QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) Avi has proven a pretty useless major league piece at this point. He is weak hitting, atrocious fielding corner outfielder who doesnt walk and strikes out a bunch. He has been below replacement level for his career thus far. I would rather have the "proven veteran" with the 100 pt higher ISO manning a position that requires you to be a power hitter. Avi needs to improve - and he certainly may. He needs to pull the ball some. Sox would rarely develop a young player given the patience for them in these parts. But I've seen so many of these veterans on their even or downward plane, immediately trend downward fast. The contract is heavy and he'd cost more than Avi. Patching with veterans has failed miserably.
  2. Excellent. One of my favorites. Don't know how good he is, but just like the way he pitches and mound presence based on the youtube videos.

Trade for young players? Develop young players. Like Avi, before jettisoning him for that "proven veteran" Bruce is a good hitter, but a)will it continue and b)his D is average. Better than Avi, but average. The Sox farm system hasn't been overly productive, but it's been a lot more productive than Kenny Williams' trades for those "proven veterans".

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) The Reds want to trade Bruce to shed salary and you're going to to offer them two underperforming guys that would significantly increase their payroll? i.e. he believes (wisely) that we should not trade for Bruce.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) I know a lot of people are a hard pass on Bruce, but this might be a good time to strike on him. His stock seems to be down and the Reds are not interested in paying any of his remaining salary. When I look at him versus our current RF situation, Bruce has a better ISO, BB%, better wOBA, and much better defensive defensive metrics than Avi. I realize he is a strikeout machine, but this team is in desparate need of power/offense and improving their holes on defense. If a package might be able to be centered around Avi and a prospect, I think this is something that the Sox should look at. No If it fails the first time, keep doing it again and again so we can keep on failing.
  6. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 08:50 AM) Kinda surprised unless done as a favor to him. Had been pitching well of late except one outing. With teams looking for pen help hoped we could have gotten low level prospect or international pool money. Doubtful - he's been terrible since 2012. Rangers released Feliz and the Royals Frasor for nothing and they've been more productive.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 06:12 AM) with all due respect, i know you said hope, i disagree with your idea. Q has still put up good numbers, yeah he has been snake bitten by some horrible luck. Shark, is going the fa rt, no matter what is said and done. unless the sox comes up with a 25 + mil offer, he is not resigning. I agree - Q fits this team - he's a ground ball pitcher. Shark doesn't. I don't think he gets $25 million, though Move Shark soon - it's a seller's market NOW....but it may not be in 2 weeks. Get Erik Johnson up here and see what he can do.
  8. QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Adam LaRoche's batting splits for 2014 from Baseball Reference: 1st Half:.279/.383/.457 (BA/OBP/SLG) 2nd Half: .236/.336/.453 Fangraphs suggests that Jose Abreu as a better fielder at first base than Adam LaRoche. LaRoche is here to paper over the fact that the Sox organization does't have any LH power in the pipeline. Here is a summary of our offensive woes using OPS+ (thru Saturday's game): OPS+ Player Starters 136 Jose Abreu 103 Adam LaRoche 101 Avisail Garcia 99 Adam Eaton 90 Tyler Flowers 86 Melky Cabrera 82 Conor Gillaspie 64 Gordon Beckham 56 Alexei Ramirez 31 Carlos Sanchez Bench 97 Geovanny Soto 94 JB Son Beckham 83 Micah Johnson 55 Tyler Saladino 1 Emilio Bonifacio Looking at the raw data, I could see the Sox playing Soto more frequently than Flowers over the next 2-3 weeks. Although Alexei Ramirez is showing some signs of life over the last 2 weeks (.306/.342/.361) and I like what I've seen from Tyler Saladino during the Cubs series, the White Sox need to find some help for catcher and the left side of the infield. Based on that data, they need help at LF more than catcher. And I agree with the data - Sox could use a quality OF. I wouldn't give up Flowers' pitch framing for those few OPS points.
  9. That Friday meltdown looks like it devastated the Tigers. They had beaten Minny on Thursday, had the game well in hand on Friday, and then WHAM. they lose the series. Tough game. Tigers might decide to sell.
