  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) The one way I would think your suggestion would make sense is if we could also get a quality left handed hitting leadoff hitter for left field from somewhere. Because with Gload instead of Thome, we lose the ability to have a lefty bat that the other team has to plan around. You don't bring in a Loogy to face Ross Gload unless the situation demands it...you bring one in to face Thome any time the game is close. That would be somewhat of a weakness in our lineup if we followed that suggestion. Then again...toss Thome to anaheim for Santana, toss Santana to Tampa for Crawford, and bang. Anaheim is the one team that I think would give up an arm and a leg for Thome. Its a very good fit and they have prospects and pitching that could help us. In fact, we could likely swing a deal that nets the Sox Figgins/Santana and a prospect. I think thats a deal you strongly consider if you did acquire an Alex Rodriguez because you are getting low salary players in return that can help you (Santana/Figgs/Prospect) while getting Arod in here and still as a net result are shedding payroll (since a guy like Garcia is being moved for Arod along with fields). Of course these are quite a few moves to make, but thats never scared Kenny off before. It could also give the Sox enough chips to swing a deal for Brian Roberts who would move into a place like LF. Of course that wouldn't be a protypical OF, but we would have power at 1st (PK), SS (AROD), RF (Dye), 3B (Crede), 2B (Iguchi). And you now just need to find a DH with Gload maybe getting some time there or using a few chips to find a all bat type guy that just goes into that spot. I do agree the one concern is that lack of a lefty in the middle of the lineup, but throw AJ in at 6 or so and have a lefty in the 1/2 spots and you should be able to survive if need be. I just say Thome because he's older and less likely to hold up over the next 2 years as opposed to Paulie.
  2. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Do you project Anderson as anything more than a reserve outfielder having seen him perform this season or what? I can't consider anyone that is in the top 4 at his position defensively a reserve outfielder (not when you have the speed and power potential of Anderson). In the right system I think you play him regardless. I think the Sox have that but the problem is Ozzie really handled things awfully. Now if we get a good offer and are able to get another CF that fits in at the top of the order, well than thats another story. If Anderson is going to be used as a reserve outfielder, just trade him now because he has more value than that of a reserve outfielder (on the trade market). So basically put, if I'm KW I'd either force Ozzie to use BA or make a move (unless Ozzie tells Kenny that BA will be an integral part of next years team). As far as where BA may fall, if he can do a bit to his swing I could see him being Torri Hunter (defensively and offensively). However, I don't see him getting better than that offensively (and I know some here feel Hunter is an incredibly over-rated offensive player). BA could be far worse than that too, hitting in the low to mid .200's with high strikeout totals.
  3. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) I agree it might be wise to trade Thome or Konerko for that matter considering the amount of money they are making and the years left on their respective deals, but like dorf, I just think its extremely unlikely that Thome or Konerko are in another uniform in 2009 or 2010 no less 2007. I don't disagree (well in regards to Konerko LT) but I could see Thome moved. I just don't think it will be this off-season. Thome may be out of baseball in 09 and probably will be in 2010.
  4. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) I never understood how so many people on Sox Talk justified his terrible season by saying he played better in the last month or two of the season. Since when does only 25% of the season count? When it comes ot a rookie you look at the progress a player makes. You can throw out a rookie pitchers first few starts and see if he's progressively getting better. Its a sign of progress and growth being made. If we are talking about a veteran than ya, its pointless to throw later stats out, but with young players looking at stats like most Sox fans do about Anderson makes a lot of sense (because he should get better and well he did get better as the season went on). Still his stats over the final couple months make him look better offensively than he really was. I've never thought much of Anderon's swing and I still don't. However, his defense, speed and power potential may still make him valuable. But if a team wanted to give us something worthwhile I'd do it.
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) Joe Crede is extremely overrated on these boards, good point s=d. Yet, if I'm trading for Arod, I'm doing so with the intent of moving him back to SS and sending Juan Uribe elsewhere. If we get Arod, than we are going to need to cut payroll somewhere and moving someone like Thome makes more sense than someone like Crede. Plus I think now is the perfect time to move Thome because I see him getting progressively worse during the remaining years of the contract. His trade value is far higher this year than it was last year (when we acquired him) and I think this off-season would be the perfect time to take complete advantage of that. Oh and Gload could play 130 games a season on a winning team, especially one like the Sox (with good bats most of the way around the lineup).
  6. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) Goldy's Bears Wallpaper from TalkBears.
  7. Google is one of the best ran internet companies around and its because they actually know what the end users (us) want. They'll do a great job with Youtube. That said I don't know if it was worth what they paid for it. I know Mark Cuban thinks youtube isn't worth what Google paid.
