Rotten Tomatoes: Worst of the Worst
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) I see T R U's point a little. Some of the movies on the list aren't bad enough to be on such a list. I mean, there has to be worse movies in the last decade than a few of these. I just cannot agree with the Strange Wilderness comment, though. That movie was just painful. Strange Wilderness was f***ing terrible...terrible.

$60 million for Chapman
QUOTE (Cubano @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Oh, the scouts. Tell me their names and the teams they work for. Are these scouts the same scouts projected Alexei having Julio Lugo type power numbers? Moises Alou, when he was the manager of the Giants, said El Duque is nobody to go crazy about. El Duque was running out of fingers for his WS rings. Too bad he waited that long to come. If you compare a photo of Chapman before defecting and a recent photo, you have to realize he has been in the gym quite often. Unlike Viciedo who in Cuba was rumored to be lazy and also did not have a strong defense, Chapman works hard. He was working to improve his control like crazy back home. Only time will tell. Scouts are right and scouts are wrong. Tommy Lasorda traded Pedro Martinez away because he never thought he'd amount to anything because of his size. Lasorda also was the reason the Dodgers drafted Piazza (mainly by being kind). Pujols wasn't a top 5 round draft pick. Buehrle was drafted super late. Bottom line scouts are going to have hits and misses but in general scouts opinions (the consensus) is going to determine the players worth. Once you get your contract, from there on out, its up to you to determine the type of player you will be and what you'll do, but that initial contract is highly dependent on the scouts opinion. By the way, I have zero opinion on Chapman. I've read stuff in BA, etc, and all I know is it sounds like he has an electric arm and I'd love that type of arm in the system. What his true scouting report is, I don't know, but I do know I'd never ever give anyone 50M who hasn't already proven it at the big league level (hell, 20 mill would probably be my cap). Sure that might mean I miss out on the ocassional Ichiro and Matsui, but I'm okay with that.

I just don't see much to like in the movie. If I had kids, I'd definitely go, but I didn't read the book as a child and can't say I'm too interested in seeing it.

FutureSox Post-Season Top Prospects List
QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 08:45 AM) I'm with KHP on this. I'm not sure I see much if any difference in the projectability of Upchurch and Holmberg. Is there something we're missing? Holmberg's a lefty with better secondary stuff, imo. Upchurch made huge regressions this past season and didn't flash that promising of stuff from what I've heard. I'm not writing the kid off and he's got a bright future, but I'd put Holmberg ahead of him. And I'm not putting Torres, Sauer or others ahead of Upchurch on an upside chart (on a sidenote). I lean heavily towards stuff, but Ithink Upchurch, along with Nev, get a little bigger following than they should. Although both are the type of guys I like the Sox to go after (high risk/high reward types). Upchurch was a great pick for when we got him and I do hope it pans out. Santos has a huge arm from the left side and his command is slowly improving. He's got a shot to be a light's out set-up man and Holmberg is a more refined lefty with good secondary stuff and an arm that has been getting stronger. Both passed Upchurch on my prospect scale...thats all I'm saying.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) High 80s fastballs for both Cassel and Long. Wasn't Long supposed to throw harder than that when the Sox drafted him? Long was supposed to throw in the mid 90's.

Jaramillo available
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) He probably makes less than a minimum player. If they thought this guy could make the difference half this board thinks he could, they could eat Walker's contract in a heartbeat. He'll probably wind up in Chicago. For the Cubs.

What's the most awesome haunted house in Chicago?
QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 05:37 AM) We winded up going to The Chronicles Of Hades on Grand Ave off of Halsted. It was really lame but big. I look for more of a fun house mixed in with scary things adn this place was just a costume fest for struggling actors. Jeff...I'll have a date for you and Mario in the next couple weeks for when you bastages will need to fly out to Cali for the wedding. Looking like it will be sometime in May.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) When is the last time there have been so many absolute dogs*** teams in the NFL? Rams Browns Raiders Bucs Chiefs Titans Panthers Bills (underachieving a lot) Lions (getting better though) Redskins That's almost 1/3 of the league. 4 are winless, 2 (Rams and Browns) might not even win a game all year. It is why we are going to see at least a few 9 win teams not make the playoffs and probably even some 10 win teams. There will be quite a few 12 win teams this season, imo.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) Thome's real rusty, I bet. Anyone interested in having him as part time DH/part time hitting coach next season? Why would I want a guy that strikes out a zillion times and has a very very unique swing to be a hitting coach?

