*Official* College Basketball Thread
Spiff replied to Heads22's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) Actually, if you ever watched a college basketball game or ever heard anyone talk about JJ Redick, you would have learned or seen that he has become one of the best players in the country at driving to the basket and drawing fouls. Whe he gets to the line, it's automatic. You would have also learned that he has improved his defense dramatically, if you saw the UNC game, you saw that, just ask Rashad McCants. With a statement like yours above, it shows just how little you know about college basketball, so before you make remarks, think. Should have known, coming from a Illinois fan. By the way, who was the last team to beat Illinois? Just a question. You're right about Redick, he's drastically improved his offensive game in the last year or so. He's more than just a spot-up shooter. Sometimes I really wonder if the statements some people make here involve any actual observation, or just regurgitated general opinion. -
Colts ranked top franchise for fans

The Pistons are 19th in Stadium Experience, does getting your ass kicked help or hurt? After all, the players are pretty accesible. -
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 01:16 AM) I'm sure you realize that, but you're just looking for any possible reason to defend a Boston team/player. I'm looking for any possible reason to shut you people the hell up. If I bring up stats, you say he's not a winner. If I say I like his style, you just throw stats out there. There's no winning.

24 and 10 in his first game What a terrrrrrrible trade, huh.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) Haha, whatever you want to believe. You can ask anyone on any board and they will tell you either tell you something similar to the quote hammer had or what i said. You may find this hard to believe, but this place isn't the be-all, end-all. Especially considering that 0 of the people here have seen Toine play 1/10 as much as I have. Now go find something from your bible (aka rotoworld) to say otherwise.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) About the 4.... Ain't that strictly Raef and Big Al? I can't see Walker getting any minutes there. Also, Davis can't take any minutes away from Pierce or Allen. Toine will play more than Al. Raef can play center on occasion (Blount sucks). Davis continues to come off the bench at the 3. No big problems.

20-9-4 3 time all star the end
-
Oh whoops I didn't mean to call DBAH0 a dumbass, I thought he got it from some other site. Anyway this isn't a big deal as far as Ricky is concerned. Antoine can play either the 3 or the 4.
-
There's so many things I could say, but I'll leave it at... I'll take career stats of 20-9-4 per game any day.

"Boston - Doc Rivers, your locker room bickering just up about 95%. Ricky Davis can't be happy about this. Tell me this, how are they going to find shots for players not named Paul Pierce or Antoine Walker. Jim O'Brien almost made it work, but quit trying. Unless they can get Gary Payton back (he could be headed to Minny or Seattle), the Celtics are going to get owned at the PG position in the playoffs. Rivers is a great motivator, but I don't think he's a good enough X's and O's coach to make this work." Someone tell this dumbass that Jiri Welsch also got traded, and Ricky was coming off of the bench to begin with. Also, I'm glad Antoine's back, and if it's only short-term that's OK too because his contract (14.6 mill) expires after this year. This isn't a year that Boston is going to make a run at a title anyway. If Payton doesn't re-sign, then Banks and West get to show what they can do. I'm not a huge fan of Ainge, but this could turn out a lot better than people think.

On Writing is really solid. It helps you cut through all the bulls*** that you think you have to write. I like his white rabbit example, and his railing against adverbs. Right now I'm reading "Living on Luck", a collection of letters that Bukowski wrote in the 60's and 70's. It's pretty solid.

Who does Ben Gordon remind you of?
Spiff replied to rangercal's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(rangercal @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Stamina and speed are good reasons not to compare ben to AI, yet. But it can be fixed with better conditioning. ben tryies to bench press out the gym. as far as ball handler. ben is among the leagues elite. not one of the best of all time. he will continue to improve as his career goes on. he can get very close to AI's handling skills. But you did compare his speed to Iverson. Go back and look. Among the league's elite at handling the ball? Let's not get carried away. -
He's right, but he's just as boring.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) AI's ball handling, speed , moves. Uh, no. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) I'm not going to try to turn this into a big argument, but Lebron had 2 back to back games going into the break. He also had to play in the rookie game AND in the all star game. That's a lot of basketball in a short amount of time. And he has a high-ankle sprain.

Cut down on the stick work, call the clutching and grabbing, reduce the size of the futon-goalies. That's all you have to do. f*** america for not seeing what a beautiful game this is, and can be. If I hear one more [hockey exists?] joke, I'm gonna slug the person.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 13, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) You know, the 482nd one you made that will collapse in less then 2 weeks. OWNED

It's not just women that are annoying about the Super Bowl, it's everyone who doesn't know or give a s*** about sports (nothing wrong with that) and then turn around and become head cheerleader. I guess the Super Bowl has been marketed so much that it's become like New Year's Eve or the Fourth of July. Everyone pays attention, and the giddiest people (not usually sports fans) get all excited.
