QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 03:00 AM) I thought the PPV was kinda disapointing. Herring should of had that fight won. Sherk did look like an animal in there, but I still wonder if he can actually finish a fight. Evans seemed to fight as if he was scared to get taken down by Tito. A damn shame he lost that due to trying to grab the cage. Silva owned. I don't know anyone who's gonna take the title away from him. It's gonna have to be someone that can match his reach and outdo him on the ground. It depends what they do with Dan Henderson after the Rampage fight. He also holds the PRIDE 183 belt, so if he loses the Rampage fight and put him in the 185 class, I could see that as a good fight

unless something else comes out, this just seems to me the Sox had zero intention of signing MB. IMO what happened was Sox made one final "run" at him for PR purposes and MB really wanted to stay and tried to work with them on a deal that the Sox never had any intention of going through with. I have no clue where KW and the Sox are going to go at this point. they're going to pull the whole "free agent contracts are out of control" routine they pulled this year. I'm really left clueless as to what the big picture plan is This will be one of the biggest slap-in-the-face to the fans during this ownerships regime.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 12:51 AM) Anybody here catch the PPV? SPOILERS BELOW!!! DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE OUTCOMES OF THE FIGHTS Yeah, I watched it, it was a very good PPV. The Big Nog/Herring match was crazy. Herring had him all but finished with a left high kick late in the 1st and didn't finish him. Nog recovered for the victory. Sherk looked like an animal and basically dominated his fight. He had a few scary moments with knees and choke attempts, but he controlled most of the time. Evans/Ortiz ended in a draw. Ortiz had a point taken away in the 2nd for a fence grab that prevented an takedown. Silva dominated Marquardt. TKO in the first. Unless Rich Franklin has improved a ton he will get ripped apart in the rematch

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) Damn that is solid news. I like the way the Bears went about signing their picks this year. Angelo has some flaws, but I really like his work as a GM. Especially the way he and the org. handle the salary cap. They get very creative so they don't end up burdened by old players who they can't cut without taking a huge cap hit. I think the one thing he has hanging out there is the Cedric Benson/Thomas Jones decision. That will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Cardinals Speculation re:Buehrle
SoxFan562004 replied to WSoxMatt's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) Listening to ESPN radio over the weekend I heard that the Cardinals are not intersted in Buehrle at all because Tony LaRussa doesn't think much of him. Supposedly Jockety asked LaRussa if they should go after him and LaRussa said no because he doesn't think much of him. They are not in it to trade for him or sign him during the off season. So I don't care what I keep hearing about the Cardinals and what they are offering for Buehrle, I just don't believe it. I don't think they are after him or are offering anything at all. I think it is just reporters dreaming things up. I don't recall who said this or what show it was on. I believe Carmen DiFalco's show. Maybe Buehrle and his agent know this as well and if the only places Buehrle wants to pitch is here and St. Louis. If St. Louis doesn't want him then his only choice is here. This may be why he is so intent on re-signing here. I bet the Sox get a deal done with him and soon. wow, this is the same guy who it was rumored called Jeff Weaver and begged him to stay with the Cards this offseason, I know which one between MB and Weaver I would want, especially since MB may give the Cards a discount if he hits the market -
this week long drama has gotten to the point where if the Sox don't resign MB or get a killing for him in a trade, I will question KW and this org. I have been a KW supporter for the most part, but if they end up trading him for a couple of B level prospects or a ML bench "grinder" type player, I will view it as a failure.

QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:12 AM) I just watched the Kenny comments on CSN. While he makes some valid points (players in the future asking for full NTC), a pitcher like Buehrle doesn't come along every day and he doesn't come with that discount. If Kenny doesn't think it's a tremendous discount at 4/56, he should just trade him and watch him get 100 million over 7. All I know is I'd hate to be Kenny at Soxfest next year if Buehrle isn't under contract. When other players ask for it KW, and you don't want to give it to them, you just say no.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) That one is interesting, never used that one before. I've used similar things, ie exchanging PMs or e-mails on a message board, only suggestion I would have is meet at a neutral location. I am paranoid when it comes to things like this. I've used restaurants/malls and gas stations on busy intersections... hey just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you!!

