QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 02:00 PM) There is literally zero excuse remaining for Jay Cutler not to have an all pro season this year. If he can't do it this year, he can't do it. Except for being in a brand new offense for like the 4th f***ing consecutive year. Its asinine how much this team has f***ed with him and mismanaged the offense.

Donovan with two goals in his return with the national team as well. I'm hoping he can gel as this is the first time he's ever been able to play with two guys up front that are playing as good as Dempsey/Altidore. This US squad seems to really be gelling but a lot can happen between now and the World Cup (and first we need to take care of business and wrap up the qualifiers).

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) If anyone believes the Lakers would genuinely have given up Kobe, I have a bridge to sell them...but yes, that one was the talk. And if that one could have happened and didn't then that was a mistake. Yes, Harden would look good on the Bulls, but as was just pointed out, the Bulls simply did not have an expiring contract to offer up for him while the Rockets did. The Thunder wouldn't have taken on Deng or Noah because that would have put them in Luxury tax territory this year. From what I always heard the deal was done and Jerry Buss nixed it after having a phone conversation with Kobe last minute. Bulls were going to announce a press conference and a Kobe Bulls jersey had been made.

Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) You skipped DeAza and Lindstrom. A guy like Lindstrom for only $500 K is a bargain, veteran experience, former closer...he's not far off from Jason Frasor, and a much cheaper contract. Frasor was mostly garbage for us. Agree they have value but I don't think they have as much as the other guys.

Somewhere between $13.3M and $14M is what it would take (which is the average of the top 125 players salaries).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:12 PM) $14 million or so qualifying offer I believe. Well nevermind then. I stand corrected on that side. Still, a contender who needs bullpen help would love to have a guy like Crain and healthy, the Sox would get some serious chips. Probalby more then any player not named Alex Rios (who is on the block). Addison Reed would probably command more and Thornton should net you something pretty solid too. Sox suck cause there defense is horrid and they can't execute or hit. Their top relievers (Thorty/Crain) both have extensive value as does Alexei (not top flight value but someone will give up some decent chips for him; no #1 prospect but something solid) and Rios clearly would net you something. Peavy should net you something solid, if it doesn't, you hold onto him. Danks, you might let go and just take the cash savings.

Konerko/Crain to DL - Purcey/Morel called up
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) I agree 100 percent. Now, however, when we do trade Crain for scraps, everybody will say it's simply because of the injury. I think we get cash considerations and a player to be named later for him. Or some minor league fringe prospect. We're talking 2 months of Jesse Crain for goshsakes. Crain is arguably the best reliever on the market. Take a look at the type of returns top relievers have gotten at the trade deadline (and be prepared to be surprised...teams pay a lot for these kind of guys). They command some pretty good talent.

What's the most recent update on Crain?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) What was being offered for Crain a week ago? Dodgers had been very interested. Sox would have gotten a legitimate prospect and another good prospect for Crain. Now...might only be a legitimate prospect. It all depends on when he comes back, the severity, and how he looks when he is back though. If he gets back right after the break and looks good, might not impact things.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) If that's true, we've managed to blow (even if it's terrible luck) 80-85% of what could have gotten in return this season for Floyd, Peavy and Crain if they were all healthy. "If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all." Floyd I won't blame them for. This Crain thing is bad. Overworked and would have commanded a ton. Now you have to hope he gets back so you can deal him. Peavy was a fluke too. Its the risk you take when you don't make deals when they are available, especially with pitchers. f*** this really sucks. Sox could have gotten a really legitimate piece plus another solid piece for Crain.

What's the most recent update on Crain?
This is terrible news. Probably won't get half of what they could have gotten for him a day ago. Hopefully he is ready right at day 15.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) ?? He looked amazing that first game. He was like 25-9-9. Edit: and I think people defend Thibs because he completely turned around a franchise that was f***ing terrible for years. I still think the Bulls would have won the finals that year.

What's the most recent update on Crain?
Don't worry caufield...I too am interested. I want to know if it is anything serious as he is probably our biggest asset.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) Its so frustrating to discuss this. I guess I just dont see why Bulls fans wouldnt want Thibs to critically look at his coaching style and perhaps tweak his regular season use of players. I dont know, where I come from we dont lose and then say "Well were still the best", because scoreboard matters and excuses really dont. So I just think after 3 years of decline, its time to ask, what can be changed to make the Bulls competitive for a title. And while I agree that the Bulls should be more aggressive, take risks, etc. The problem is, none of those risks mean anything if Rose/Noah cant play. So the primary focus really should be: How can we make sure that Rose/Noah are 100% for the playoffs... I don't agree with you that Thibbs isn't an elite coach but I do think you have valid points and Thibbs has to learn to ease up on the minutes of his guys.

I guess the Nets are out. Bucks offering 3yrs / 20 M. That is a lot of coin for Korver.

Bucks offered Korver $20M. Wonder if he still lands with the Nets?

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 08:25 AM) But not the Blue Jays?? (Not that they would ever want him) Its because his contract was agreed to by the Blue Jays. White Sox have never offered him a contract. The no trade clause and the teams listed go back to when he signed the extension with the Blue Jays a number of years ago.

Rios, $1M traded to Rangers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 08:16 AM) All players want to be on a winner and in our situation it has been tough to win. Rios really has a way with words sometimes, he sometimes doesn't come off well, like he's not to blame for anything. Wasn't the situation he was referring to created by the very players themselves? Well, he did say, "we have put ourselves in that position". I thought he came off very well in those quotes.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 06:06 AM) Thibs doesnt have to say anything, he simply hasnt played rookies since he has been the head coach. Taj got a lot of minutes as a rookie Asik played as well, IIRC. However, now that I say that...I realize they both played under VDN.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 09:40 PM) Dwight's last 21 games last year: FG% - 58.8, PPG - 20.0, RPG - 13.4, BPG - 2.9, SPG - 1.2 Lakers won 15 of those games including the last two without Kobe to go from out of the playoff picture to the 7th seed. Yeah, they got their asses kicked by SA. But what chance did they have without Kobe? Dude could've easily pulled a Rose *me not playing until 12756363%* but toughed it out as much as he could through post back surgery and a labrum tear. He's immature as f*** and not really that bright. But he's a beast. Dwight was a top 20 player last year despite being in two new systems, playing with new guys, and coming off of a serious injury and being out of shape. His demise was drastically overrated by analysts around. He'll have a full off-season off this year. I'd still trade for him if I were the Bulls but Houston would be getting a stud. I still won't write the Lakers off though.

WELCOME BACK, JIM THOME!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 06:25 AM) I tell you what, you give me 20% of your yearly earnings and I'll agree that $20 million+ payroll is just a semantic difference. The 20% didn't make the team better.

Jesse Crain dealt to Tampa Bay
Cripes...if something happens to Crain that would really suck cause they should be able to get something really really good for him.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) I think it was you that mentioned this in the other thread, but thankfully the new spending rules are in place for the draft/Intl' signings. If not, the Cubs would have definitely been a top spender. Still...nothing prevents you from dropping 20M this year, take your penalty next year, and then doing it all over again.

Engagement Rings
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) The suit...what did you guys wear? The rental tux? Buy a tux? Buy a suit? Go with a tie? Bowtie? I'm thinking I'm going to buy something...just not sure if I want to go with a tux or with a suit. A suit I will actually use again. A tux will sit in my closet and collect dust most likely. So I am leaning towards a suit... Rental tux. Strongly considered buying a suit but didn't want to make my groomsmen have to. Spent most of our money on the food and drinks.
