  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) I don't think anyone is pissed at KW. Everyone's pissed at the situation. Tied to 500 rumors, get Geoff Blum. That's plenty to be pissed at, bad market or not. No, there isn't. If other teams aren't willing to make a deal you can't get pissed at Kenny. Afterall, this team has the best record in baseball and while they aren't playin as good as they have as of late, they are still a very very good ball club. If you can get into the post-season anything can happen. I got faith in my Sox
  2. Relax people...this is the club with the best record in baseball. Boston, Anaheim, Oakland..the rest of the division leaders have yet to make a major deal (Boston may acquire Romero). GMAFB...Kenny wasn't gonna drastically overpay and there weren't any options.
  3. Phillips likes it, most everyone isn't really knocking it. No reason to, its not like a bunch of the playoff teams were busy. Other GM's weren't willing to deal, nothing you can do about that.
  4. You know Kenny and fact of the matter other teams weren't willing to make deals. Nothing you can do about it. Olney said Kenny was willing to deal McCarthy for anyone he felt made the Sox a World Series competitor. Fact of the matter is, none of the other playoff rivals have done anything as of yet. Cubs acquire Matt Lawton.
  5. QUOTE(Fotop @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) Actually I think we're seeing the final days of Chuck Lamar. He's pretty much destroyed all relations with most GMs. This deadline especially, he could have gotten some great deals...but he tried to play chicken and got burned. I doubt the Devil Rays ownership really cares all that much, but if they want to change their image Lamar needs to get the boot. He's an absolutely horrid GM.
  6. Braves make a deal with the Tigers for Farnsworth, per ESPN.
  7. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Yeah right... Don't let the fact he's on the Tigers now fool you... I think khe just said Cubs as a force of habit. Makes sense to me.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) BP is now reporting Youkilis and Jose Cruz JR. for Romero. They think its a done deal. Makes sense. Good deal for the BoSox, and the Twins needed a CF (Cruz could do it or Jacque or Lew could move and Ford could play a corner spot) and than Youkilis is a quality 3rd bagger. Romero is a stud reliever which Boston could really use.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Guillen said he wanted to bring in a bullpen guy from the minors, I suspect with the addition of Blum you will see Harris and Gload optioned out. Unless something else pops before the deadline. The Adkins call up is not confirmed but the charlotteknights guy at WSI is either close to the team or employed by them, he is always spot on. Ya, he's a pretty good source on the most part. I've heard a little on Adkins, but it will be interesting to see for sure.
  10. I've looked into some verification on the Adkins thing. We'll see. Makes zero sense to me, unless someone is going to the DL. Even then I'm sick to my stomach. BAJ >>>>> Adkins
  11. f***ing horses*** if I see Adkins. He's garbage.
  12. ATO: Meaux Traded to Padres; News on Honel and Brooks By Jason Gage FutureSox.com July 31, 2005 The Chicago White Sox bolstered their bench a few hours before baseballs July 31st, non waiver-trade deadline, acquiring utility man Geoff Blum from the Padres in exchange for LHP Ryan Meaux. Blum, a versatile infielder, will replace Willie Harris or Ross Gload on the Sox 25 man roster...MORE
  13. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Probably, but I don't think there is a rule or something to that affect. MLB needs the paperwork by then, but deals can semi be worked out a little past. Its kind of odd how it happens, but I think your right. He'd have to be out of the lineup pretty quickly.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:28 AM) Or it could have been Gary Majewski, who the Sox traded to the Dodgers, then traded back for him. He then got picked up in the Rule 5 draft and was returned to the Sox when he didn't make Detroit's opening day roster. He currently has a nice 3.18 ERA in 51 appearances out of the Washington Nationals bullpen. Its good seeing Maj pitch so well. He's a quality guy and has definately earned it. I always was a fan of his and well Its nice to see he's gotten an opportunity to pitch at the major league level and he's definately responded well to it.
  15. Even if its Hairston...Twins badly need some pop and they'd be dealing a good portion of their staff without getting any (at most Cubs give up someone like Hairston) so it makes no sense. Who knows, maybe the Twins have another deal worked out. Thats the only thing I could possibly think of cause I think they'd be clearing up some payroll in that deal. Mays and Loshe make a combined 10 million. Could they be a sleeper and go after Burnett and Lowell or something along those lines. It obviously frees up payroll to allow Terry Ryan to make another move. One thing though, how the hell does a team in the thick of things deal 2 starters.
  16. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Has it been confirmed that both Blum & Mackiowak are members of the White Sox now? Mackoviak hasn't been dealt to the Sox. Blum is a White Sox though.
  17. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) Rich Hill and another ML player from Cubs to Twins. Todd Walker to Texas along with Mays and Lohse, I think I heard. So the Twins deal Mays and Loshe for Rich Hill and another major leaguer. Cubs deal Todd Walker, Rich Hill and another MLer (goes to Twins) for Alf Rangers deal Alfonso Soriano for Loshe, Mays, and Todd Walker Sounds like a nice deal for the Rangers, they get two decent starters and a quality 2nd baseman for Alf. Cubs give up a lot but get a good player...don't see why the heck the Twins do that. Hill is a pretty good prospect, but they better have a way to get some other pitchers.
  18. Curious as to what the Twins would get. I'd think they'd be looking for some ML help and I know they want Soriano so it seems unlikely they would help another team get him. Of course they did make that 3 way with the BoSox/Cubs last year and the Twins are owed a favor by the Cubs for that (IIRC the Twins actually didnt' get everything they could cause the deal was made right at the deadline and there was an error in it). Ryan let the deal go through anyway.
  19. I'd deal Conteras/Marte/Sweeney or a similar package for AJ Burnett and Guillermo Mota. Than I'd package Viz and Baj for Scott Eyre. Burnett >>>> Contreras Eyre Mota >>>> Viz (especially when healthy)
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Ahhh, two hours and we can close this s*** pile of a forum down. Don't be so quick...there is still the playesr who pass through waivers and can get dealt during the next month
  21. QUOTE(fattyguy78 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) he was also available on waivers before too Ya, when the Sox removed Meaux from the 40 man roster this spring...IIRC.
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Wow, the Giants are stupid if they're gonna keep going for it. Sure, they may make the playoffs, though it's an outside chance even in such a horrible division. But, they'll just get bounced in the playoffs easily. Soriano will add nothing to that team. Their defense will still be bad, which is a major problem for them, and his offense will go down considerably with that park and very little protection in that lineup. And then he's gone after this year, isn't he? God, I've always hated the Giants. They aren't just doing it for this year, they want to compete next year as well when they get Barry back. I don't watch the Giants enough to know how much these moves will help, but Sabean has been a pretty darn good GM (he's willing to give up stuff, but the Giants have been a good team for a pretty long time, so I'd put some faith in his moves).
  23. Meaux was aquired by the Sox from the Giants a few years back in a deadline deal along with Felix Diaz.
