Hammerhead. Haven't heard any names, although I'm assuming the Lakers have a mid-level exception and they will likely split it up on a PG and another big man. That or they will hope to find a taker for Brian Grants albatross of a contract and package him along with someone else and try to work something out (don't ask me how they could do that). Earl Watson is a name that makes a lot of sense to me. Knows how to run an offense, is solid defensively. Basically he's a simliar player to Duhon (although I like Duhon more in the long-run). The other nice thing about Watson from the Laker perspective is that he'd quickly be a fan favorite since he's one of the few quality players to come out of UCLA in a while (still the more popular of the two schools in LA).

Oh god...I'm so confused. I hate Tom Cruise...yet I hate France. Did France actually do something good or is this the best thing ever to happen to Tom Cruise. I'm gonna have to go with all of the above. France and Cruise are still deuche's in my book. Yet I can somehow speak the language semi-fluently (uggh).

The First White Sox wedding about to happen

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) Ours was just over 10K. 10K just for JR and a location.. nuts. This is giving me an idea.....runs on the internet to become a certified priest at a wedding. Add this to the Soxtalk Fantasy Experience. Get married by the owner of Soxtalk via the web for $5000. Half the price and all the guests can interact via instant messenger -
Glavine was much more active the past two labor deals, especially the last one, IIRC.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) I think the answer here is Obvious.... Aubrey Huff.... Big back... Can play 3B for now... and when Crede is fully healthy it allows us to give Konerko his walking papers... Plus can spell the OF too... Big bat... Impact player.... For a package of Anderson, Sweeney, and BMAC maybe the DRAY'S Will bite.. Good god, yet your not willing to give up that sort of package for Schmidt? Heck no, I'd throw up if the Sox dealt for Huff right now. Huff in the offseason, sure, not a bad move (as long as they aren't giving up what you suggest). Right now Huff doesn't fit on this team. He's a poor defensive 3rd baseman and the Sox shouldn't weakne there defense one bit. If they want to win they need to strenghten what this team is built upon...pitching and defense as well as smart baseball. Huff is a good hitter, but he's crap at 3rd base and it would be a detrimate to this pitching staff to have him playing everyday. If the Sox want to acquire someone, it could be a 3rd baseman (but he better be able to pick it). Otherwise it should be a shortstop, which than gives the Sox two good defensive players capable of playing 3rd in Crede and Uribe. Uribe can also spell others. Thats why I badly want Vizquel. They stay equal defensively at SS while upgrading the bench (uribe moving there) and the lineup improves greatly by getting another type of player this club needs (great 2 hole hitter, heady player, and a leader).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) I'm really starting to lean this way as well. As much as Burnett is intriguing getting Lilly adds depth to the rotation, could be a bullpen saver as well and obviously it wouldn't cost us as much. I'm pro Lilly at this point or a pitcher like him. I just don't get why Lilly would be on the market when the Jays are one of the teams hot after Burnett. If they are looking to add pitching, than I don't see them moving Lilly. It would essentially be counterproductive.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) I went to a game alone in 2003 vs Minny. (carl and robbies 1st game with the sox) I was so pumped up about the moves at the time. We were losing to minny all game. Actually, in the 9th, with 2 outs, people were leaving as the slumping Paul Konerko came to bat. I stayed in my seat until the end. GAME TYING HOME RUN! We went to extras Frank hit the game winner in xtras ( his 2nd hr of the night) Best game I ever attended PERIOD He creamed that homer off Guardado too. It was just an epic battle between Frank and Eddie and than bam. I swear, when he hit that HR, I thought the Sox were destined to win the series. I still shake my head at 2003...I can't believe the Sox didn't win it all that year (let alone not make the playoffs).

ROFL Tex...Your on your A game today.

Ah christ...yet another troll to get rid of

What about someone in Philly's rotation. Jon Lieber hasn't exactly dominated, but he's a quality pitcher who may not look that bad. I forget how long his contract is though (probably another 2 years).

