  1. I'd have a lot of interest in Zack Grienke in a deal involving Dye. I doubt the Braves would do that, but they still have quite a few prospects that I would have interest in. I'd also have interest in a package built around Francouer and a top prospect. Yes, Francouer has struggled a bit this past season but tools wise he's off the charts. However, I still would prefer a prospect the caliber of Bailey.
  2. I love Milton Bradley and would take him in a heartbeat, but I don't know if he'll stay healthy playing in the field for the majority of the year. Sounds like Krod has signed a 3yr 37M deal. He'll be disgustingly nasty in the NL.
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) The meetings have just started, but I think you are going to see some FA's fall through the cracks. The demand just doesn't seem to be warrant what some were expecting. Hopefully the Sox can capitalize on their position. The problem is as more FA's fall through the cracks the value of Dye falls. I do believe Dye is the last piece the Sox deal and than you'll see them add some free agents and potentially swing a trade or two where they buy a player. The only guy I can really see them jump after quickly is Furcal though and his value is pretty fair (albeit there is risk associated with his back). Still, a healthy Furcal would be a signifcant upgrade.
  4. I think Kenny wants to get rid of as many vets as he can for a good value early on and than you'll see him target one guy that he really needs and than sit back and sign a vet or two at a discount rate.
  5. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) Jas thats like having a Barbeque in Northern Canada right now. It just dont fit. Funny you speak of bbq's....I actually had one on Friday...made 15lb's of meat (TripTip and Chicken). Oh and I go on vacation starting next Friday and am on vacation till like the 11th of January so your welcome to come out anytime during that span. I'm going to be in Tahoe New Years Eve (your welcome to come and there will be plenty of girls there cause my girlfriend is bringing some of friends who are both cute and single). Just don't come on January 6th (wisdom teeth are getting pulled). Oh and I might be in Vegas on the 19th (again you can come if you want).
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) Frankly, the only 2 guys on the Dodgers roster I'd do Jenks for straight up are Kershaw and Billingsly. I'd do it for Kemp or Loney as well. Those guys are legit talents.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) He's just flat out old. Dye for Bailey + minor leaguers was the deal in place. So this was the deal in place a couple weeks ago and is no longer in motion?
  8. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) 51-60: * 51. Justin Smoak, 1B, Rangers * 52. Logan Morrison, OF/1B, Marlins * 53. Daniel Cortes, RHP, Royals * 54. Jordan Walden, RHP, Angels * 55. Ivan DeJesus, SS, Dodgers * 56. Aaron Poreda, LHP, White Sox * 57. Brett Cecil, LHP, Blue Jays * 58. J.P. Arencibia, C, Blue Jays * 59. Tim Alderson, RHP, Giants * 60. Aaron Hicks, OF, Twins http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb I think it's a really bad list. #53 was an individual the White Sox traded to the Royals in the Mike MacDougall trade. He has a really nice live arm with a good sinking fastball.
  9. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) Gordon Beckham is definitely a top 50 prospect, or at least I know Baseball America will have him there. They missed the boat on Beckham, especially when you see how many of the top picks from this past season they included on the list. I'd say Poreda/Flowers/Viceido are all possibilities for the top 100 with Beckham clearly being a Top 50 prospect. Flowers/Viceido/Poreda all have the ability to climb into the top 50 in time though with Viceido having the potential to one day be a top 10 prospect.
  10. Look at Bailey's minor league numbers. While throwing fewer Fastballs his numbers haven't been awful. Plus he's incredibly young for his league and it is typically a notorious hitters league. He isn't giving up a ton of hits and he's still getting a good number of strike-outs. If he still has velocity on his FB just that and his power curve alone is enough to make him a potential #3 and if all goes well he definately has the secondary pitches to be as good as an ace (assuming he still has his good hard FB which can top in at 95 MPH).
  11. I really kind of want this trade to happen now. I'm really excited at the possibility of all these young arms panning out, plus I'd love to than see Kenny go out and sign an Abreu & Furcal or a Dunn & Furcal. Man would that be awesome. No idea how the team will pan out next year cause with Bailey you have no idea, the rotation might just go up in flames, but man would there be some fun young players on this squad and there I love watching young players develop and perform (hopefully they perform).
  12. Easily one of my all time favorite baseball players and arguably the greatest "pitcher" of all time (and say that using the term "pitcher" in the sense that he flat out knew how to pitch and perfected the art of pitching).
