QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) But it's not working. You know what happens when you jump to conclusions based on the preseason...you typically end up looking foolish. I'll go with their overall track record and level of talent. Niners have a tough schedule and injuries to overcome but I expect by the 2nd half of the season, they will be one of the best performing teams in the league. I do think the Seahawks are right now the best team in the NFC. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) I always say go with your best players to start off the season. Wait for trends. If it was a one week league like on FD, then I would say Kaepernick. I've been debating Kap over Brady this week but will probably stick with Brady. Long-term, I have to trade one of those QB's. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) In PPR, Wright > Floyd since Wright caught almost 100 balls last year. Floyd has big play ability though and the higher ceiling. Wright could have some issues with Tennesse looking to have maybe another weapon on offense. Also, you have to wonder whenever you have suspect QB play how well your wideout pans out. That said, I got Wright late in both of my leagues and see him as a value play as my #3 wideout. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) Bears and Bears Because of Tucker and DeCamilis, my faith in the Bears are pretty low. Unlike others, I also am not bought into Emery / Trestman yet either. I don't know that Trestman has what it takes to hold people accountable and be a successful head coach. I do think he's an extremely bright offensive mind and have full faith in him running the offense. Difference between winning and losing is so slim in this league though, so little things matter, and hopefully he can make sure the players and coaches know that and are held accountable. Emery has done a nice job in FA and targeting needs but other then Jeffrey and Long, we've had pretty horrific looking drafts with him. In fact, I think only two guys remains from his first draft. I will say jury is out on a lot of picks from last year, but given what I've seen to date, I think last years class is looking almost as awful too, save Long. I have such little faith in Bostic. -

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 07:51 AM) He' shockingly not bad or annoying. I think the thing I like about him is he seems honest. He calls a football game honestly if that makes sense. What I've figured is people are going to complain about every announcer. By and large I think the football crews are the best in the biz and Aikman / Buck is a really good crew. However, the moose crew is my personal favorite. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) Cam is so feast or famine though. At least it feels like it. Some games he'll get 6-7 points for 2-3 weeks, then get 48 with 3 rushing tds and suddenly it all averages out. I tend to use Cam based upon match-ups (or what I've historically done). He's not my everyday starter. I usually play him against mediocre to poor teams and then against good teams, I look at my 2nd QB or waiver wire for a preferential match-up against a bad D as historically (based upon my opinion from when he's been on my team) he tends to struggle against the better defenses in the league. I think that can be said for a lot of the good, not great fantasy QB's in this league. -

QUOTE (TRU @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 01:56 PM) I don't think Cam has any less weapons than hes had in the past, bottom line is hes been a top 5 fantasy QB every year hes been in the league. I wouldn't feel too bad about him. I definitely know that. I've had him a couple different times and always got great value for him. I just am not as high on him as other "value" QBs given his bum ankle, which I think is going to really limit his rushing ability, which drives a lot of his fantasy value. I think Kap, from what I"ve seen, is an extreme value pick in most leagues. Seems like a lot of people are heavily discounting him and I think he's a guy who has potential to have a great season and can't see him being bad (other then if he's hurt and misses games), given the value his rushing yards will have. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) This is it. The controversy is would Sale throwing 91 in the 7,8 and 9th inning be better than any of the fresh relivers? The answer is the Sale would be but many of the other pitchers would not. So to work with the pen the teams "dumb down" the really good pitchers to the level of the guys who would not be in the league 15 years ago. The supply may be unlimited but the quality of that supply is not. I've always kind of wondered, since starters have a bullpen session anyway on the side, why certain teams have never tried to maximize their talented pitchers and let them have an in-game bullpen session. At least in situations where your teams pen is thin from a couple bad starts, etc. I presume the answer is the bullpen session is far less intense then an in-game session, so it really isn't the same and thus you are adding unwanted stressful innings to the pitcher.

Do the Sox have any plans to honor Adam Dunn next week?

