Official College Basketball Thread

Just in case people are curious...the college basketball sports package is in the middle of a free preview. -
The Angels got a lot of talent and I absolutely love Casey Kochman. However the Angels are a far worse team this year than they were last year and barring any major moves I don't anticipate them making the playoffs.

Jim I'm really sorry to hear about your release. Hopefully in the end it works out for the best and you'll find a better opportunity to move up in another organization. Know that you'll always have people here pulling for ya to make the majors. You've given it your all and have already done what most people could only dream of and hopefully in the future you'll be able to do more. Regardless, you've been nothing but class and I for one will continue to follow your career wherever you go. You'll always have fans at Soxtalk and please keep us informed. In the future, I'm hoping to one day put up an article on FutureSox about your call to the majors somewhere. All the best Jim and please make sure you keep us informed. Plus, I got to whoop up on ya again in the fantasy baseball league

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) There is so much more to basketball that just scoring, but I agree that it's making baskets that puts asses in seats. I understand how the business works. While defense rules all without exception, I agree that guys like Samuel Dalembert and Tyson Chandler are making a little bit too much, as casual fans don't come out to see them. They want scoring, scoring, and more scoring. While I pity the fool that thinks along those lines, it's just reality. Don't even compare Dalembert and Chandler. Dalembert is a superior player right now.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) On the other hand, Herm's contract with the Jets was up after next year, and they'd made no obvious moves which would suggest they were willing to give him an extension. Its a contract...I think players and coaches should live up to them.

Seriously, the olympics represent a great thing and they are a great thing.

QUOTE(G&T @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) uh oh Things looked bad in this one. Honestly....what the hell is the point of this article. Its just creative writing.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) The scouting report and the one good year thing make Lopez sound like a lefty Shingo. Or a half assed version of Kelly Wunsch. I hate sidewinders and lefty specialist. I just don't like what it does to the pen. I'm a fan of using the guy thats pitching good and sticking with him regardless of matchups (ozzie did that more often than not; although ocassionally he got really fixated with the whole lefty/lefty thing).

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) I must be looking at the wrong guy then. Kevin Walker has better MLB numbers than this guy has Minor league numbers. Lopez had one solid season at the major league level. Aside from that he's lousy. Not a clue why we should be excited about this.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) Bulls win their 3rd game in a row. Hinrich and Gordon led the way. Is the I hate Ben Gordon fan club gonna give him any props? He's been playing very well of late. As one of the co-founders I gave him quite a bit of props yesterday or the day before. He's been playing much much better since entering the starting lineup.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Heh. I see CSF has a decent record right now. I don't think Lunardi puts anytime into that conference. He probably just pulled the top team off the conference standings. Damn right. Amen to a school that doesn't support its sports teams. Although one of these days I'm gonna get off my ass and go to a game. Our arena is smaller than my high school arena and I swear some of my high school basketball teams would have whipped up on Fullerton's team. That said it was cool how they made the NIT last year and this year they have a solid squad. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology?new New Bracketology. They changed the format of it, and I think it's much easier to follow. Lunardi has 7 Big Ten teams in the field. As if. UCI isn't going to win the Big West. -

