White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
Chisoxfn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes -
I have zero issue if they cut bait with Poles, zero.
-
Someone make us a really good one.
-
Cunningham is someone I think pretty highly of.
-
I don’t feel bad for Poles. He has had three years of s%*# records and s%*# lines. I am fine if he stays but if a legit head coach came in and they switched gms - no complaint. He hasn’t been that special - this team is just as much on him as Flus.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert

I really hope it’s Phillies. -
I don't love the catching prospect as the main get - but I at least like that they got some position prospects and some guys with upside. In general I am supportive of the move as well - has to be done.
-
I'm good with this selection.

Vrabel seems like the front-runner, but I can't argue with talking to Brady and clearly they need to talk to Ben Johnson. Vrabel making playoffs in 4 out of 6 years with lousy QB play is a positive in my mind. 49 years old too - so if you get this right, you could finally have a coach that sticks around a while and one who I think will have learned some things in his year off and come in pretty refreshed. I would be curious to see where he looks at OC - does he go with McDaniels, does he try to pull Arthur Smith or go somewhere else.

Hard watching Chargers and not sit here going god they had Harbaugh for the taking. They may lose to Chiefs but they are so tough, physical and well coached in what was supposed to be a retooling year for the Chargers. Is there a Joe Alt in this years draft?
-
And a real Coaching staff - I’m all in on Vrabel at this point and while I have my doubts on Belicheck I would be fine with him too.
-
They need to draft a LT, sign a legit guard, draft another interior linemen early…also use picks on dline.

Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
Chisoxfn replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Those were such a good time to spend big money. Teams were nervous over big deals and Sox had space and it was time they could have legit won a deal or two. Im hoping we see that window come up again soon but it still takes a new owner too. -
Giants sign SS Willy Adames — 7-years, $182M
Chisoxfn replied to WhiteSox2023's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This might work in Sox favor. They have no business to spend much this offseason but maybe teams go crazy and than get scared in a year or two when Sox have new owner and plenty of money to spend (and hopefully a good system and some young up and coming legit major league talent). -
In my mind Beli is very different than Harbaugh. Beli is old and grizzlied and as good as he was he had a real bad run with no qb and is pretty old at this point. I think I’d rather go Pete Carroll before I interviewed Belicheck. Harbaugh though has another 10 years of coaching in him and was a total no brainer to at least talk to. Kind of like this cycle Vrabel is someone you got to at least interview.

Sox offered 700 million - but it was deferred 100 years…

My view is - Bears should be doing all their homework now and have a short and tight list to tackle right when season ends. Keep your short list to 4-5 names and move quick in interview process and than give a good contract to your top guy. On my list of must interviews are: 1) Mike Vrabel - My personal favorite. If Bears don’t interview him - it means this is same ole Bears cause this is the exact type of coach they would not touch in the past. If Bears interview - at least it’s a good sign (even if they go another direction). But this guy is no nonsense, smart and has been successful with mediocre qbs. I also think he fits the style that works in a cold weather city and has shown a knack for finding good offensive coordinators (see Arthur Smith). 2) Ben Johnson - My guess is this is who Bears will hire. He runs a really good offense and has done it for 3 years. I don’t know how dynamic a leader he is - but long term on field results with Goff have been excellent (yes great talent too - but they scheme guys open as well). 3) Thomas Brown - He is in very tough spot - but some guys just have a special quality and he might just be that type of guy. Press conferences don’t mean anything but he clearly has juice on the podium and evidently in the locker room. 4) Kliff Kingsbury - I’m skeptical here because the Arizona gig went south but he did have a lot of early success and guys learn. He’s worked with Caleb and you can’t argue what is happening in Washington with Jayden. 5) Wildcard Candidate: Back channel to see if you can get Shanny or assess a Mike McDaniel / Browns HC. Do homework on Gruden as well - but I am Leary here given how long he was away from coaching and the circumstances around his removal - but if you think he is the best - go get him. Knows how to surround himself with great minds. Heck, his brother Jay had one of the all time great offensive staffs around him.

Manfred: mlb considering “Golden at bat” rule
Chisoxfn replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If nothing else it’s an interesting concept. Maximize more at bats for the stars of the game in big time situations. While at first glance I don’t like it - I get the concept. -
Poles stunk at picking the coach (to extent he actually picked Flus or actually chose to keep Flus). And he was clearly involved in Waldron and others coordinators and that didn't work. Warren is arrogant - which can be good or bad - but he doesn't want to take half measures - he wants to be successful and I think he is more likely to basically rip things to ground if he doens't think its working, etc. He might end up being too inpatient and I won't pretend that he has accomplished much - but his attitude / ego is very different than Phillips for example and I think that means he is going to go full stop to do what he thinks is best. Where as I think Poles wanted to be right - but his way. I don't know - watch Poles step down or something real crazy.
-
This - the only scenario I see here is if you are Poles maybe you don’t go for Vrabel or Beli (or last year Harbaugh) cause they would bring more power and thus you prefer the greener candidates. This allows that scenario to be off the table but it also shows a lack of trust.
-
One difference - I really don’t think Jerry cares that much where as I know the McCaskeys care - they can’t get out of their own way but they care.
-
I agree - they had no good options though, which shows you how weak the staff Flus and Poles put together was. I guess from a locker on perspective Brown is the one guy with juice - Washington seems like he has a bit too so I presume Brown will turn the defense to him and focus on offense plus a few other things but ultimately it’s going to be a lot of work for Brown.
-
Hard job for him but it is clear he is the one coach team believes in.
-
Who will interim be

Lions showed this too. I do think if I were them I would focus on lines - move in draft where appropriate and use free agency. Interior fixes unless a stud lt prospect is there.
