Levine says there's a lot of interest in Marte

Or are we not "under the radar" this year? -
does it take too long to load on your computer?

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) I disagree about Hendry. I think he is an excellent GM. You can't dismiss the Lee/Ramirez pickups. Those are ginormous acquisitions. I hate the Cubs but he's pretty good <{POST_SNAPBACK}> how much credit do you give Brian Cashman for getting A-Rod? Last time I checked, the Cubs farm system still hasn't produced a servicable postion player. That dates back to Grace's days.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) Can you please expand on this theory that Dye and Abreu are close to having the same production? I would also like to call in career numbers and trends as well, because as we all know, those are a factor. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly. :rolly If ownership is willing to pay for Abreu, who cares how much he is making?

LOL. Which Sox fan would have guess 7 years ago that in 2005 Bobby Howry and Scott Eyre would be two of the most sought after free agents on the market? Eyre has had one great year, and I can't believe the commitment starts with 3 years.

QUOTE(SoxRock05 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Can someone tell me the name of the pirates of the carabian song and where i can find it....or lead me to a thread with the answer.....you can delete thread after...thank you.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I used illegal software to download "he's a pirate" from a Johnny Depp movie.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) Hendry's trademark is locating trading partners who, for whatever reason, are desperate to unload talent--mostly due to impending salary hikes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You forgot trading players when their values are at their lowest point. Hundley, Hawkins, Sosa, Cruz and now probably Patterson.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Hendry doesn't give up talent, he'll end up fleecing the Marlins for Pierre, it's what he does. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What about Juan Cruz?

Hell, Konerko's deal may average 13 million per (IMO,) but I don't think he's going to earn exactly the same amount each season, so with that lineup the payroll could be $2-3 million less. EDIT: Scratch Timo off there and substitute anderson. That's another $660,000 saved (well, another $1 million from your total since you have them both listed.) Don't forget Carl's and Frank's buyouts ($4 million.)

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Just say no to Matt "Fat Ass" LeCroy <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How did you ever come up with a nickname like that?

What does the "G" stand for in the sub-title?

I thought ID had nothing to do with God. :rolly:

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Bobby Abreu>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Brian GilesCompair Giles and Abreu is not fair to Abreu... Bobby is a five tool player, Giles is on the downside of his carrer, Abreu would hit perfectly in the 3 hole for the Sox with his combination of Speed and power <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's ridiculous. Bobby' SLG% was 70 points less from 2004, didn't bat .300, and his OBP was below his career average. I suppose he's on the "downside" of his career too?

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) Before you get ripped, Rowand doesn't have same value as Wells, not even close in my opinion. Vernon also plays gold glove defense while putting up around 30 100 each season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wells has had one 30-100 season (2003) and the only time he was close was 2002 23 homers and exactly 100 RBI's while posting an OBP of .305. His 2005 season season was very comparable to Corey Patterson's 2004 season. It's too bad Wade is out as GM. We could've built a package around Marte and Vizcaino.

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Meh, looks to me like Willis is being penalized for being on a team that was weaker this year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or maybe because Carpenter was a better pitcher. He pitched more innings than Willies yet gave up less hits, lees walks, and 43 more K's. A 21-5 record looks better than a 22-10 record in my opinion.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) How many teams do you think would be willing to claim him when he is demanding $11 or $12 mil? My guess is not very many. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I really believe with their huge Japanese following, and need for a left handed power bat, Seattl would claim him in a second. The Red Sox would probably claimed him just for the f*** of it too.

I voted Contreras just because he carried the team in Sept.

QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) What's with the girlfriend? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We're talking about Willie Harris and MLB players. Do you really think he was committed to that woman? At that point I just remembered Steff laughing at someone's comment of Willie Harris and his girlfriend at Soxfest.

I met Carl Everett and Willie Harris in the San Diego Mall over the summer. My friend and I were eating at a grill food place, and he said "there's a guy who looks like Carl Everett over on the concourse." I turn around and look, but Carl went behind a post so I looked over at the counter and saw a much samller guy with his girlfriend and a bag of cinnabons. I told my friend, "that guy doesn't look Carl. He looks more like Willie Harris." It took about two seconds to put it all together and my friend screamed "WILLIE!" He looked over and I told how we traveled to see them sweep, and I asked about getting a picture, and I he kinda said something under his breath and left. A couple of minutes later Carl, Wille, and Willie's girlfriend came back to the place and decided to eat there. We were already done with our meal so we decided to kill some more time by sitting around waiting to see what would happen. Carl sat down at a table behind us facing me and he was sitting in his blue suit all relaxed, so I decided to ask him "what's going on Carl?" He was really cool and like "eh nothing much man." I told him how we travelled over 2000 miles to see the Sox sweep the Pads, and he smilied. Then he asked where I was from, I told him Joliet, "we have a couple of casinos." "Oh I don't gamble," he responded. Our friend in the Marine corps (we were visiting him) called us during the time and didn't believe us when we told him who was sitting by us in the restarurant. (It was only us 5.) I told him I'll try to get a pic to prove it. So when Willie and Carl got their food, I figured that'd be the best time to leave and ask for a picture. I told Carl and Willie that our buddy didn't believe they were here, and ask if I could get a picture of the two. "Who's going to take the picture" Willie asked (similar to Hawk's "where's he going to play?" line.) I told them I was just going to take a picture of both of them, but Willie told me I had to be in the picture and Carl in his deep voice chimed in with "that's the whole point of a picture!" So I asked Willie if he would mind taking a picture of Carl and I. Carl got up and stuck his middle finger up in my face and yelled "take the picture!" Willie waited for us to settle down and took the pic. I thanked them and asked if the were in the lineup tonight (saturday) and they both said "don't know yet" at the same time. It was really cool.

My dad called me today asking me what my shoe size I wear. I don't know if he got the order though.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Yeah I have. I'm a Freshmen by 2 credit hours and that's because I withdrew from a class last year. That's a long story short. And I plan on staying in Chicago. That's my preference. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Which course was it?
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Well I don't have the passion for it. For a major like that(or any practical major) you have to have a passion for it, else you won't get through school and if you do, you'll end up hating your job. If I hate my job, I can't perform up to my highest level. I mean, I'm part of the future of our country, I'd hate to be somebody who doesn't give 100% in what I'm contributing to this world. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you're only a freshman, you've probably only taken classes that all engineering freshmen take (physics, calc, chemistry.) It could be worse. You could have your degree with no experience and no job lined up like me.

Mark Shapiro, NOT Kenny Williams, Exec of the Year
santo=dorf replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like how the Sox were able to turn Alex Escobar into Jerry Owens, and the best Shapiro could do with him is let him get claimed off of waivers. -
What don't you like about ME? I ask because I'm graduating with a degree in that this semester.