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) Actually, as I think about it, another thing that might be hurting Illinois on the trail is the fact that there is a distinct possibility Ron Zook's job is in jeopardy right now. It is why CJ is still going to do a visit at Wisconsin and Iowa. I'd love to get me the best TE in the country in some black and gold.

We Should Sign Nick Johnson
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) And yet he is still proving to be a much superior player to Johnson. What does that say for Nick? Johnson is a very good pure hitter who would be a lesser version of Abreu on this squad. If he's heatlhy, he's flat out a stellar pick-up and instantly becomes the teams best offensive player. So ya, he's a major upgrade.

**Official Twins vs. Yankees Thread**
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) Very true JPN; the Twinks were so overmatched. Yet think of all the times we played them and the Sox seemed to overmatched or at least guaranteed to lose in the dome. Crazy. You could make a very good case that the Twins out-played the Yanks in 2 of the 3 games but just couldn't execute. They weren't at all over-matched.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) The Wisconsin-OSU was an annoying game to watch as a Wisconsin fan. Basically feel that if the offense and special teams could have held OSU to 7 points Wisconsin could have won that game. Iowa- Wisconsin this week should be interesting. I think Wiscy should be ranked. I've also long felt that Iowa and Wiscy are very similar teams and programs. Should be a great game. I hope Stanzi shows up, otherwise I could see you guys beating us by about 10 points. Ultimately it will come down to the defenses though. Can Iowa stop your rushing attack (tough task) and can you guys force Stanzi to have to win the game (I'm hoping to see a good game from Stanzi and above average games from our double-freshman attack).

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) Oh and I'm quietly hoping Iowa can find a way to pull CJ Fiedorowicz out of his Illini commit. The guy is a freaking dumbass for choosing the Illini (who don't utilize there TE or even know how to) over Wiscy and Iowa. With the Illini season turning into a disaster and Iowa likely to put another TE into the NFL (Moeaki), I could see them being able to get Fiedor to eventually buy into the Hawkeye way. By the way, Illini fans, Fiedor will be at the Iowa/Wiscy game and he's also scheduled to visit an Iowa game later on this year. He was at the Illini game this week too. I think he's one of your prizes that will be going elsewhere thanks to the poor season the Illini have put up.

Sweet, Iowa, picked up 2 3 star committs to the Dline this week. It ain't a USC recruiting class but this might be Iowa's best recruiting class under Ferentz.

FutureSox Post-Season Top Prospects List
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) Agreed, i don't understand the inclusion of some of the older AAAA players, over guys like Holmberg and S-Rod. What i got from the intro to the article was that this was a combo of various opinions from a panel. So, it's possible that Santos and Holmberg did recieve votes just not enought to warrant a spot on the top 25. It's understandable, but i don't really agree with it. This is a panel with heavy votes so it can sway things depending on what some of the analysts prefer.

FutureSox Post-Season Top Prospects List
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) That's a pretty good list, but I think a couple names are missing. Santos Rodriguez and David Holmberg are definitely top 25 prospects. I understand they are less advanced, but so is Upchurch and he made the list. Can I ask why Upchurch was selected over the two of them? I'll flat out say that Rodriguez and Holmberg are both two times that prospects that Upchurch is. Both have bigger and better arms and a lot more upside. UpChurch has potential but he's so freaking raw and he's not as good as the other two guys mentioned. It is difficult though because Rodriguez has flaws and Holmberg is very very raw. Upchurch happens to be a favorite of a guy or two on the panel though and that can sway things. Overall its a pretty complete list though and the good thing is there is a lot of reasons to argue because the depth of the Sox system is so much better.
