  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 11, 2016 -> 07:40 AM) It would be nice if he could be a force. I don't think anyone can be sold yet, but hopeful. He seems like a good kid who really works hard and wants to be good. Hopefully this works. His work ethic (to go along with his tools) is one of the big reasons I never could 100% write him off. If he had a lazier work ethic, I'd put the odds far less of him turning things around. Still, very small sample size but clearly reasons to be potentially optimistic.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 11, 2016 -> 05:51 AM) What craft beer did you end up getting? Bud, Miller, and Coors.
  3. http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2016/05/r...avisail-garcia/ Really good piece by a new writer at SoxNet, Bill Cowhey
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 11, 2016 -> 06:22 AM) Hamels is tough, but the Sox bats seem to be heating up. Hopefully Latos will bounce back after a couple of mediocre outings. I hope our bats come out. I think if we get the mediocre Latos that would be a good thing and about as much as I could have expected when we signed him. He's doing a good job of pitching, but his stuff isn't good enough to continue to pitch like he did early in the season. Stay healthy and give us quality innings which keep us in the game is what I hope Latos can do. Anything more is gravy. Come on Sox...pick up the pen from last night.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 11, 2016 -> 06:36 AM) That is a good point. The one that was on Fox or TBS last year in the playoffs was either way off, or the umpires had the same issues every game. The problem is, we are talking inches. One or 2 inches makes all the difference in the world, and if you aren't working the edges of the plate, you wind up being an ex pitcher. Almost impossible to get them all right, but obviously some are much better and consistent than others. That's why I think if they aren't going to go robotic, they should make the best balls and strikes umpires just balls and strikes umpires. I think the problem the notion of making the balls and strikes umps, just the balls and strikes umps is the physical toll it would take to be behind the plate every single game umping (hard enough for a professional athlete like a catcher, let alone an ump).
  6. Yes...the first batter should have been out...doesn't justify giving up 5 runs. Last night the Sox played 2014 baseball. They were sloppy and whenever they had a chance to make a play defensively or pitch passed an issue, they failed. Bottom line, there were countless times with Rodon on the bump where the defense could have made a play and didn't and it led to runs and than in the 8th again that was the case (with Jackson...although it was still a rocket of Desmond's bat). I still like umps and I actually hate replay in regular season baseball.
  7. Omg you all are terrible. Never seen more overacting in my life. Feel sorry for you all. It's a 162 game regular season...s*** happens and you move on.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 10, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) f***ing rv had no business treating this game so casually. Yes a five run lead in the eighth after we went twelve the night before...for Pete sake if you can't trust Carroll for that than he shouldn't be on the roster. Their isn't a pitcher in the bigs (or shouldn't be) who couldn't be expected to handle a five run lead in the ninth. s*** happens...need to overcomes.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2016 -> 09:26 PM) All started on a blown strike 3 to Andrus Yep. Similarly a ton of rodons runs given up were due to sox not making the necessary plays. Hope I wrong but this just seems like a script of some sort of crazy ending. Come on Albers...get us out of this jam!!!