  10. What they should do is sell high on Shark before Friday. What they will do is overpay for a dead veteran.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Other than Samardzija though, they don't have anything to "sell". They'd probably deal Ramirez or a reliever. That's it though. Just that should help a lot. The market for starters is tight right now, but will loosen up. But Samardjiza's value won't be higher than it is right now. Supply will go up prior to 7/30 and I doubt he throws another shutout. Deal him before Friday.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Espn article from last night Doesn't make any sense. You send down the starting 3b? And if he isn't the starter, why was he staring for 3 straight games. Not to mention the useless Bonifacio is on the roster.
  13. 3b, SS and 2b are far greater offensive weaknesses than Flowers. LF and RF are positions where the Sox are about equally weak, relative to position, as the Sox are at catcher. I remember the clamor for the "elite" Jason Castro, the Starlin Castro of catchers.
  14. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) SP is a strength, you can trade one of those guys and not skip a beat. You keep your big 4 of Sale-Shark-Q-Rodon and also add a bat to the fold. Not sure how you can say that would be a sure fire way to 73 wins. You could trade anyone in the farm and not skip a beat this year. Don't devalue an asset just because you don't need him today. Undervaluing assets, such as trading a top 100 prospect for an average bat, is a sure-fire way to return to 73 wins. Sox will need pitchers (2 of them) for next season. Stockpile the pitching. The Sox should be working on a trade of Samardzija anyway. Sell high, for a change.
  15. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) That's why if I'm the Sox and I'm within 3 games of the wild card, I'm trying to trade guys like EJ, Mantas, Danish, Petricka, and Putnam for a big league bat. You fill a hole or 2 with even average players and it's a whole new team. Productive prospects for average bats.....That's a sure fire way to 73 wins again. Montas is a top 100 prospect and looking better all the time. EJ probably could be in this rotation right now. Can't trade those 2 for an average bat. To rent Upton, perhaps (although I wouldn't). Danish is not my cup of tea, but he's being underavalued for an average bat. Petricka and Putnam - fine, except we need them. Petricka particularly fits this team with his groundball ways. Trade Leury and some non-descript A ball prospect for an average bat.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) Uh oh, there was a Noesi siting last night for 2 innings, lol. And 2 good ones. The Cooper project lives!
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) Yep. Bonafacio's .151 BA and questionable D bring nothing except for speed. Conor brings a LH bat with a little pop and could serve well to PH late in games. Beckham brings Defense, a little pop with a RH bat. The Sox already have Shuck as the 4th OF who plays nice D and has some pop. Boni is the odd man out. If the Sox need speed, Leury is just a call up away. Bye bye Boni. Speed? It doesn't even use it well. He should have been called out on Friday, when anyone who knows how to slide would have been safe easily.
  18. Bonifacio clearly should be dropped. He hasn't played much in 2 months. Gillespie can actually hit a little. Bonifacio isn't even a particularly good runner.
  19. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) He is starting the AAA all-star game and they are trying to limit his innings a bit (I assume so he can come up eventually to be in the rotation) That explains it. Thought all of those all star games happened last month.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Good call man. I think Masterson and Kelly are along the lines of what the cubs are looking for and Buchholz left last night's game with tightness in his elbow which could limit the pitching market even more. the Red Sox, however, are more in the race than the White Sox are. They can win that iffy division....Sox have no chance to win its division. I'd think Red Sox would be marginal buyers. And they need pitching, contenders or not.
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Bruce Levine and his merry band of morons need to remember that it's the Sox that have (Samardzija) what some contenders covet and therefore it's the Sox that have all the leverage, not the other way around. Yes, that Comp. Pick and the Sox sitting marginally in the wild card hunt give the Sox a good bit of leverage. Those Cubs trade packages don't seem that bad to me for a rent, but you do have to discount the Theo hype factor from all Cubs prospects, so I am not sure.
  22. I see Erik Johnson was pulled out of 47 pitches. That suggests bullpen. What's the plan - for him to replace Carroll as Danks' caddy? Davidson is walking 15% of the time and will hit 20+ homers. There's something to work with there.
  23. The other guy the Sox sent in the Myers trade is about the same age and looks fairly similar, although in AA.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) i don't know if it is me, but he is still really raw. he still has time to continue to grow. I agree with you. he needs to show more power though.
  25. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 06:15 AM) Almonte for Beckham. Blackmar and Chalas for DeAza Delmonico we picked up after he was released (by the Brewers?) They all look interesting, esp. Almonte. But the K totals are low on each ....can't expect more I suppose for Beckham and DeAza
