QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) The game is in Cleveland. Or were you referring to the Cubs game? cubs game, just the idea that they are playing a team with a retractable roof and they're doing it in Chicago -

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) It's pouring here in Indy.. chances the game gets played today? Love that the Cubs are hosting the Brewers... way to go MLB! yeah, it's pouring here in Crystal Lake, I can't imagine that game has much of a chance of going, if it does the outfield will be a disaster, even with Bosard's new field -
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) Summer Catch. the scene with Jessica Biel getting out of the pool alone should basically take that out of being green... Major League is my favorite, I've seen that movie so many times that it's entertaining to watch the edited version on TV to see how they cover the bad language

Mayweather dodges Cotto on JR is Burning
SoxFan562004 replied to joejoesox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Says "Cotto needs to step up his fanbase, and his superstar status, before I can consider him a competitor" What a joke. After Cotto annihilates Gomez in two weeks, and possibly fights Williams and owns him, Mayweather will still be talking all this BS and continue to dodge cotto, blah! especially since Mayweather got a huge rub from Oscar. not saying he wasn't a big star before, but his bout with Oscar took him to another level -
QUOTE(heirdog @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) Sox roster: Anderson, Quentin in By Mark Gonzales, 2:03 p.m. TUCSON, Ariz. -- Brian Anderson and Carlos Quentin were informed that they made the White Sox's Opening Day roster. The final decision on a reliever will be made Saturday in Memphis. Ehren Wassermann pitched in a minor league game Thursday morning and then was scheduled to have a wisdom tooth pulled. Wassermann, who is battling Nick Masset for the final spot in the bullpen, was originally scheduled to pitch Thursday against Arizona. Masset remains the scheduled starter against the Diamondbacks. That was from a blog my the Trib's Mark Gonzalez good to see BA made it, he tore it up this spring and I hope he gets a legit shot in the regular season

swisher to lead off to start the season and play center
SoxFan562004 replied to chisox2334's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) I'd be thrilled if Swisher hits first all season. me too. Unless Owens has shown the ability to raise his OBP I like swisher leading off. This team is zombie like slow, having a fast leadoff hitter who has no commitment to getting on base more often shouldn't make any difference -
Is this an ideal situation now? no, but I'll give KW some credit, this is his Plan B,C, D, etc... he made a run at Torii Hunter and M. Cabrera. His big moves did not pan out, but instead of throwing his hands up and doing nothing he made other moves. The bullpen sucked out loud last year, so he addressed that with veterans. He brought a good player in Swisher who is affordable for awhile. Don't get me wrong, I'm annoyed that Fields is in AAA and that it seems Owens had an edge over BA all along, but I can't imagine a season starting and going "yeah, the roster is perfect"

QUOTE(shipps @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 08:43 AM) I hope everyone had a swell Easter.Mine consisted of spending 3 hours in the White fence farm restaurant waiting room waiting for a table.I was convinced that Jesus was chastising me for not going to church. corn fritters are worth it... I'm partial to the "Hoppy Easter" greeting myself

On cnn.com and this link from drudge... http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8...;show_article=1 interesting, I believe I heard that the DOJ was basically the approval they need and FCC should go along. Early talk had them doing away with a lot of the overhead, ie, you really only need one 60's channel so do away with one.

while we are complementing Avs, Knight, sweet one. Clone High was awesome. The "Black and Tan" part with the "say what" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. It's been an ongoing joke with my friends and I

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) I'm 36...going to have our first child...been working in the video production world for 15 years and if you asked me the same question, I STILL would say... "I have no idea." I'm only 29 and an attorney, but I definitely answer that question the same way

I think you should write, write, and then write some more... Now, to the more practical issue of how you will pay your bills, eat etc... that depends. If you need to get a decent paying job right off the bat, look around in bigger companies, ie insurance or bigger law firms. You can probably find a receptionist job or something in the mail room, that will be a steady check with possible health insurance and the like. You can also wait tables, that would help you meet a lot of interesting people to add fuel to your creative fire. Things like working at a bookstore or a movie theater cna give you more schedule flexability. Travel if you can. Do Europe on the cheap. Overall just have fun. I have a "career", but don't have a ton of bills or a family I'm responsible for so i take advantage of that. From September of last year until August of this year I will have gone to Vegas x3, Hawaii, Ireland and Portland, with weekend trips to my friends places on lakes mixed in. Enjoy yourself and don't spend a lot of time sweating the small stuff.