  8. The Twins rotation without Liriano is pretty bleh. Yes Santana is amazing but they are going to be lacking everywhere else. The Twins could take a few serious steps back next year especially since they had a ton of fluke seasons.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Resident BA mancrush here.... I'll agree, you do have to listen to what the Marlins have to offer, but this guy is still our starting CF for the forseeable future. Why else would KW have traded away Jeremy Reed, Chris Young and the llike? Must see something he likes in the kid. If we traded away Chris Young becuase Kw thought Anderson was better, well than Kenny was stupid. I can imagine the reason it was Young and not Anderson was simply because Anderson was more ready to contribute this season. However, the White Sox and most of the fans here grossly over-estimated Anderon's offensive abilities while a lot of us also grossly underestimated his defensive abilities at the start of the season. The guy was a premiere defensive CF, but he was not a good hitter (even later in the year after making strides, he wasn't near as good as his late season numbers would indicate; although it was nice for him to make strides and there was on reason for him to be benched as often as he was). I should add, if we get good value I'm all for moving Anderson because I think he's far less of a sure thing than a guy like Ryan Sweeney. So if the Sox plan on adding a speedy CF to leadoff, than I'd move Anderson for a package that gives the Sox some serious chips (if that package is out there) and I'd imagine the Marlins could offer up some young players that we'd have interest in.
  10. I'd add Arod using a pitcher and Josh Fields, but than I'd also go ahead and swing a deal that moved Thome or Konerko out of Chicago because financially we'd need to clear some stuff up, imo.
  11. Logan, not Haeger, will likely be the in-house addition to the pen. He has pretty darn good stuff and should be a very nice option. He would also be the guy who would replace Cotts if Neal was moved. As far as the Haeger comparison to that of Shields/Wakefield, well that is far from what Haeger would be. He'd be the guy that came in games when we were up big or down big and we just needed innings eaten. The best place for Haeg is in AAA where he waits if one of our guys goes down, imo. Unless of course he has an amazing spring or Logan has an awful one.
  12. Our system blows. It doesn't get much worse than what we have to be completely honest. We have an extremely overrated top 3rd base prospect and Ryan Sweeney. Oh we also have a ton of 4A guys that really aren't that good of prospects. Hate to tell it like it is, but we got s*** to be proud of in our system. We have some raw talents down in the lower levels, but I haven't seen many of those raw talents pan out. Oh and I have nothing against McCulloch and Broadway, both are good looking prospects. They just aren't great looking prospects.
  13. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 7, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) Albert Young just got Wally Pip'd. 256 rushing yards early in the 4th quarter. Damn Simms had some nice runs against the Buckeyes and more so far today. Tate is looking a lot better, but than again Purdue is not a good team (despite a 4-1 record). However, you got to like the all around offensive domination put on by the Hawkeyes thus far. ND gets a TD on the opening drive, not that I expect this to be a game. Auburn down a decent chunk to Arkansas. Maybe the most over-rated team in the country will lose and drop out of the #2 spot.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) To be honest, it looks horrible to me. I think I'm finally going to see jackass tonight, that or get drunk or both. Jackass was ridiculously good. Only movie I've seen in a while and it didn't let down at all. I liked the first one and this one was ridiculously better.
  15. Rally Crede and Joe Crede are both my hero's.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 06:52 AM) Alex Rodriguez saids "hi" One difference, he was a gold glove SS who moved to 3rd base, not the other way around so to speak. That said I don't think Figgins is near as bad as some of you say in the infield defensively. However, we have Joe Crede and Juan Uribe at 3rd and SS and there isn't any other infield that is better at those two spots defensively. Figgins needs to be given an everday position. He's not that great in CF, but I think thats simply because of a lack of experience. I really think he could be an above avg CF and a stellar left fielder and I do think he'd be an exceptional fit. Was talking to a couple big time Angel fans and it seems like they are thinking he'll get dealt. Doesn't mean he will, but its always interested to hear when fans say a guy could get moved because if fans are willing to move them than mgmt may be willing to move them as well.
  17. QUOTE(Winning Ugly @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Had to start one for my "other" team. As many of you know, I adopted the Padres as my NL team in 1993 after moving from Chicago to SD to join the Marines. Went to over 50 Padres home game from 93-2004 before moving to Phoenix. Anyways, how can any Sox fan not root for the Pads? Look at their team. It is built almost exactly how the Sox was built last year to make the playoffs. Speed at the top of the order with Roberts (Podsednik). A little pop in the middle with Giles, Piazza and Gonzalez (Dye, Konerko, Crede). A new catcher taking on a yound and old staff in Piazza (AJ). A starting staff that's arguably the best in the playoffs, 4-deep in Peavy, Young, Hensley and Wells. The BEST bullpen in the MLB with the greatest closer of all time. Defense, defense, defense. Roberts and Cameron flying all over the OF like Pods and Rowand. A good DP combo in Greene and Barfield (like Uribe and Iguchi). Good bats off the bench (Bellhorn, Walker, Bard, Klesko, Blum...remember him?) Finally, proof you CAN go out there and with without being in the top 10 in payrolls for the year. GO PADS!!!!!!

