I think they are going to spend the money. Maybe not up to luxury tax as I presume they want some wiggle room but TLR has JR ear and he wants to win it all one more time.

Sox are asking a lot for Kimbrel. They want to move him but don’t expect them to just give him away ((based upon what I heard they were asking). With that said - will be interesting if they don’t get what they want what they will do cause I think we will see Kimbrel move closely followed/aligned with a sizeable free agent signing.

The player I was referring to who the club was interested but couldn’t agree on was Kimbrel. Sox and the other team had pretty big difference in value (the Kimbrel bit was when I talked to him in person this morning…but I won’t / can’t mention other team… But the recent post I made with the on fire quote was from a text chain I have going on with him (so is fresh).

I didn’t say anything was done - he just said they are reportedly close on a few things but wouldn’t tell me who (but he did say they are one of most active teams in MLB right now). Might be because it has to do with his club (if it did that would be great but last I heard his club and Sox didn’t align on asking price for one of Sox players).

So I just got a text from a buddy of mine who is very connected (to MLB not necessarily Sox). Said Sox are on fire right now and close on a couple sizeable moves.

Yep - he may not be the upside you want from a guy picked that high - but dude can hit and for a high average. But Jack thinks he’s garbage…smh.

Does it matter at this point? Presume MLB is going way of other leagues and things are just going to be more open? Side note - I don’t love all the money they spend on the pen, but Kelly is a good reliever and has tons of experience on good ball clubs. I also presume LaRussa is going to get JR to spend so I am more confident now they make one big signing.

I am just saying - if you could get something real good maybe it isn’t a bad thing In terms of this year. Don’t think Sox will do it and I love Hendricks.

As long as they spend / make some good moves between now and start of season it doesn’t matter but if they go cheap - than they really have managed some of these moves really bad. Like 5.5 for Harrison is just not a good use of money for a team that plays things tight. I would rather use Burger and spend that extra money to get Bryant (and whatever scrub contract they will keep giving over the life of that Bryant deal).

Yeah - I don’t hate the move. But I’d rather just save the money. They better upgrade somewhere cause they are spending a lot of money on Mediocrity.

I want my Kimbrel for Lux deal that I razz my Dodger buddies about all the time.

Why is Landry off the market? I assume Browns are moving him or cutting him. Michael Thomas is probably on market as is Metcalf, both would be great...but I think both of them will cost more than Cooper (since Cowboys had very little to no leverage). The nice thing about Cooper is you don't have to play the FA game and you can keep him 1 or 3 years and whenever you are done you cut him with zero impact to your cap.

Man. I was a big fan of getting Cooper. He isn't the best and might be slightly overpaid, but you acquire him and you basically can go year by year with him and cut him at any point with zero rammifications. I know Bears are thin on draft capital but knowing that if I were in charge I'd still have at least a few more picks coming my way (i.e, from a Quinn trade) I would have pulled the trigger on this deal and than still taken another wideout with one of the 2nd round picks. But oh well - we'll see what Poles can do.

I would have liked him at that price. I’ll take elite d combo up the middle and it’s a nice depth move if Tim goes down too.

Check that - 35 to 36M now with ability to get it up to 40M. Next year they are now a little more than 140M under the cap.

I think they don’t know what they are doing. I don’t think the White Sox adequately know how to value the free agent marketplace. I think they got caught with their pants down in their valuations and offseason plans going back to start of free agency. They can absolutely overcome it and have plenty of time to make this team better - but right now this is a worse team than it was last year in my opinion. Note: It is still a very good team though.

Yeah - I think they are over 40M in cap space now and could get as high as 45 depending on how they handle Danny T. My presumption is they will use that cap space on an olineman and wideout (I think they trade for a wideout vs fa market).

I prefer him vs the boards picks of Comforto and Castellanos.

That was the point. Rodon over Kimbrel was the smarter play all day. If they just wanted flexibility do neither. Plus Rodon at 1yr 18M if he did accept is just fine of a risk for a team that could manage his innings and certainly benefit greatly if he was healthy (which I believe he is).
