that was my mantra last year also and nothing major really happened, but doesn't mean I think that the roster we see with the Sox will stay the same
  7. I was kind of 50/50 on Hunter, so this isn't the most devistating news I've heard. The thing that concerned me was he's already 32, but what was encouraging was his OPS+ has gone up his last few seasons. I liked the Linebrink signing, I hope KW has some more up his sleeve
  8. http://www.baseball-reference.com/l/linebsc01.shtml good career numbers and he pitched better with MIL in the 2nd half last year in a hitter friendly ball-park. The bullpen was a complete disaster last year outside of Jenks. KW signed a quality reliver, for in this market, a reasonable contract. I think it's a good move.
  9. ESPN 1000 was saying this morning that Texas offer is six year about 85m and the White Sox offer is 5 at about 70. I think those were the numbers, they may be off roughly
  10. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....dnik-desig.html sorry mods if I missed this, please kill it or merge it if needed
  11. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 09:39 AM) The Old Man must be rolling over in his grave with how Rocky has turned the Organ-I-zation upside down. hopefully for us fans it's right side up
  12. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) If Uribe ends up at 3B, somehow...I will boycott the Sox until KW is fired. is that being tossed around?
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) I'm sorry, but USS Mariner greatly undersells Garland. Garland should be easily replaceable? Really? Can they count for me how many pitchers, over the past three seasons, have pitched 600+ innings of an ERA+ of 110 or better? I think that's what frustrates people about Garland. Average wise he had an ERA+ of 110 over the last 3 years, but there's a 105 in 06. He is just frustrating in how up and down he can be from start to start/season to season. But he is a solid pitcher, and I don't think the Angels have crippled their team in any way by adding him.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 12:44 PM) He's a league average starting pitcher. That makes him better than "mediocre" but at the same time nothing special. http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/garlajo01.shtml I know some people don't love stats, but FWIW, he has a Career ERA+ 106, 100 being the average, and I believe that stat is adjusted for ballparks and other factors. So Sabermetric followers would put him at slightly above average over his career. And on the flipside, Cabrera batting wise OPB+ is 85 career, 95 last year, which is below average. That does not take into account fielding. We'll see, it's November 19, if this is the only move KW makes I won't be thrilled, but he has time.
  15. QUOTE(max power @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) California allowed a four man, all in one night, MW tournament on friday. So they could do a PRIDE like 8 or 18 man tournament ending in an all in one night 4 in california. The UFC on saturday was pretty boring. Not much to say there. As to the person who said Anderson Silva is the best MW, we are going to find out if that's true in February or March, when Dan Henderson fights him. I've got hendo in that fight. I would have to see the exact rules on that, but I believe the rounds were short and had a limit of 2. I doubt the UFC would want to do that with the amended rules. Yeah, Saturday was disapointing. They had a couple of fights that , on paper, had a chance to be wars, and it was a let down. The December one has a chance to be really good. Hughes/Serra, Wand/Liddel, and now Sokoduju (sp?)(Last 2 fights he KO'd Lil' Nog and Ricardo Arona)/Machida. Not sure if you're talking about me, but yeah, I posted earlier Silva is dominant, but agree, I favor Henderson in that fight
  16. yeah, all through high school and college, and a little when I was in law school. I had a ton of fun doing it. Enjoyed the musicals because usually would require a dance team of woman, which was always fun!
  17. 1. Perfect World- Guttermouth 2. I'm A Loser- The Beatles 3. Back In Black- AC/DC 4. Sister Christian- Night Ranger 5. Green Green Grass of Home- Tom Jones 6. Mr. Roboto- Styx 7. Jungleland- Bruce Springsteen 8. The Brews- NOFX 9. Sam Simeon- Goldfinger 10. Operation Rescue- Bad Religion
  18. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) So the Yanks would have the most out of position infield in the history of the game. Arod is the best SS the Yanks would have. Lowell would be the best 3B they would have. And Jeter is the most overrated defensive player in the league. Why would Lowell want to move to 1B? He has the best fielding percentage at 3B in the history of the game. What a horrible horrible idea. It is always refreshing to see other people who believe this!
  19. sign it in your own blood, that will likely get their attention!
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) I'll throw the question out to anyone; do you believe baseball is corrupt enough to cover up a positive steroid test of one of the best players (read:money makers, which tends to exclude Palmeiro) in the league? I could see it happening. I will be interested to see this report and who is named. I wouldn't be shocked if it is a bunch of average to slightly above average players without naming huge names, therefore they will celbrate the quantity of names and hope it takes some heat away.
  21. Eckstein is a career .286 hitter. He does have a higher OBP than Uribe, but Uribe has a higher slugging percentage. http://www.baseball-reference.com/e/eckstda01.shtml. To me Uribe and Eckstein is a coin flip. They have different strengths and weaknesses, but neither is spectacular. If you look at their OPS+ stats, they are both below average hitters. I don't know, neither blow me away, Uribe is fine as long as they upgrade other positions
  22. I don't think I could stand the "grinder" articles about Eckstein if he signs
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) Drunk elephants rock. usually they have to go to an after hours bar to get picked up though
  24. I think stadium/field issues are one thing Bud has been looking over. Some of the playing fields/conditions have sucked, and Bud should put pressure on all teams to never let that be a problem. Also, I am still in shock that the Twins are allowed to build an outdoor stadium. That is going to end up being a nightmare IMO. That "Best interest of baseball" clause should have been used
  25. if anyone likes The Ultimate Fighter show and haven't watched in a while I highly suggest catching one of the replays from this weeks shows on Spike this weekend. It is probably the best episode of the show.