Jess Settles for the Hawkeyes ended up being in Iowa City for something like 6 years due to injuries and such. Mainly his back, but I remember one season he played a few games and than had to have back surgery or something and he was declared a medical redshirt. -
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) it's very much american beauty-esque... the craziest problems in the world happen to 6 people. C+ movie at best. Another one of those movies everyone raved about that I refused to see. About the only one I actually saw was Sideways and that was a true piece of garbage.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Wow. I can see someone just not liking it but to think it is the worse films must have sucked very much for you. Im surprised because I really liked it. Why was it so bad for you? I've explained it before. I thought it was a cluttered, boring, random piece of garbage. There was zero point to the story and it was plain old awful. The people I know that liked it (not on this site cause I've given up even discussing it here cause I realize my opinion differs and thats cool; I like plenty of movies that other people hated too) simply because it had great effects. Great effects with a crappy story means nothing to me. In fact, I was hyped up thinking it was going to be great and I think my high expectations made my overall hate for it that much greater. I'd put Transporter 2 on my list but the movie was so freaking terrible that it would make its way on my top 5 list because it was seriously the funniest movie I saw all year. There were a few other movies I saw that I hated, but I can't think of them right now.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) Carolina has an identity crisis. You never know what team is going to show up. Even though Carolina looked like a totally different team that they did earlier, they still played a horrible Giants team that would make any team look that good. The Bears are also a better team now than when they beat Carolina. As seen by the Palmer injury, an injured QB has a huge impact on his team. Grossman is huge factor. Carolina could put 8 or 9 guys in the box every play, and the Bears still won. This time there is no way they can do that, which will free up the Bears running game. I actually hope the Panthers try to stop the run because they will get burnt by the deep ball. So yes the Bears can reach the Superbowl, and if they get there, they actually have a good shot at winning it. Could this be a repeat of 1985 (Bears - Patriots)? Kitna's better than each of our starters at this stage of the game.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) lol Spiff, that comment from him just makes me want to punch him in the mouth. Marcus just might be the dumbest man on earth at this moment, that or he has serious mental problems, and if thats the case, I hope he gets help. The funny thing is that from what I've heard his bro isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed either, yet aside from the whole "Ron Mexico" thing, you never hear anything about him. Kiper mentioned that he was grading him out as a 6th round selection but said he wouldn't be shocked if someone grabbed him earlier (kind of like the whole Clarett getting drafted a lot earlier than people expected). Vick = Deuche

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) Star Wars Episode III Jarhead War of the Worlds A Lot Like Love Four Brothers Fantastic 4 Kingdom of Heaven Wow, two of those movies I enjoyed quite a bit (Star Wars and 4 Brothers). War of the Worlds was solid while Jarhead was decent.

Anyone of these 4 teams can make it to the superbowl. Although I really have my doubts on the Skins. They are just too beat up.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) Why would you take Vazquez over those guys? Unlike Vazquez, the other Sox pitchers have proven that their numbers won't inflate due to pitching at the Cell. As of right now, I'm just as confident in McCarthy as I am Vazquez. I know you like Vazquez, which is fine. He has dynamic stuff, and can go a lot of innings. The great thing about this is that we're talking about 6 very good pitchers....not many teams in the last few decades can claim the same thing. Considering the financial aspect of Vazquez. I'd take the other 3 (Mac, Contreras, and Garland) over Javier if were talking about the better pitcher. That said Mac is obviously unproven still, but he's cheap and we control his rights for a while and he's pitched tremendously at the major league level in his young career. Personally I would be more than happy having Chris Young still in our system. I can only hope Vazquez learns to become a man and stop complaining and whining. Garland doesn't have the stuff Vazquez has, but he's been rock solid, is younger, and has pitched sucessfully with the Sox (as well as in the post-season), while Contreras hands down has some of the best stuff in all of baseball (far superior to Vazquez, who doesn't have near the stuff he once had and its why the Yanks for the longest time thought he was hurt prior to dealing him).

Comissions can go anywhere from the full 6% (3 of which goes to the listing agent and 3 of which goes to the selling agent) and can be lower. Typically I'd say if you did it for 4% your doing pretty good with the listing agent taking 1.5 and the selling agent at 2.5%. However this is based on my experience in California and I'm sure comission prices vary by area. If the homes are less expensive than my guess is the full 3% (at least for the selling agent) is standard. Also, if your listing the house with the same agent that helps find you a new house, typically than you can do it where the listing agent gets 1% cause they will also get around 2.5-3% when they find a new house for you. Hope that helps. It made sense when I wrote it, but who knows if it makes sense when ya read it.
