  1. I'm suprised there isn't a thread yet. I picked the Steelers to win the Super Bowl before the playoffs began so I'm obviously sticking with them tonight. About three hours until gametime.
  2. I'd like to rejoin league one again this year.
  3. Yeah I'm pretty sure it is just about impossible to add 20 mph to a fastball let alone 15 to a breaking ball. It's much easier to lose the velocity than gain it. Maybe you can try a different position? Second basemen don't need much of an arm and if you're a big efty try first base.
  4. At Culvers I had to pay $45 for my SHOES. They made me wear their f***ing shoes. I was pissed off, and they took the money out of my paycheck, so I couldn't just let my parents buy them. I quit/got fired from that job after three weeks because they wouldn't let me call off work to go to a Sox game. They told me if I went to the game, I would be fired, so technically it was quitting and getting fired. It turned out to be a great decision because Buehrle got a W and the Sox beat the Orioles in a game that meant something last May. It's always a cool story to tell people that you got fired from your job for the sake of the White Sox.
  5. To wrap things up, I will now give my closing statements. Do I think the government should spend extra money coming from tax dollars on funding the arts? No. I agree with my opponent that the government wastes too much money on programs and projects that are not needed, as I stated in my opening speech with the example of "The Bridge to Nowhere" in Alaska. Funding the arts would be yet another one of these pork projects. Instead, we should use the money we would have used on the pork projects and fund programs and projects that will help everyone in the nation. My example of this would be to improve the roadways because doing this improves the roads, reduces stress, and creates jobs in construction and production for many Americans. I am not saying that our nation should enforce more taxes upon its people, I am giving an alternative plan to what is currently being needlessly done. Thank you.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) cubs are starting to look like a winner....if it goes redsox, whitesox, cubs....then i am going to wonder if the fix was in? They actually blew their chance in '03. That was their shot, but they lost it.
  7. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 03:04 AM) I never heard anyone complain about the New Jersey Devils or Duke Blue Devils. However, the name Devil Rays sounds terrible, the sound of Tampa Bay Rays sound bad also. If it were me, I would hold a contest and let the fans choose a new name. What fans?
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) Anyone with experience or education in psychology willing to guess what it could mean if a girl writes her own name consistently through a notebook? I'm just interested because I used an excuse of copying notes to intitate conversation with a girl I'm interested in. When I open up her notebook, literally every page held several elaborate signatures of her own name. Both large and small. IMO, It was strange someone would devote so much time to writing their own name with swirls and bows and shaded accents. I've seen doodles done in the name of boredom, but not 10+ signatures though several pages. I realize anything I could extract from this likely won't amount to much. I'm wondering whether anyone could read this post and say, "Oh--this girl probably has a heightened sense of self esteem." Or, "young kids often do this, and their reason is....." Usually lesbians write their names a lot in notebooks.
  9. QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) 4.5 this sem. Bastard. It's bulls*** that my school makes me take Foreign Policy and Physics which don't offer honors classes for the graduation required courses. Getting an A in Foreign Policy actually lowered my GPA.
  10. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) Society > Individual? We shouldn't get any money back? Government should keep our paycheck and take care of roads, etc and then give us what we need? Isn't that Communism? I don't want to put words in your mouth, but it sounds like that's what you're advocating. Could you elaborate? Am I communist? Whattt? Definitely not. What I am saying is that I believe in the philosophy of Jeremy Bentham that teaches how we must do what benefits society more than it does the individual. To further elaborate, I am a believer in John Maynard Keynes---Keynesian Economics---which says that government spending will stimulate an economy. This was the tactic that FDR used in the 1930's to help get America out of the Great Depression. If Keynesian Economics helped get us out of the greatest economic disaster in our nation's history, then it must be pretty damn good. I did not say we shouldn't get any money back. We are debating whether the government should fund the arts or not, and I say no the arts do not need to be funded, and instead we should use the money for government spending to stimulate the economy. And yes, I still believe that society > individual. Without a stable society, the individual would not exist.
  11. 2nd ranked Valpo (my school) hosts 8th ranked Munster Saturday night at 7:30. It's going to be a tune up game for getting ready for Lawerance North and Greg Oden at the state finals.
  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) As if the story needed to get any worse. . . Make it eight deaths now. The grandfather of all these kids was, understandably, devastated by this tragedy, and just had a heart attack and died. No joke. I'm sitting here watching the local news report it. Wow, that is awful. That reminds me of this fall. At my grandpa's wake services, I was visiting with my cousins grandpa. He was a really nice old veteran. One hour after he left, my aunt got a phonecall. Her father had just died in a tragic drowning accident back at his assisted living home. Two months later, we were at our annual family christmas eve celebration. That day, another one of my aunts father's passed away tragically choking to death. It was a crazy three months as far as deaths in the family goes. Really, really shocking.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) What kind of cookie would you like? Sugar or chocolate chip? The ones with M&M's instead of chocolate chips, please.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) Yup. All classes are honors classes or AP classes. That's bulls***. I would have a 4.3 at your school.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) Someone once told me that no school in Illinois works on a 5 point scale. It made me laugh because my school does and I know about another 4 that do to. Sidenote: I can't believe the CPS shut Crane HS down...those were the funnest baseball games in the history of the universe. Do you get the 5 point scale all four years?
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) Not a 4.18, god no. Well it should have been a 4.28 Three of my six classes are on a 5 points scale, so it is inflated. It sucks though because my first four semesters of high school I didn't get honors points for being in honors classes. Junior and senior year we get the extra point, so it balances things out..
  17. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) I had a pretty "bad" semester during my sophomore year of high school which really did wonders for me in the long term. The knowledge that basically all my friends had done better than me in one particular class really became a source of motivation for the rest of my academic career. This doesn't work for everybody, but most anyone can find some sense of pride in doing well in at least one or two classes. I just hope that when you say "temporary", you are already weaning her off the Juggernaut Prep plan. I completely agree with what you are saying. This past semester, I had a 4.18 and I was pissed off at myself because I did awful on my German final and ended up getting a B+ for the class after getting A's both 9 weeks. It was embarassing for me because the teacher said in front of the class "you really disappointed me on your final" and one of my good friends aced it and he was bragging about it. That pissed me off.
  18. Well, I have a rubber tote with a bunch of random knick-knacks. Well done sir, well done.
  19. Oh yeah, now I remember why I never read your abnormally long posts.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) ewww
  21. Almost done with "Night". It's a depressing but great book about the Concentration Camps. Short read, very interesting and informative memoir. Started "Moneyball" finally. Not far into it at all, and probably won't finish it for a long time because I have to read "1984" and "Crime and Punishment" for school in the next month.