  10. Time for a kick ass Rodon start and another White Sox winner!!!
  11. SCS, not ignoring you, I just don't know enough to give an educated advice. When I worked in real estate and what I've gained via osmosis from a father whose been in the business for 40 years, when it comes to foreclosures, I was always told stay away. Doesn't mean you can't make money or do things, just that there are a lot of potential pitfalls / complications that go with foreclosures. Things that can really bite you in the ass. What all of those things are, I don't know.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 10, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) I know some hate him, but Rosenbloom was hilarious this morning http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/rosen...510-column.html Good piece. What I'd give to see Forman go.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 10, 2016 -> 06:36 AM) I hope it's real, but Avi has been hot before. He hit .349 his first 23 games with the White Sox. Last year on May 17, his splits were .346/.380/.492. He is ripping the ball right now, but has gone on insane hot streaks before. He has a lot of talent. Even his biggest critics will admit that. But it still is wait and see, but at least enjoy it while he is locked in. He was a machine last year early (first two months he had good production as you've highlighted). The tools are clearly there from an offensive perspective. The real question is can he consistently swing at the right pitches. Guys have made adjustments in there careers and taken off. I always said I liked Avi in a platoon role this year where he still got some chance to get AB's (because while I certainly didn't want to give him a starting job, I wasn't ready to just sit him either given his tools, which I think are pretty legit from an offensive perspective) and really another opportunity to potential create more playing time for himself. The LaRoche situation clearly pushed him into more playing time, but thankfully we made the move to address outfield defense. Hopefully we can see him continue to have more focused at bats and improved patience.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 10, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) Bears will continue to lose guys with the way their front office is structured though. They have Ryan Pace as General Manager and Josh Lucas as Director of Player Personnel. Then they have Champ Kelly as Director of Pro Scouting and Douglas as Director of College Scouting. The Lucas position is a spot that many teams don't even have. For example, when Angelo was GM, Gabriel was College Scouting Director and Bobby DePaul was Pro Scouting Director. Those guys could only leave to take GM jobs. Heading up a personnel department will always be a promotion for Bears guys because Lucas will be above them. Agree...although technically the Bears could have blocked the Eagles from hiring away from us (and others) as the only real protection they have would be if they were leaving for a GM job. That said, Pace (and Fox) for that matter both seem to be huge proponents of letting guys take promotions elsewhere (even if it hurts the Bears in the short-term, I think they view it as if guys go elsewhere and have success it only makes the Bears jobs more attractive...plus probably something about fresh minds always can bring in new viewpoints, etc).
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 10, 2016 -> 06:55 AM) It needs to have longer episodes. I don't know if the longer episodes would ruin it or not. Love the show though. So damn hillarious.
  16. That was the most impressive OT performance in the playoffs I can ever remember an individual player having. Wow.
  17. I really liked the guy we lost...just because he came from the Ravens, haha.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 9, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) Well it's different because Littlefinger had a much bigger potential storyline with that move, and remember, he'd burn the entire world if it meant he could rule it. So it totally fits who he is. This stuff though, it just doesn't make sense from either side. Agreed...why I can agree that the littlefinger stuff was a bit lazy, it still absolutely fit into the overall storyline and it is clear how into power he is.
  19. One other thing to think about is Osha (sp?) is a wilding and has presumably been living amongst the Umbers for the past two years. She herself has seen what is happening (and it isn't the wildings they should be worried about). You wonder if due to the respect of the Starks, Osha and Rinkon were able to convince them that the wildings are not bad people and that the real battle is going to begin and given the loyalties, etc, they needed to come up with a plan to reunite the north.
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 9, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) And that's why we are having this discussion, neither side really makes any sense with the facts known. The only thing I can think of is that Greatjon died and his allegiance to the Starks (remember he was the first to proclaim Robb as king of the north) was the only thing keeping the Umbers loyal. But that seems shaky at best. Yep..that was my point...given how loyal the father was to the Starks, I just don't see how the son could differ so much, especially against a family who had totally betrayed the Starks. I suppose the wildings angle is decent enough cover for the story...but I am convinced there is more there (but I'm a Stark loyalist so I always root for the Starks).
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 9, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) Yea I agree that the Umbers did this on purpose and aren't working with Osha and Rickon, I don't like the fact that Lord Umber is using the wildlings as an excuse to turn on Rickon though, seems weak as hell and totally out of character for a pro-Stark house. Do we really know that the father Umber (who was extremely loyal to the Starks) is actually dead even? Could be, maybe he isn't though. Wasn't Rickon supposed to go to the Umbers (because they were the most loyal of all to the Starks) and most likely has been with them for quite a long time (since a few years have passed from when we last saw him in "real" time). Couldn't have taken him that long to get to the Umbers and thus now they are just going to trade him (or has he just been in capture for two plus years just because and now they have decided is the time to leverage him) because of Jon Snow and the Wildings. I don't buy it.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 9, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) Oh, Jason. This isn't a comic catch-all Yes it is. Talk of DC and Marvel in here so I'll just put it in here. I don't care whether it is DC or Marvel, just rather it is good or bad.

So despite making fun of antman (the concept)...I watched the movie and was pleasantly surprised. Good popcorn flick.
  24. I've enjoyed him (and still enjoy Hawk) but than again, people would say I'm boring, lol. So maybe I just like that dry humor. In general, I always liked Stoney (until he came to the Sox where I thought he lost it) and now I'm getting a lot more of the Stoney I always appreciated (which is an extremely intelligent baseball guy who you can learn a lot about the game of baseball (including intricacies) from.