QUOTE(marsh @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) It's funny what one game's performance can do to how people feel about guys. If marte struggles yesterday he's "done" and "not the same marte as a couple years ago", but instead he strikes out three guys and is now a stud reliever. I hope he continues pitching lights out and his injury is in the past but I'm not gonna let one game (good or bad) determine a guy's value. The thing is he came out and looked healthy. Of course I would never deal Cotts.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) Beckett. Burnett had the TJ issue but seems otherwise fine. BUrnett is a very Kerry Wood like pitcher Ya, I was debating this with Mario yesterday and I think you have to at least realize there are a lot of similarities between Burnett and Wood. Both have that stellar stuff, Burnett has had a serious injury (not as checkered of a past as Wood though) and frankly both haven't really reached up to their potential and struggle with command. The question is whether the plusses out way the negatives (ie the chance he'll come in and dominate when he's on vs the chance he'll get hurt or just never find his control and be overpaid).

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) especially after trading Chucky Atkins. Atkins was one of the teams problems. Atkins, Odom, and the lack of anyone in the low post was why the Lakers were so putrid last year. Odom could be better this year though, if Phil can get him to play any defense and if he is able to play the 3 instead of the 4.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) That's because they have nothing read in their ml's. We have Gonzo. You can either ship them Uribe or Gonzo. Let them pick. Gonzo/Valido/Lopez plus a Wes Whisler type prospect. If they wanted even a guy like Baj or Munoz. Of course I'd prefer not to give up Valido out of any of them, but he's still a few years off and frankly, Omar helps the club this year and if they don't unload him in the offseason, the next few years.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:34 AM) steff, the soxtalk young'n crew will be out in full force for the saturday boston game. me,keith, brian will be there, plus we're meeting greasy at the game. watch out Tell Brian to leave his Buehrle jersey at home.

I don't think Aaron has been as bad as most, but he's going to have a strong 2nd half. AJ will get his average into the mid .270's by the end as well. However, I expect really big things from Paulie.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:27 AM) If Omar Vizquel is available, how about him? Uribe could go back to the role where he flourished last season. Omar is getting up there in age, so he would need a breather. Crede probably will need a lot of time off, and Iguchi could rest every now and then. The contract for Vizquel is the turn off. They didn't want to give him an extra year last winter, or he would be with the White Sox and Iguchi would probably not. But IIRC, the difference in the total package SF gave him vs. the White Sox is less than $3 million so maybe they would now be willing to roll the dice, considering $2 million of that contract has already been paid and Omar is playing well. Ozuna could move into Harris' role, and when Uribe is spelling Omar, Vizquel could come in late in the game and steal a base or actually get a bunt down. Ozuna could have Harris' current role. Bad backs concern me, because they usually become chronic. I'm with ya on this Dick. Been preaching it for the past few days. I want Vizquel badly and it makes so much sense considering how it moves Uribe to a super platoon position. He'll get plenty of Ab's playing 3rd twice a week, SS once a week and 2nd once a week or so. It will also keep Crede, Vizquel, and Iguchi fresh and at the same time if Crede goes down you can plug in Uribe as the starter.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) Pablo Ozuna is a decent UTL guy. But with Joe Crede having 2 herniated discs in his back, someone who could possibly take over 3b on a semi-regular basis [say a 3 week stretch that Joe could rest his back], who would be a definite upgrade over Ozuna would be needed for the sox in the playoffs. If Joe's back keeps him out for the playoffs, I want someone who could take over at 3B. If Joe's back is OK, the UTL would have to pay elsewhere as well. He should be a good glove, handle the bat well [bunt, move runners over] and either have a good avg or high OBP; also play multiple positions. Thoughts on who? The usual suspects--Mackowiak, Cintron? Others? No big names here. Just plausible UTL guys. Juan Uribe....trade for Omar Vizuqel and then you would have the best utility guy in baseball in Juan.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:50 AM) Keep your eyes on Omar Vizquel, gang. Seriously. Now that the Sox are a virtual lock for the playoffs, Kenny may be able to convice JR and company to take on the bad contract in Vizquel. If Kenny was in love with him before the season, I find it hard to beleive he isn't at least sending out his feelers for him now. Omar could come in here and give this team a veteran kick in the pants. It would be awesome. I was calling for him before the season, and I'd love to see him in here now. In fact, you may actually be able to get him for a relative steal if the Giants seem themselves as sellers and want to rid themsevles of the awful contract--something I think Saban had in mind when signing him to that nasty thing. Its not near as bad as a lot of contracts. Its basically the risk of giving up that extra year. Financially speaking its very fair, especially when you look at the type of money Christian Guzman and some other shortstops have gotten recently (Jimmy Rollins and Cabrera being others). Still I think Omar makes so much sense. The question is will the Giants deal him cause I've read how they want to hold onto him for next year.