QUOTE(sf_soxfan @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) Looked like the right hand that's a little worrysome. What is it with Sox 3b and HBP? -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) To beat an offer of Gallagher, Cedeno and Murton? Jenks and Danks would both be too much to be a centerpiece. The cubs are offering two players that cant make their own team in the worst division in baseball and a future 5th starter. supposedly the problem was that wasn't enough. It appears it will take a stronger offer than that

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) And let's keep in mind...Ubaldo Jiminez is on the mound for Colorado. He has a moderately good arm. where was he hit? As long as it wasn't the hand he should be OK -

QUOTE(sf_soxfan @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) indeed -- it's amazing how Thome still has the bat speed He still had a 150 OPS+ in 432ABs last year. At his age, and recent history, the key thing is keeping him healthy. Having Swisher DH against LHP can give him a few extra days off -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) For us to beat the offer of any competing team, it'd have to include atleast one of: Jenks, Danks, Fields. How else could we possibly meet their demands without giving up 5/6 mediocre players? Wow. Just watching Ramirez in the first inning against Colorado, he battled for quite awhile before hitting a HR into LF. I love this guy's bat speed. The White Sox must love quite a bit of him, as well. It's ridiculous how he's able to turn on inside pitches. Flash, what offers have you heard for Roberts? I really haven't heard any other than the Cubs rumored one.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) Other things I would rather do with the 4.1 million dollars. I would of rather have taken some of that monopoly money and used it to spice our slot allocation for the 08 draft. I would of rather have used it for an international signing. Used it to go over on a few guys later in the draft to entice from going to college. Money might not be a lot in the long run, but with our organization 4 mill is still 4 mill. I see your point, but it's possible that the Sox just flat out realized they made a mistake in resigning Uribe and instead of compounding the mistake they are just cutting bait and bailing

QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) alexei ramirez doesnt get cheated on too many swings lol, that's true! He really reminds me of Soriano physically. I hope if he can be a similar player the Sox are smart enough not to bat him leadoff -
QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) But they would surely have enough time to simply move Lexi to 2B. It's ST, wouldn't be a problem to move him over and slot Ozuna in CF or LF with Swish to CF. And for a trade... I was thinking somewhere along the lines of.... Anderson/Owens/Quentin (one of them) along with Richar, Masset, and Broadway. Boy, KW would have to have a TON of faith in some of our A ball prospects to pull that one off. Anyone hear what the holdup with the Cubs and O's have been? I remember a couple of weeks ago hearing McPhail wasn't thrilled with the package and wanted to do some extended scounting on some of the prospects.
-
QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) Here is something I don't get. Uribe is DFA'd, Ramirez PRESUMABLY becomes our new 2B. Yet he is playing CF today?!?!?! Not sure about you guys but this SCREAMS Brian Roberts trade (or someone new at 2B). If this is to clear room for Sexi Lexi to play 2B, he would surely be getting as much time as he cane there, not Ozuna, and certainly you would think Richar would get time to play there as well. With Lexi in the outfield, this makes me think that they are still grooming him for the Utility role, and maybe they are on the fringes of acquiring a TRUE 2B, and not just plugging Richar into the spot. Anyone else see my logic? It makes sense, unless Uribe did something completely ridiculous in the last 24 hours, ie blow-up with KW or Ozzie, not show for something and the Sox are just willing to eat 4.5m to get him off the team. Look, I would love Brian Roberts, but I just can't come up with a package the Sox could offer, unless they really roll the dice for this year and offer Fields.
-
from a batting line-up situation that makes the most sense, but that might kill the defense. If everything stands as it is it looks like 1B- PK 2B- Alexi 3B- Crede SS- Cabrera LF- Swisher CF-Owens RF-Dye C- A.J. (Obviously not the batting order, just listing defense) I would like to see BA start in CF and Swisher in left and lead off with Swisher, unless Owens has taken ridiculous strides in raising his OBP. If it as it is above, then I hope BA is the 4th OF Unfortunatley if looks like Fields will be sent to AAA. As much as Roberts would be a perfect fit I just don't see that happening.
