This is going to be a deal teams regret and I love Burnett most than probably anyone on this site (cause he has ridiculous stuff). I assume if the Yanks are still going after Burnett that it means the initial rumors were false and that they haven't in fact inked Lowe.

Apparently the Angels offer might be as high as 9 years @ 22.5M (with various options but is at least 7 years guaranteed). In addition, the Angels are mulling over making a 2 year offer to Manny (apparently no team, aside from the Dodgers initial offer, have gone over 1 year for Manny). Tex also has what is believed to be a 9yr 180M deal on the table from the O's and according to Boras all teams that Tex is interested in have made offers at this point and that its possible Tex will sign shortly.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) Unless we plan on giving the Mets Jenks to go with Putz and K-Rod. We don't really have a place for the guy here. Last I looked we couldn't get outs from the pen for an extended period. I believe the club actually has a current hole in the pen. Logan is gone and I would expect one of Richard/Poreda to replace him (with the other potentially being in the rotation). You than have Linebrink coming back from injury and Dotel but I think there is still a potential opening for another reliever (especially if Ozzie goes back to carrying an extra reliever and I'd anticipate such considering how young the rotation will be).

This is a guy who is a bit of smoke and mirrors but he has been very effective when healthy. The only issue is that if he isn't willing to take a one year incentive laden deal from the Dodgers than who would he be willing to take one from. Obviously there are health risks associated with him but it would be a nice depth pick-up for the Sox.

Listening to the news and the Angels apparently offered an 8yr 160M deal for Tex.

Wow Rosenthal is reporting the following: Guitirez is a lot to give up for Heilman, although he should have some value for the Tribe. Still Franklin is a very toolsy guy who still has upside despite this past seasons trouble. Endy Chavez really isn't much of a catch though for the Mariners and while Carp is a decent prospect, I don't see the point considering they are stuck with Jeff Clement (#3 overall pick a couple years back) who is pretty much a first baseman at this point.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) Mets are close to acquiring JJ Putz in a 3 way deal with the Indians as the 3rd team. What? Krod and Putz? One of them is gonna be pissed.

The 06/07/05 Bombings: Never Forget

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) LOL. I remember when Cub fans instantly calling Pawelek one of their top prospects right after they gave him a bunch of money. He was highly highly touted in the draft and most experts agreed that the Cubs had done a great job getting him (there were signability issues surrounding Pawelek). The kid happened to put a lot of stress on his arm though. The bottom line is the Cubs did the right thing, they went after a guy that had the tools to succeed if all went well. The Sox didn't do that with McCulloch and you could make a case that there were some other guys they could have gotten instead of Broadway, however, I would argue that Broadway will have a better career than a number of other first round picks. Broadway didn't have the tools to be an ace, but he had a pretty good arsenal of pitches and could turn into (still to this date) into a #2/#3 starter and I'd be shocked if he wasn't at least a viable #5 starter (at least for some teams). -

I'm liking Lickliter. His system is a bit boring but he's a very good coach and Iowa is playing some solid basketball. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) Ah, the famous pick that turned Keith Law against every front office in the MLB. ? I was stunned when Romero went 6th. I went to Fullerton and watched numerous games and loved Ricky to death as a college pitcher but really had no idea how or why anyone would have projected him as a top 10 pick. I figured he was more of a late 1st to supplmental round pick. He really only had one plus pitch (a nasty breaking ball). But he had a very slight build and didn't have the greatest zip on his fastball. In fact, I'd compare him a lot to JP Howell. -
Dang...I didn't expect to see them make two moves this quickly. Now you wonder if this throws that whole economy argument out of whack.
-
Wow....New York had a ton of money to throw around and they landed the big fish.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) Hahn could be discussing trades. Doesn't Hahn do the majority of negotiations? So wouldn't he be the one talking with the agents for the most part regarding FA's? Or at least that was always my understanding based upon things I've been told.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) Wren came out and said this a few weeks back; Of course that's before he traded Flowers, but Brian McCann was blocking him of course. I was going to say, he's already traded Flowers. He clearly is making a statement but we don't know who he truly feels are his top prospects. Kenny has always said he doesn't trade guys on his 3 year organizational board but he's often traded top prospects and only once or twice has he indicated that the guys he dealt were on that board. And if they aren't going to trade top prospects, don't freaking trade him. Dye has an affordable contract is great in the clubhouse and has been one of the top performing outfielders during his tenure with the White Sox. We are dealing from a position of strength and there is no reason to move him (this is the opposite of the Swisher/Vazquez deals). Although you could make the case that we didn't have to deal Vazquez but after the comments Ozzie made we had to.
-
That is a bogus rumor. The Rays traded Delmon Young for a reason and they aren't about to re-acquire him.
-
How do we know that the Braves wouldn't actually give up Hansen? I don't think we necessarily do, maybe they just wouldn't give up Hansen because of the other members involved in the deal.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Just like Josh Rupe was the "wildcard" when we traded him...or Matt Guerrier was going to be "the next Maddux" according to McClendon and the Pirates' GM at the time. Yeah, they really ripped off KW and gave up that Marte kid, who they weren't even going to keep on the roster because of a numbers game in the bullpen. If Carlos Torres lights the world on fire with the Royals, it will be the first time a young White Sox starting prospect has amounted TO ANYTHING this decade, unless you want to count Brandon McCarthy. Daniel Cortes is a top 50 prospect in all of baseball and was given up for MacDougall.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) Hence why I think Blanco could be an excellent long - term fit for us in CF, if we're still looking for a leadoff hitter. And Frank Wren's not afraid to deal younger players, we've certainly seen that over his time as GM. But Morton and Gorkys could certainly be attainable. Might be time to change your username also. Why would the Sox go from discussing a guy who was a top 10 prospect at a given point in time to talking about a guy like Morton who has a live arm but is pretty much a project. That would be an awful deal for the Sox. You want to make a deal with the braves and it starts with Shaffer or Hansen and potentially includes another guy or two.

These might be intentional leaks to ensure Kenny gets what he wants.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) The Expos were great in the 90's and they do exist- just in another city with another name. Great, I don't think so. They had some talent but I wouldn't exactly say they were a great team. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:11 AM) Baseball - Pittsburgh Pirates. Ice Hockey - Florida Panthers Football - Detroit Lions Basketball - Minnesota Timberwolves Andrew, the Twolves had one of the greatest players to ever play the game for an extended period of time (Garnett). The Pirates actually have been a historically strong team, who collapsed in the 90's. The Lions haven't exactly dominated recently but for the most part the Cardinals would have them well topped. In the NBA you can't even consider anyone other than the Clippers. -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) I'd rather have Tommy Hanson than Bailey...but that's probably not happenin'..... I think its a definate possibility.
-
QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) If this were the case why wouldn't that have been a packaged deal in the last trade? My guess is that at that point the Sox wanted to move Javy and that was there priority just like the braves initial priority was to get a pitcher that would give them innings. Now that both teams have done that the Sox are moving onto there next plan and the Braves are doing the same and that might involve a second deal.
-
THey'd be looking for pitching, but the Braves also have some outfield prospects or a guy like Francouer whose value is down (Kenny likes buying guys whose value is down) and they also have some pitching prospects. Gorky's Hernandez is still very young and the Braves have soured on him a bit as well. I'd like either of the above in addition to a front line pitching prospect for Dye. All that said...Shafer is the guy I'd be targetting. He's been comapred to Grady Sizemore and looks like a very solid major league centerfielder. They also have a lot of raw high ceiling arms in the system.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
