Rick Hahn 2021 End of Season Press Conference
Chisoxfn replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is true - I think they could get a LF bat at 2B and RF...have Vaughn/Eloy/Sheets/Abreu share time in 3 spots. When people get injured, you still have 1 and if multiple are that is where Burger comes in (unless he has more value than I think on trade front). Play match-ups and give rest...there are still a lot of at bats to give to that group. I don't like going multi-year with Conforto but I do like his bat in the lineup. Put him and Frazier in the lineup and that isn't bad. Of course - you could dangle chips for Ketel Marte and that is one of those scenarios where I'm good moving some of our talent. Cause Marte is under control for 3 years and a damn good player. -

I like the idea of keeping Vaughn, Sheets and Burger. They will all get at bats at some point in the season. Vaughn obviously will get plenty but I think there is plenty of opportunity for the others. Seasons are long and people get hurt and I think all of those players (with Vaughn as the exception) have more value to White Sox than what they can get via trade. People will get hurt...I have no doubt that Vaughn, Sheets, and Burger will all find ways to get meaningful playing time, etc next year. These are good problems to have. I also don't think they should do anything to hand Sheets/Burger more playing time. Appreciate depth - that is what makes this squad good and gives it the ability to overcome major injuries. -
I think this team has all the depth and other guys who need innings / limits (Kopech/Crochet) to where you combine a few of them together and can actually create a pretty good dynamic while creating capacity to handle when someone ends up on DL, etc. I think you can build a pretty modern front end rotation while using pieces like Rodon to ensure they are at their best for the whole season. He should actually be primed to have much better and sustainable arm strength unless he actually suffered a real physical injury (vs. fatigue) during last season.
-
I also self admittedly have always been one of Rodon's super fans. I just love love love his stuff and when it comes to pitching I'm a stuff (above all else guy). Shocking since Maddux, Buehrle, and Pedro are my 3 favorite pitchers in baseball history to watch. 2 of those 3 are not like the other.

I am just stating - I'd spend 1yr 18M. I think the Sox will try and get him for a multi-year deal and more or less maintain contact with Rodon along the way. I wish the best for Carlos and maybe the Sox and Rodon had an agreement -> I'll keep playing but you don't go QO with me. But that guy showed me everything i needed to know when he came out in the post-season and was throwing straight gas. The only question to me is whether Rodon would put the work in. I would use Rodon/Kopech in a staggered situation to balance their workloads and than ocassionally go with a Crochet/ReyLo day for staggered rest and Crochet build up. Gio/Cease/Lynn as your mainstays + one more. Now without going after Rodon - I think Sox absolutely need to make a move for a starter.

I think they will make a play at Frazier. -
No - it is a bad thing because the Sox consistently waste money on not good players in FA (thinking more of the Eaton type of signings). In this case - you aren't doing anything to mortgage the future, you are literally buying an expensive lottery ticket asking him to be something close to what he was this past season. If he does that - he is worth $18M no problem. And I don't doubt Rodon's stuff. There are some guys you debate whether they have the chips to be elite - Rodon is elite as long as he can get on that mound. He is the guy we all thought he could be and showed it. Now whether he puts in the work etc, I don't know. Only reason you don't spend $18M is if you think his arm will fall off or if you think you can work out a LT deal in future. Outside of that - spend the $18M and hope it works out and if it doesn't, you move on next year. They aren't going to find anyone at that price point who can help the rotation more than a healthy Rodon could. And I don't think the reason the Sox didn't do it is because they think he is currently hurt - I think he is healthy.

I want to see a fun MNF game.
-
Pisses me off. Stupid move by Sox.
-
This - I've heard worse things than buying low on Frazier (if in fact you can buy low on him).
-
I want him back to. I am very supportive on giving him a long term deal that has the right blend of guarantees for Rodon but some form of discount given the real longevity concerns tied to him. I go back to - his stuff and pure arm talent are special and the fact Sox still want him tell me they think his issue was more fatigue. My hope is he continues to put in the work in the off-season as if he can do that and keep his core, I'll go 4 years with him and just cross my fingers I get 2+ very good years. He might have been the best pitcher in baseball in the first half of the season (and if not the best - top 3). Injuries or not - I'll take my chances on talent like that all day (but I've been a blind Rodon fan for years).

It is less about what was on tv - but more of just how different views of language, etc were < 20 years ago. I also think some of the references to Enron and random current events from the past has this interesting component where it isn't just a good show...it also brings back the, oh yeah I remember when that scandal, etc was going on.
-
So ignore your sister - and if you don't like it - blame her. If you do like it, don't give her the credit...say you got the advice from someone on a Sox message board you frequent But seriously - I don't just throw recommendations like this out - WIRE is must watch. I'd say the final season has been less interesting, but first few seasons are outstanding and if you invest 2 episodes in it and don't like it give up...not something that you have to wait for pay off. I Feel like the hook is early on this show and the rewards just keep coming.

I was giong to say the same thing. I don't want KAT and VUC next to each other. I think its a disaster, neither is a good defender and they probably negate each other. Towns is a defensive issue -> but he is significantly better than Vuc and younger, so I would be down with upgrading Vuc and than finding a damn good defensive center (in time) to put next to Towns (don't care if he can score - just be able to rebound and play D).
-
If he got an alternative vax and got sick that is a bit different (if it was one of the mainstream ones in another country). I don’t know if for example the nfl allows any of them but the 3 used in the US and there are others. Not saying I know his reason for getting another but if he got sino one and than got Covid that is different than he took some odd ball item. People who are vax still get Covid - that happens. Vax job is to make sure you don’t end up in ER or worse yet die. Now the lie or whatever else and actual punishment if he said one thing and did another - you all have already seen me all over fact it seemed like everyone knew he wasn’t vax and was getting special treatment.
-
For the game to be that close with Lavine and Vuc playing horrendous was actually a blessing. Lavine just was awful offensively in the last handful of minutes. Team D really tightened late in that game.
-
This will be an interesting two games. Sizers are good and they have size in Embiid. Will be curious how Bulls counter / what happens. Hoping for a split.
-
There is no way it is honor system. At my work -> if I want to be in, I need to show proof (and we have to upload it in the system). No way with all these protocols NFL isn't doing the same. Rodgers petitioned the league for his treatment to be counted as VAX. It wasn't, now maybe they gave him some wiggle room for whatever treatment and there is a piece we are missing -> but this seems like a clear situation where a star player got beneficial treatment.
-
I mean the league has been harsh on Cousins, who has to wear mask on sidelines, etc and the league knowingly has been letting Rodgers skirt all the same rules other non vax players have to follow. Pathetic NFL!
-
Technically Rodgers violated all the rules for going to the party since he is not vax. I think league has to come down hard on him, otherwise they are setting a total double standard. Would not be surprised to see him get hit with a suspension for violating Covid protocol.

Had to be.

2 lives ruined from 1 decision. 1 innocent, 1 in control - so unfortunate and 100% avoidable.

How did I never watch the Wire 15 years ago. Been watching it for the last 1-2 months and am finally on the last season. That show is absolutely special. If someone is like me and still hasn't seen it -> HIGHLY recommend it.
