  1. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) Anyone else think he's full of s*** despite being under oath??? I totally do, Lester Munson was on the Score this morning and felt that his attorney read the statement because it is so carefully worded that they couldn't take the risk of Sosa going off script at all.
  2. Mets need to make this move too, since Trachsel is having some back-injury issues. I want to say Ishii's WHIP is super high, and I think he gets saved by pitching in the Grand Canyon that is Dodgers Stadium, but Shea is a pithcher's park as well, so I think he can come close to his OK numbers for the Mets
  3. QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) My 4-16 Freshman team beat up on the Conference / Sectional Champ girls team. It was a lot of fun! I'm so glad to read stories like this. I hate when fans of womans basketball act like they could ever compete with men's/boy's teams. They are two different games, it doesn't make the woman's game any worse, it's just a fact What did you guys do? Just run them out of the gym or use physical play?
  4. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 03:52 AM) I just want all those baseball "experts" to tell me again how Prior's PERFECT mechanics guaranteed that he'd never have injury problems, especially to his throwing arm. How his PERFECT weight distribution and leg drive made an arm injury impossible. Please tell me that again, because it was SO interesting and informative last time. no s***... that's all we heard in Prior's 1st year. I heard someone mention that former MLB pitcher Mike Marshall actually came out in an article last year and said Prior's mechanics were actually poor. I think it was in the Daily Herald... anyone remember this? I think it actually predicted elbow problems for him
  5. I would rather be assistant to the traveling secretary
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 06:55 AM) They are fighting the subpeonas because they don't want their dirty laundry aired publically. They are hoping the whole mess just goes away. It ain't happenin' though. they're also fighting the subpoenas because Congress has also subpoenaed MLB's records for like the last 20 years or so. I haven't seen the actual subpoena, so I'm not 100% what records they actually requested, but I heard they want the results of all the drug testing from the last few years.
  7. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) He's been announcing a lot this year. He is going to attempt a comeback, he just wants to make sure he is 100% before doing so. He's been working out and playing a lot of pickup in North Carolina trying to get back in shape. Some of the nerve damage he received from the accident hurt his quickness, so that is one of the things that is taking a while to recover. With the settlement the Bulls gave him, one they didn't have to give, I figure the Bulls will get the first shot at him once he is ready to come back. Dave Leto actually ripped on Williams for being too hard on DePaul a few weeks back, I think Williams announced the first UAB game when they lost in OT
  8. Just an update... The MRI was negative, but he's flying back to Chicago for more tests and was scratched from his next start
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) What exactly are these congressmen trying to accomplish here? If the players do admit to steroids what are they going to do about it? They wont do s***. If someone says they didn't take steroids are they going to follow up with an investigation? No. So what's the f***ing point of this Committee Meeting? Attention, all these congressmen want is attention. The baseball players are a part of a bigger agenda. They will have people testify who have been effected by steroids, such as a dad of a teenager who killed himself and it seemed to be tied to steroids. I like that Congress is doing it, only if they ask the right questions. Most of these players can honestly say no to "Did you ever do steroids?" since technically I think most did HGH. This is something that needs attention brought to it, and have these guys who made millions answer under oath Don't forget, baseball has an anti-trust exemption that Congress can always pull if they don't satisfy them
  10. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) Call me crazy, but isn't having an accurate throwing arm important to an outfielder? This is all mental with Ankiel, he probably will have a strong/accurate arm from the OF
  11. Wood is a great hyped up name, and you can even throw some filthy stats out there like his K/9, however he's injury prone and IMO he's never learned how to "pitch" He lives off the hype of his phenomenal 1st year, however he's never won more than 14 games in a season. I know an argument is that the bull-pen has blown a lot of his games. However that's where it shows he's never learned how to pitch. I think a lot of those games were blown by the bullpen because Wood tends to throw 100+ pitches by the 6th inning. That means you're going to you're 3rd and 4th arms out of the bullpen, not your set-up and closer. It will be interesting to see how this turns out... I hate the Cubs, but I don't want to see people get injured
  12. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) It was funny, even his own team was like: 'uh Dude, you don't wanna fight that guy, he's 21-0'. in boxing records can be really misleading. There's a possibility the 21-0 guy only fought first timers or 40 year olds while the guy who was 10-2 was fighting prime fighters. It seemed to me that the 21-0 guy was not prepared mentally to fight, he wasn't nearly aggressive enough... sometimes fighters are thrown off by something in their opponents style, it seems like that's a possiblity too...