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) I loved when ESPN classic showed the Roger Clemens 20k game. Hopefully Comcast gets this channel in HD ASAP. I love NBATV, but Comcast still doesn't support it in HD. MojoHd used to always pickup the NBA HD games but Mojo dissapeared from my guide a while back and my cable outlet has yet to add in NBAHD, which sucks.
  14. The only one of those that will be a game is the Bama/Utah game potentially. Texas will route Ohio State and I assume USC will beat Penn State by about 2 td's (not a route, but not a close game either). Awful matchups.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:01 AM) Awesome use of the 2 top 10 picks that were gift-wrapped for Eddy Curry. The Noah pick was a stupid pick from day one and Tyrus was a flat out risky pick. I won't be sad at all to see Noah go and in Tyrus' case if he doesn't fit he doesn't fit. Noah is terrible though, terrible. The problem is, those were two lotto picks supposed to fill our so called need down low and neither did jack s***. Pax should be fired.
  16. Laird never got a fair shake and he's actually a pretty toolsy catcher. I'd have loved to have him on the Sox as a backup.
  17. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) dude on WSI says rumor says that encarnacion is in on the deal but we may have to pay half JDs salary...take that FWIW...which is probably very little edit: fixed for accuracy Edwin was once a pretty top notch prospect. Although I see little need for him considering the Sox have two other toolsy 3rd baseman (Mr. Cuban & Fields). However, you can't argue his power numbers and his solid walk totals for a young player and he could be due for his breakout season (last year was a bit of a dissapointment but he still hit 26 bombs, albeit in a hitter friendly park).
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) According to Cowley Jermaine Dye's agent has yet to hear anything about a trade from the Sox and KW isn't talking to the media. I think silence says a lot. I don't think Kenny wants to say anything until it's necessary and right now I believe he's working on something else. It's going to be a real interesting couple days and I think these next few days and this off-season in general (combined with the last two off-seasons) will shape this franchise signifcantly for the next 6-8 years (because I Think the Sox have added so much quality talent in a very short span).
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) My totally inaccurate and spur-of-the-moment Sox starting lineup for 2009 is: 1- Furcal SS 2- Ramirez 2B 3- Quentin LF 4- Thome DH 5- Konerko 1B 6- Abreu RF 7- Fields 3B 8- AJP C 9- Taveras CF That would be a beautiful lineup too, imo. IT would have a nice mix of youth, vets, power, and speed. Plus in a year you can move Abreu to DH if Viceido is ready and slide him into the OF (if Fields has panned out, if Fields hasn't panned out, he takes over 3B and you look to the OF for someone else).
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:23 PM) Right. He is going to use the money in one spot, and that is now either an OF'er or a lead off guy, or both. Truthfully the Sox have two holes...a corner outfield spot and the top of the order (plus CF). If you sign Furcal you kill two birds with one stone (as Ramirez or Lillbridge move to CF with Getz playing 2B). That would than just leave the Sox will one other hole and there are numerous corner outfielders that could be had.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:23 PM) Agreed...everyone needs to remember that Ozzie and Abreu are great friends. Plus I could still see Abreu eventually signing a relatively short-term deal (no it's not what he wants, but he might just end up getting it). I'd love to have Bobby on a 2 year deal and I think he'd be a tremendous fit in the offense. He's still an above average player and can get by in left field defensively.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) The problem then is finding a leadoff hitting infielder. If they have one in mind (ie: Furcal) then Taveras is a valuable commodity in the 9 hole. The key though is keeping him at the bottom of the lineup, he has no business at the top. I could totally live with Taveras as our 9 hole hitter. I'm not opposed to 9 hole guys that can bunt, hit for relatively high averages, and steal bases while playing solid center field defense (in fact, compared to Swisher, Taveras would be pretty nice out there). The Sox would have a hole in the corner outfield but they could always just give that job to Viceido and see what he can do or get one of the FA guys out there to eventually agree to a 1 or 2 year deal (ie an Abreu/Burrel/Dunn/etc). Basically whichever one is sitting there come the middle of January.
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) He's also 2 years older than Jermaine, an awful defender and would cost the Sox a 1st round draft pick. Abreu would be a much better pick-up but the best pick-up would be Adam Dunn. A 3 to 4 year deal with him sliding into Thome's DH spot a year from now. The best part is you might just be able to get him to agree to a 4yr 32M deal with some incentives (given the current market conditions).
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) If this trade was 1 for 1 and the Sox don't spend any of the savings, its a horrible trade, but there is no way that money won't be spent. Completely agree with you. If the deal turns into Dunn/Abreu/Furcal (at least one of those three) and Bailey for Dye than I'd be exstatic.