QUOTE (aboz56 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) I suggest a video montage of all his strikeouts before the game, but that might delay first pitch a good half hour or so. -

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) I know its short notice, but Oakland is visiting the Cell for a 4 game series next week. Not sure if Adam's number is worthy of retiring, but it would be nice for the organization to do something for one of the team's greatest home run hitters of recent history. Hope that Brooks Boyer and company are able to put together something which allows the organization and the fans to say thanks to the big guy. To be honest...he's probably one of the least liked players of the last 10 years, so I think you have to be careful here. I don't think anything special should be done. To be frank, he's not a player who deserves some big montage. I'm sure the players will do something and then leave it to the fans to either cheer or boo him. You put a video up saying thank you...I bet there are a lot of boos that come out. I couldn't stand Dunn and it would be unfortunate but on the field he was lousy and against all things I enjoy about baseball. As a dude...couldn't ask for much better a teammate, etc. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) Merkin saying no Rodon or Mitchell. Wow. Thank goodness. I couldn't be happier. While Rodon has had some really nice numbers in the minors, it is clear his command isn't there. I don't want to rush this guy and try to teach him command at the major league level. I want to make sure Coop and our minor league coaches are working with Rodon on the right things so when we bring him up, he's ready for the big time. I think it will happen quickly but I'm very glad the Sox are taking the patient approach. Only reason I'd want him at the major league level is for him to be getting more reps on what he is working on (not specifically MLB reps...just more innings with our coaching staff working on what they are working on).

I am so annoyed. My 2nd league (I have 1 serious league and then 1 league with coworkers) had the draft moved up to yesterday and I never pay attention to emails (especially over holiday weekend) so I woke up this morning to Cam as my starting QB, who I would have never taken had I been in charge. And this is from a guy who likes Cam a lot but I just have a lot of concerns about his fantasy abilities given his bum ankle and the fact that they have zero wideouts. I do have Olsen which is nice cause he should get a ton of targets. Going to be looking to trade for a new QB (preferably Stafford). Team is still solid and the money is usually made on being sly in terms of pick-ups, who you play / sit, etc. I've learned that the more I've focused on the week to week moves, etc, the better my squads have gotten over the years. I'm probably just as lousy of a drafter as before so it might be better when a computer picks for me as it takes my biases out of the situation. Got me some Julio Jones in my 1st league, which I am excited about as I think he's going to have a breakout year. Julio / Dez as my top wideouts is nice but Bush is my top back (betting on a big year out of the Lions offense). I'm tempted to grab and tash Eben as I think he might have a big potential for TD's. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) Why wouldn't they want to get a look at Taylor? I'd actually rather see Taylor get OF at-bats than Viciedo at this point. Viciedo has way more upside and ability then Taylor.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) The limited number of PAs I have seen he reminds me most of Soriano. Both of those guys were pretty darn exciting players.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) The rules are mostly the same, but they now allow "cross flexing" for some games. Bears/Lions on Thanskgiving will be on CBS. If a certain network has a time slot locked, it gives them the option to air more appealing games. Cool. They are a great crew. -
Dunn is a class act and I wish him all the best but I am so so happy I will never have to watch him play for the White Sox again.

CBS airs all visiting AFC team games. With Bears being the home team, you would expect it to be a CBS crew. Maybe CBS hired some of those guys away from Fox? -

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 06:09 PM) Would not trade because at least 3 Sox guys have actually proven they can deliver in the major leagues. Echo those sentiments. Sale, Q, and Abreu have all proven it where as the Cubs really only have one guy who has proven it that is part of that young core.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) 14's are dropping in price like crazy. I wouldn't say December is necessarily the hard and fast, deals on the older model year start hot and heavy as soon as the manufacturer starts putting out the new model year, which can vary. There are a lot of 2015's that are already out. If you wait too late, the deals tend to run dry and it could be harder to find what you want as the inventory on those models gets low. You also should be careful and make sure you get the deal you really want when the new model is out and also consider new model upgrades that could impact resale value, etc. I've seen people buy older model new and then have another friend, same time frame, by newer model and just were more shrewd and actually pay less. Basically put, be cognizant to ensure you are really getting the price you feel comfortable with to justify the older model year vs. newer model year.