Another Paxson "treadmill" season ahead
SoxFan562004 replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm really hoping Pax pulls something off. I think he's done a solid job to this point, but if they just add Noah, they would really be spinning their wheels. As mentioned above, parts of the article seem to say he will do soemthing, probably via trade, I hope that's true -
If the Sox refusal to give a NTC kills this deal and KW fails to get anything in quality in return for MB I will be crushed as a Sox fan. There's not much more I can say about it, this is a major crossroad for the Sox org.

QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 11:09 AM) This has always been a big factor, that is why FL / TEX have big advantages no income tax...also why playing in Canada has been looked poorly upon (bad exchange rates also), what is really interesting is how states charge visiting athletes income taxes for road games (ie. Illinois charges, Shap, A-Rod, etc.) for the six days they work in IL, it is big money. I think when the Blue Jays signed Burnett and Ryan the GM basically came out and said one of the reason the $$ was so high on both were tax reasons
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) ... Interesting. So his contract offer from the Orioles was higher, but he would have taken less money home after taxes. OT, I wonder how often that comes into play in contracts? No wonder the state of Illinois has a $ problem, we tax athletes half as much as anybody else. I think Florida has very low taxes, that came into play when T-Mac and Hill signed with the Magic

Awesome, when Frank retires I hope he becomes a regular fixture around Sox events. Congrats Frank!!

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) Wasn't Offman taken off the baseball beat a year or so ago, because he reported wrong information? I think he reported the Maddux to the NYY before the Cubs signed him, but that was about 2-3 years ago, so it might have been something else more recently
-
OK, i'll be the jackass and not go back and read since I had my 1:30 call... is ESPN still reporting no talks and WSCR still reporting the deal is very close? SORRY!!
-
QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:52 AM) So, where it stands now is no one believes 670 but people are believing the AM 1000 report? for me, history has made me lean towards the AM 1000 report

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) This was on the White Sox Website: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Basically explaining that everything coming out of the Score is pure speculation and neither the organization or Mark could confirm an agreement. well, at least it's not flat out denials by either MBs camp or the Sox, there's a ray of hope still for something to get done
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) Well one radio station has some explaining to do. Either Levine is off his rocker, or the sox flagship is. unfortunately for us Sox fans, WSCR is the one that I would doubt. Not that Bruce is 100% right all the time, but he's on target a hell of a lot more. WSCR should start reporting on Batboy sightings if/when this is proved false
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:33 AM) Offman continues to report this like it's a done deal. "So Buehrle is staying a Jaque Jones . . . he might be staying too." Dear god this is a clusterf*** of ineptitude. he did this on the 12:30 update? Awesome, I love their explinations when this stuff explodes in their face. "Oh, well, we have sources that we trusted before and they let us down this time..."
-
if this is false, I can't imagine it could be the Sox trying a molehunt, or shall I say hope it wouldn't be. If they wanted to do it with the MB situation, I think they would put out a false trade rumor and trace it back. This would be unfairly toying with the fans, while a trade rumor would kind of get swept up in the others out there.
-
QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) ESPN radio said exactly that, that it is bulls***. BTW the ESPN insider article said that Mark really wants to stay with the Sox, and that "going to any other team is a distant second choice" Ouch, the Score should be getting KILLED by callers right now, this kills any credability that station had left
-
QUOTE(Beastly @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:55 AM) Can anyone get to it? it's probably the report that other GMs have told their scouts to keep scouting the Sox and ignore the extension talk. A couple pages ago someone posted that, I think it was ESPN reporters
-
QUOTE(whtsox13 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) A firend of mine said he heard it was 5 yrs/$85 mil. I guess that would make more sense
-
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) If this happens. wow. I mean what a sweat deal. If the sox are still planning on trading him. The asking price for him just went through the roof. i imagine if this deal is true, then MB and his agents put in either a strict no-trade clause or a ridiculously limited one, ie the Cardinals
-
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) Does Contrearas have no-trade protection? i'm sure this will be answered by the time it's posted, but I think it goes through the '07 season only
