QUOTE (danman31 @ May 26, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) The Big 12 has been getting some extra love lately. Baylor matches the profile of Oklahoma last year who got in. That pick didn't surprise me. It was a damn good, really deep year for the Big 12. I just don't like Oklahoma State getting in. Baylor did lose like 14 of there last 16 though. A month ago I'd have told you Baylor was a lock but they really sucked ass and I just don't think they were better than some other bubble teams. I do agree that the Big 12 was very very good this year though.

Swisher is currently PITCHING for the Yanks

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 23, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) Even though Dayan has done nothing for the 2009 White Sox? Can't one also say the money that wasn't used to re-sign Joe Crede went to Dayan? How about freeing up Javy's salary? We bought way high and sold low and invested in something else that hasn't return anything to us yet. As much as you play around with stocks I'm shocked you would declare that a "win" so soon. For all intents and purposes you could be right, but bottom line, not resigning Crede, trading Swisher, and moving Javier all had an impact in the Sox getting Dayan. Since I feel we got excellent value for Javier (he's pitching great in Atlanta, but the Sox got very talented prospects in return, how they produce at the ML level, jury is out there, but three guys with major league talent) and were never going to resign Crede it's pretty easy to put Viciedo in as part of the Swisher deal and right now, Viciedo would have a higher trade value than Swisher. So ya, I'm ok with the deal. Would have liked the Sox to have gotten one solid piece out of the trade but I'm glad they freed up the payroll. -
I'm assuming he won't be promoted so I'm hoping the Tigers pick him up and somehow move him to closer, haha.

Look, I don't give a f*** what his OPS is. He's getting on at an acceptable rate and hitting for a nice average RIGHT NOW. Given the other turds we've had at the top of the order I'll f***ing take it. OPS+ is a terrible f***ing stat to look at when it comes to leadoff hitters. Oh and Pods has made a bit of an adjustment and was just stroking singles yesterday with that swing of his. Will it hold up, I don't know, but as of now, he's the leadoff hitter.

Wow, that was one early game.

Definately not Dana Jacobsen.

I can't get past Baylor and Oklahoma State, plus UCI had to get the biggest screw job ever. Same with Virginia. I hope UCI finds a way though. I just don't get how my Titans get such a better seed than UCI, who beat us in head to head and won the conference by a wide margin. And thats not me knocking the Titans, who I clearly feel are a top 5 national team and who consistently play a premiere non-conference schedule.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Tim Weiser, associate commissioner of the Big 12, was the chair of the selection committee this year. UVA did get screwed, but that's why I said that regional is awesome. There is so much talent, it should be fun to watch. However, like you said, if I was a fan of Irvine or UVA, I'd be pissed. I'm in the same boat as zen about UF. A lot of their games were on TV so I was able to watch them and wasn't that impressed. Then again, FSU looked like s*** most of this season too. How in the heck was UCI one of the last national seeds. That alone is a joke, imo. I was pleasantly surprised with Fullerton being the #2 national seed. I like the regional but they pretty much have zero history or experience against any of the schools and anything can happen. Hopefully my Titans can take care of business. Friday I'll be at the UCI regional, assuming I'm able to pick up individual tickets when they go on sale tomorrow.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 24, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) Terminator Salvation Review, by an actual fan of the franchise. Hi, my name is Steve. I grew up with the Terminator... Terminator 2: Judgement Day was one of the films that defined my youth. It was excellent. From this, I went back and watched the original Terminator, and enjoyed it. However, Judgement Day was numero uno. Then came Terminator 3. It was just a movie... a disappointment, but it was Arnold, and it had some nice moments of cinematography. Enter: Terminator Salvation Having heard the negative reviews and going in with expectations moderately tempered, I sat in awe as the opening sequence blew me away. However, I expected this, having heard that this is the best moment of the film. Quick aside... Christian Bale used his Batman voice in this movie. Anyway, some of the holes that folks have pointed to, such as were unfounded as the plotline delivered perfect explanations. Beyond that, they wonderfully paid homage to the past films ( ) Anyone who is a fan of the franchise is going to come away quite happy with this movie. I thought it was downright awesome, and when it comes to films, I can be pretty picky. I kept waiting for this movie to start being less awesome, and it didn't. Sam Worthington definitely showed up Bale in this film... his role was awesome. However, Bale fit the role perfectly. **** out of ***** Yeah, seriously, it was that good. Don't listen to some critics who don't know a damn thing about the franchise. Listen to me. I ended up seeing it this weekend with some seriously tempered expectations because of Soxtalk and left the theatre with a smile on the face. The movie was flat out enjoyable. What I expected, decent story, cool action.