  13. I think the Cardinals had to make an effort to end the side show too. Every pitch this guy threw was being watched, and may have started to distract the team. Him converting to OF will get attention right away, but die down somewhat...
  14. The foot issue probably won't be enough for him to avoid the subpoena, hopefully the swelling is just a side-effect and won't cause damage.... I hope Frank gives them hell!!!
  15. I'm a big boxing fan and I enjoyed the show. I also like MMA, and Spike has a show called "The Ultimate Fighter" which is guys going for a UFC contract... that's very good as well
  16. QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 02:54 AM) I thought Robin was pretty soft spoken. He'll need to open it up if he wants to be able to be an analyst. Those guys are required to talk all the time. Didn't Hawk get on DJ one game for not talking enough? Robin has been on Dan Patrick's radio show a few times. judging by that he should be OK. He shows a lot of personality and a good sense of humor.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 7, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) Hi guys. I've had a pretty high fever since Friday night (102)--I've been taking acetomphine (about 1000mg per dose), which is supposed to be a fever reducer, but it hasn't been able to touch it. I'm definitely in need of something to take my fever down, anyone have any ideas? well, if it goes on for any longer I would seriously consider going to the doctor ASAP
  18. QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 7, 2005 -> 01:24 AM) My fav was, "I loovvveee cotton candy". that one was classic because an intern got Hawk and DJ some cotton candy and there was a shot of Hawk eating it with this huge grin on his face... it was classic
  19. My favorite Barry line was a few months ago when someone asked him a tough question he said "I don't have to answer that, I'm 40 years old." His interviews are right up their on the denial scale with Whitney Houston's interview when she basically had a breakdown on TV with quotes like "How can you ask me that, I'm a mother".... of course neither will answer the questions. I hope Congress sends him a subpoena because this guy will crack under that pressure
  20. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/05/sports/b...5&partner=MYWAY looks like Giambi and friends better get familiar with the 5th Amendment!!
  21. Yeah, Lossman was out last year with a broken leg, so like Grossman nobody really knows how healthy he will be. With their defense and the run they made at the end of last year, I think this is a solid move by the Bills
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) No. The leadoff hitter is THE most important factor in a team's overall success. If you can have a guy that gets on at a .400 clip, you will have a very solid offense. If your leadoff hitters gets on at a .300 clip, your offense will not be nearly as good. You can look across the league, and some of the better offenses(or some of the more underrated offenses) have very solid leadoff hitters. The second most important factor in a team's overall success is the #2 hitter...if he can do the same as the leadoff hitter, you will have a lot of guys on base for the big hitters in the middle of the lineup. And that is one of the reasons I think, and many think, that Oakland will be way better then people give them credit for. They have a .400 OBP guy and a .370 OBP guy at the top of their order, so they will be getting on base like crazy, and when you have runners on base, you will score runs. Some have thought that they had one of the worst offseasons in the majors, and I am thinking the exact opposite. That's a little off subject, but it pertains to the point anyways. I will say however that when done properly, stealing bases, or just the general idea of stealing bases, will get in a pitcher's head and will hurt him down the road, while helping the offense. I think it is useful, but that it is not necessarily important. I agree with the leadoff hitter theory. That's why I'm excited for the Sox season if Pods and Iguchi can come through. Look at the Marlins 2 years ago, yeah Beckett and the staff were awesome, but I think Castillo and Pierree were the keys. You had teams like the Cubs and Yankees who could only pound the ball, but the Marlins were able to manufacture runs and cause chaos with average defenses.
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) Rooney says it's going to be tough for Jamie Burke, even though he's done everything they've asked him to do. If Gload sucks ass during ST do the Sox just stick with him or try another option?
  24. FWIW A-Row was on with Carm and Silvy this morning and he said he talks to Frank a lot, and Frank is in good shape.... take it with a grain of salt since it's from a teammate/friend, but he sounded positive
  25. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) Garland = 46 wins at age 24 Sabathia = 54 wins at age 23 Gooden = 100 wins at age 24 Avery = 58 wins at age 24 God damn Gooden was awesome!!