    I CANT FREAKING WAIT
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) Straight up? I'm not sure the Sox have anything that would make that deal work. The Halos have a ton of young talent already, so they're probably not going to be in the market to trade Figgins to get younger. But at the same time, the guys the White Sox have who the Halos might want on their big league team are way too valuable to be traded for Figgins straight up. They need a bat desperately, so the likely options would be Crede, Thome, Dye...all of whom are worth significantly more than Chone Figgins. The only guys who I think we could do straight up for Figgings talent-wise would be Iguchi or Uribe, and I don't see that happening, because Anaheim's infield is freaking loaded. They might take Anderson for him, but having seen BA for a season, I wouldn't make that deal. The only way that a Figgins deal works is if Figgins is a throw-in alongside some of their big talent youth. I could see the Angels having interest in Josh Fields and Brian Anderson (both going to Anaheim) for Figgins. Well it could be Anderson or Sweeney (either would garnish interest from the Halos).
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) Such as having a horseshoe placed firmly up a team's collective ass. The '05 roster, not the '05 team. If the Sox had Contreras, Buehrle, Garland, Garica and El Duque in the starting rotation pitching like they did this year except with the '05 offense still in place, meaning Jurrasic, Timo, Blum and company would still be around. There ain't a chance in hell the '05 roster wins 90 games in 2006. No doubt about it. We'd have been lucky to win 80.
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) Ditto. Come on, Fathom... do you really disrespect and think that lowly of Kenny? Even with identical numbers (avg/obp) Figgins is light years better than Pods. A, because if you put him in left everyday he'd be one of the better left fielders in baseball (with a very strong arm for a LF) and B, because he truly reaks total chaos on the bases and thats something Ozzie wants and needs. Carl Crawford would be great, but I don't see us having what it takes to get him without creating some serious holes on our lineup, but we could potentially get Figgins. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) You see him alot more than most of us, so I will trust you. Looking the numbers, his 06 was very discouraging. I just think Crede is more valuable than Figgins at this point. You get a good prospect out of the deal as well, then my interest will start to rise. I am not saying we deal Crede for Figgins. I think it would be stupid to deal Crede unless we are getting a super star type prospect in return or a very high level player in return (pitcher or CF).
  22. Don't know if your being sarcastic, but I think the 05 team makes the playoffs. I'm referring to the way the 05 team played, not referring to the 05 roster. Specifically I think we all know that the 06 team would win well over 100 games if our pitching staff pitched like it did last year, if not 110 plus games.
  23. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) Figgins is a slight upgrade over Pods IMO. I liked Figgins alot, but he was Pods-esc this season. If we really want, we can bring Pods back. Why would we trade Crede for something we already have. Give KW a little more credit than that.... You give Figgins one position to play and watch him explode.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 07:04 AM) That's been Stoneman's motto in the past to hang onto the young players. But the Angels missed out on the playoffs this season and Arte Moreno has let it be known that they want to get a stud player in the off-season. So like I said earlier, if the Angels can't sign a good run producer in FA (and I don't think it's a very big class this off-season IIRC), they'll have to fill that need in the trade market. I wouldn't believe though that the Angels wouldn't offer Santana and Kendrick for Garland and Crede when they offered a deal of Santana, Aybar and Kotchman or Adenhart for Miggy Tejada about 2 months back. As for your Crawford suggestion, that's why it's improtant that we trade a veteran starter for a stud pitching spect, so we can include that in the Crawford deal. I'd have no problems with a Danks and Broadway for Crawford deal for example. And if people here think that Tampa would be interested in Owens considering the depth of OF's they have, well I have absolutely no idea where they are coming from. Why in god sakes would we make that trade. Garland is hands down better than Santana and while I love the offensive potential of Kendrick, right now he doens't even come close to holding Crede's jock strap. That would be bloody awful.
  25. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) If it's Pierre or Figgins, Ozzie wins, and our offense, the team, and thus the fanbase all lose. I don't give a damn how fast these guys are or if they can bunt, neither of them can produce runs, neither can throw, and neither can get on base. That is BAD. Umm, Figgins has a pretty darn good arm.
