Q&A With Ryan Sweeney
Q&A With Ryan Sweeney Interview Conducted by Mike Doyle August 2, 2004 FutureSox.com Ryan Sweeney was the Sox 2nd round pick in the 2003 draft. Sweeney entered the draft as one of the top high school hitting prospects, but also as one of the better pitching prospects in the draft. Sweeney would slide to the 2nd round due to signing concerns, but the Sox scouts gauged his interest and knew he wanted to play professional baseball. Sweeney has played at Winston Salem all season and is hitting .279 with 5 HR and 51 RBI. Sweeney, along with Baron outfielder Brian Anderson, are the Sox top outfield prospects...MORE

BMac and Tracey Named Co Pitchers of the Week
Tracey was drafted out of UCI. He didn't start pitching until junior college though so when he joined the system he was very raw.

BMac and Tracey Named Co Pitchers of the Week
Bmac and Tracey Named Co Pitchers of the Week By Jason Gage August 2, 2004 FutureSox.com At tonight Warthog game RHP's and good friends Brandon McCarthy and Sean Tracey received phone calls from the league office informing them that they were named Carolina League Co-Pitchers of the week. Brandon McCarthy got pub for his two outings during the recent week, but Sean Tracey pitched as good, minus McCarthy's insane strikeout totals. McCarthy was 2-0 on the week with a 1.38 ERA in 13 innings of work. The right hander gave up 6 hits and two runs on the week while striking out 23 batters. McCarthy is 4-0 with the Hogs with 44 strikeouts to just 3 walks. Sean Tracey matched McCarthy, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Tracey gave up four hits in 12 innings of work. Tracey struck out nine while walking five. Tracey has been the Warthogs ace all season long. Both pitchers are becoming more and more familiar amongst White Sox fans and should have bright futures in the organization.

Koyie Hill
He made his debut with Arizona last night. He had previously played in the majors last year with the Dodgers. Hill was part of the Steve Finley deal and has the makings of a good catching prospect, especially offensively. He's still quite raw behind the plate.

FutureSox.com Player of the Week Award
I knew their was a reason I didn't notice him. His 2nd start was yesterdya, which wasn't part of the player of the week period.

FutureSox.com Player of the Week Award
You've convinced me...I'll do a revised one with Tracey as the not quite Co Pitcher of the Week but the Honorable Mention Pitcher of the Week.

FutureSox.com Player of the Week Award
Tracey was really good, I'll admit. I was tempted to do some co things, but BMAC was just so sick.

Aaron McNeal Sent to Birmingham
Aaron McNeal Sent to Birmingham By Jason Gage August 2, 2004 FutureSox.com Charlotte Knights first baseman/designated hitter Aaron McNeal was sent back to AA Birmingham today. McNeal, 26, was hitting .243 with 3 HR and 13 RBI in 32 games with the Knights since being promoted from Birmingham. McNeal was signed as a free agent by the White Sox in December of 2003. McNeal was hitting .290 with 15 HR and 44 RBI for the Barons. Prior to this demotion, their was some speculation that Winston Salem Warthogs' first baseman Casey Rogowski was finally going to get promoted to Birmingham. Rogowski could still be promoted to Birmingham, but another move would have to be made. McNeal struggled in his stint with the Knights because he is a predominant pull hitter and the AAA pitchers continually pitched him outside. This lead to numerous weak groundouts to the 3rd baseman and shortstop.

Joe Crede
I didn't catch the games over the weekend, or at least not too much of them, but prior to that it seemed like Crede was getting a little more agressive at the plate and it was leading to quite a few hard hit singles and what not. I mean Crede has a lot of clutch hits, but to me he's been kind of improving as of late offensively. I still have loads of faith in this guy, plus its not like I want to see Uribe at 3rd. Hell, I don't even wnat Uribe in the lineup right now. I'm still pissed he's been playing as much as Willie Harris.

With the Bevy of Trades
But his last four starts have been, frankly, unbelievable. I'm not saying he's a top prospect, but he's been pitching his ass off. He's not walking many, has increased his strikeout numbers, and is giving up a small amount of hits. Remember, he was out all of last year after being hit by the line drive against Baltimore.

Yofu Throws a No Hitter; McCarthy Strikes out 16 By Jason Gage August 1, 2004 FutureSox.com The Charlotte Knights got a tremendous pitching performance on Sunday by starting pitcher Tetsu Yofu. Yofu was fabulous, striking out a season high ten batters en route to a no hit shutout. The no hitter was the first since Charlotte joined the International League in 1993...MORE

I thought the twist at the end was cool, but in general, I just didn't like the movie. Not worth the money, imo.

Loaiza traded to NY, Contreras discussion
They gave up quite a bit for an overrated shorstop, although the cubs definately helped themselves out. Nomar is not the player he once was and will see a serious drop in his numbers away from Fenway. However he does shore up their middle infield, but the Cubs gave up some good prospects.