Better chance at winning the Central Division?
Chisoxfn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd have to say the Cubs. -
The Sox won't be in the Bedard sweepstakes. He just doesn't fit what they preach.

Friday at 4...I'm talking to the boss tomorrow.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 25, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) f*** that... UVA and Irvine got screwed. UVA should have been a #1 and Irvine shouldn't have gotten the best #2 in their regional. Unfortunately for Virginia, they have to face Strasburg in Game 1, so that's like an automatic loss. I'm totally going to have to make my way to that game. See Strasburg pitch in my home town.

That was one fun game to be at. Badass job Sox. And way to battle Danksy.

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 25, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) IU has a pretty sick offense, but there's not a ton of depth pitching wise, and defense is sometimes a concern. Arnett came out of absolutely nowhere this year. Unfortunately, I was never able to get out to the park on days he was pitching, so I don't have anything real good for you. However, everything I heard around campus has been echoed in this thread -- hard fastball, not a ton of movement, and not great secondary pitches. The guy I really love on IU's team is Phegley, he's a stud. Hits with power, compact stance, handles the staff real well. Anyone know if Bashore is going to drafted? He was the ace of the Hoosier staff last year as a sophomore, but wasn't quite as good this year. He started off poorly, but he really picked it up in big ten play. Bashmore will be gone within the top 10 rounds, probalby somewhere between 3 and 6.

QUOTE (Cali @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Even though we're playing them tonight, I really feel bad for the Pirates. They used to be such a storied franchise, and they have been just remarkably bad for so long now. They have one of the nicest, if not THE nicest new stadium in Baseball and no fans to pack it. I hope they can put together a competitive team sometime soon, I know they have Pedro Alvarez coming soon, maybe that will help... Alvarez has been atrocious in the minors thus far. No one has hit the panic button yet, but this is his 2nd straight dissapointing season, the first being his final season at Vandy. Oh and I fully would love him in our organization so I'm not writing him off or anything. Clearly still one of the elite prospects in baseball.

The guy is a freaking ace. Filthy stuff and a front of the rotation guy. He might not post sub 2.5 ERA's but the guy is still an ace, whether its the Al or NL cause I truly think that front line pitchers aren't effected as much as mediocre pitchers are by the change in leagues. So f*** yes I want him, only thing I wouldn't buy into are all those freaking opt-out clauses. I'm not giving up 4 prospects, unless the others are of zero value, unless we are locks to keep him for a while.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) Axelrod said that Peavy asked KW some pointed questions. About Dye being traded, Thome's Future, ETC, and was well aware of Danks' and Floyd's potential. IT was also said that Peavy picked up the phone ready to say no, and that KW nearly convinced him. Very interesting and I give Peavy credit. That is the type of stuff you should ask if your in his shoes. Those are the calls I'd love to be on cause it gives you a big idea on the future of the club. My guess is Peavy takes a few days to think about it and at that point its probably on the backburner for good unless Peavy has a change of heart.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) There's like 2 or 3 of our current pitchers that...if they were on the PTBNL list...I can't figure out why the Padres would have wanted them as PTBNL's instead of just taking them now and getting them in to their system (Hudson is at the top of that list)...unless either they think that the guy is an injury risk or they really like our pitching coaches and hate theirs. If Hudson was on the PTBNL list, why in the world wouldn't they have just taken him? THey probably hadn't finished scouting the system so my guess is there were a list of guys they would watch further and than make a decision on. Not too surprising, especially when it comes to lower level prospects as typically its much harder to get a read on them and for the most part opposing organizations probably know less on them as they haven't been around for a couple of years.

Sweet Steve, would appreciate an update of what he says.

Says Bulls want Gordon back.

Very important. As I said, we find out a lot about this club by June 1st, cause it likely puts the Sox in a position of what they are doing. I still think they'll be looking towards next season and beyond.
