QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) If anyone questions the purpose and entertainment of twitter, that scrolling down of 1000 Woj tweets within 10 minutes of each other was awesome. I still am not sure I understand where anyone is. I also don't get Philly trading MCW after getting rid of whosehisface at the draft I think they got the Lakers pick from Phoenix, which could be very valuable (Top 5 protected so if Lakers somehow come back that is a nice pick).

There was a heck of a lot of activity in a couple hours.

Isiah Thomas to Boston.

Afflalo to the Blazers.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Awesome. I'm sure it's the latter. That makes complete sense. Thanks man, appreciate it! It could also be that one is showing impacts of after hours trading while the other isn't.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) If he is on the team, he will be the starter, or it makes no sense. IMO, these comments basically mean they are trying to trade him, and won't cut him. If you look into the comments, it is that they haven't committed to him and that they would be crazy to do so at this point. Basically they all admit the talent but say the process is more than that and they need time to fully evaluate and work through the issue. Below is a really good article summarizing the commentary from Fox. I think everything in this article is pretty articulate and I appreciate that Fox / Pace haven't made outrageous blanket statements. Ultimately I still expect Jay to be here but it would be stupid for them to instantly say Jay is our QB, blah blah blah. They barely know Jay and I think a huge component in this evaluation is how Jay behaves and acts, the intangibles, etc, and they have flat out said you can't go off of preconceived notions and what you have heard, you need to evaluate it for yourself. My guess is they ultimately do a lot of this evaluation during the off-season and probably to a large extent during the season (although if the situation were to come up where they thought they could get a QB who fit their long term plans, they clearly would do it). http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/...back-jay-cutler -
2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) How is Matt Lindstrom high reward? Haha...I was going to say the same thing. His upside is a solid, early inning reliever. To expect him to be a late inning contributor would be a bad idea. I think the Angels know that and this is a good, cheap, potential vet you can plug into your pen that can potentially help you in those games where you have to go to the pen early, etc. -

Did he make a comment about showtime? Or more something along player distractions. -
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) Just catching the replay and Cavs are playing sloppy. Mentally on break already. Still a good win for the Bulls, just saying. What I liked was the Bulls looked fast and energized. Offensively, we were a different team too. Excellent ball movement and great spacing and the team did an excellent job moving when they didn't have the basketball. During our stretch of losses, our offense had poor spacing & awful rotations (no ball movement). Team basically looked like the Knicks (where it was total one on one basketball). Big difference when Rose is both attacking and distributing the ball (while protecting the ball). Those turnovers we were giving up were brutal and I think they are an underrated part of why our defense (from an OPP PPG) has taken a hit as PG turnovers tend to result in a lot of transition buckets.

That was a lot of fun. Touche to Snell. Playing much more aggressive, etc. Confidence in his stroke. We always knew he could play D, nice to see the rest of his game coming along. Rose with a fantastic night. He seems to play his best when he goes up against the best PG's. Hopefully this makes the Bulls hungrier and they have a nice ASB and come back and just kick some butt!

NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread

Minnesota has also been in every single game conference game with the exception of 1, IIRC (6 conference losses; 5 of those by 5 points or less; only loss > than that was losing by 12 @ Maryland). This 2nd half will be a good test for Iowa's resiliency. Hopefully they can come back and pull out the win. -
Kings made a really great hire in Karl. He has made the playoffs in 22 out of 25 seasons as a head coach in this league, including making the playoffs with all 5 teams he coached with. He really is a ridiculously good coach and it still amazes me that he has been out of the league this long (especially when you saw Denver struggle after he left).

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 11, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) They were not eligible to play for that team. They didn't live in the area. How hard is this to understand. My view is this...the players accomplishments and what they did on the field happened and the players should feel proud about what they did. They weren't aware of the rules, etc, and the view to me is they played their guts out and earned what they did. However, the rules are the rules and everyone needs to play by the rules. The parents need to step up, take blame and responsibility, and show the kids how adults handle things, but nobody should be blaming these kids or taking anything away from their actual performances on the field. The wins were forfeited but in their eyes they know what they did and should feel proud of what they did on the field, imo, but should also learn a valuable lesson as to why you shouldn't cut corners and how you should handle yourself if you do. Instead it seem like too many are blaming everyone else instead of the parents and the league which was responsible for this mess and throwing out all kinds of excuses, etc, which makes the kids actually feel like they were robbed of something, which they weren't.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 11, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) DO NOT GET PRIVATE SCHOOL LOANS! Stick with the government and try to make it work. Pay them off as soon as you can or better yet, do not take out loans for them, get them from your family if you can. Why do you say get the loans from your family if you can? On one hand, I understand but on the other, wouldn't you rather be able to take up some of the assistance programs, etc. to pay back vs. be in debt to family members and / or be unwilling to pay them back. Understand if there is a rich uncle that it is a "loan" but not really a "loan" but otherwise, I would think you'd be better off with the government related programs. I will caveat this as I'm not an expert as I didn't have any student debt. Went to a state school which was very low cost and commuted to college so didn't have any significant living expenses so I was able to pay my school with the earnings I generated working part time.

One of two things. One, people don't think he is healthy, or two, he hasn't gotten an offer he likes and is happy with the progress he's making and thinks he can put on a pretty good showcase when he is closer to being big league ready and get more money than.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) If we didn't buy NFL jerseys that would not stop spousal abuse. If the group that became Isis wasn't able to finance their war by selling oil, they wouldn't have made more than a whimper in Syria. If Saudi Arabia wasn't able to keep itself propped up by oil, they wouldn't be able to feed money to groups like Isis and have a trump card that prevents anyone from reforming them. So are you proposing that we just go back into the stoneage and not use oil (as essentially that is what we would have to do, as we'd have a pretty limited oil resources globally). That said, US would be one of the lesser impacted countries as a whole but I'm fairly certain that would end up resulting in numerous other battles and wars.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) Not really. Not only are you giving up all of his cheapness, you are giving up years worth of minor league players to get him. You are also giving up something on the major league roster to pay for that $80 million. Potentially a deal like that could be the difference between having the room to re-sign Jeff Samardjiza. Also don't forget that this deal does NOT include a major league contract, so you still have to pay him for the six (or more) years before he hits free agency time. Now your total cost is Moncada's contract, 2 years worth of IL free agents, and a #2/#3 starting pitcher, plus any future major league contracts. That is really steep for a 19 year old kid that isn't even major league ready today. 2 years of players we sign over 300K. The reality is that is a relatively small list and you could minimize those impacts as well by signing a few more guys this year (once you broke the pool). If your scouting reports lead you to believe he is a generational type talent, I don't see why you don't do it. Clearly there is significant risk given his age, etc, however, it is pans out, you are talking about a cost controlled player going forward (since the reality is this is something that hits you early on and really means in future years you have a significant asset). You clearly have to weight the risk / reward but that is up to the baseball people who have seen this guy. I haven't seen him play and have no idea how good people think he can be and what they think his floor is, etc.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) I'll believe that when I see it. Given there are 2 games until the all star break, I kind of wonder if they'll just shut him down and be conservative. Would be really big if we were able to pull these next two out and head into the ASB with some positive momentum.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 06:19 AM) Moncada basically has to be Mike Trout to justify it. Not really. If he was an above average player, it would be worth it, imo. If he was a perennial all star, more than worth it. To say he has to be Mike Trout is kind of crazy. If he was Mike Trout, you are talking about a total steal.

For those high on Bickford...I've heard not so nice things about his makeup and how he handled himself during his year at Fullerton. Stuff is obviously very plus though.

Dan..that was absolutely fantastic! Really well done.
