Fangraphs Free Agent Predictions-Dave Cameron.
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 07:52 AM) His guesses last year for the Sox ( C. Rasmus , C. Young (0F) and K. Morales) turned out way better than who the Sox pay to make those decisions.Cheaper too. Boy,no doubt about that. One of these guys, maybe Law, suggested a team pick up YOung and Para and platoon them in left.

White Sox make qualifying offer to Jeff Samardzija.
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) Sox should get someone at least as good of a prospect as Spencer Adams. Maybe even better. They'll have 2 top 30 selections. One at 10. Another in the late 20's. Put in that light, I agree that we didn't lose a huge opportunity in not dealing Shark. Well, probably the best opportunity was lost when we didn't deal him after the Blue Jay series, as some suggested we should. That is when when he reached his peak in front of a dozen scouts and a team that needed a starter.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) Let's not forget how valuable dominant relievers are right now. Exactly. The odds are that a dominant young reliever is a lot more than the Sox will get from a comp pick.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) Leury's are a dime a dozen. If there's space for him, fine. If they need it, he should be first to go. No reason to keep your third best utility infielder protected if it means leaving an actual prospect exposed, or losing a chance at a more valuable player. One would think so. But the Sox spent $8 million on 2 Leurys last year. And Phillips' aren't exactly in short supply. It's hard to believe that Robinson Leyer is up for Rule 5....he was in A ball in 2014. Must have been a really slow mover up the ladder. Sox moved him up fast last year, and to the pen if I recall, probably in anticipation of Rule 5- seeing of they could do anything with him. Even given the Sox org's enduring love for medocre veterans, I'd still think the Sox would protect a young hard thrower over Phillips.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 7, 2015 -> 06:36 AM) Dan Hayes is suggesting we'd lose our comp pick from Shark if we signed a free agent that received a QO. Anyone know if this is true? And he's correct. Another reason the Sox shouldn't sign a FA with a QO. There are few who fit in our price range anyway.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) I don't agree with that opinion, but this article clearly doesn't reflect his RECOMMENDATIONS, instead they reflect his GUESSES. Edit: Wow typos I wasn't speaking of this article per se. Check out his chats.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-top-50...nt-predictions/ Cameron has the White Sox bringing back Alexei Ramirez on a 1 year deal for $6 million. He also has them signing Howie Kendrick, Chris Young (OF), Alex Avila, and Mat Latos. Absolutely not. No, No Maybe No On a side note; I didn't think anyone could be as smug as Keith Law, but Cameron smug trumps Law by a mile.

Arizona Fall League
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 05:25 PM) Just using the law of averages, the Sox are due to have a guy like Engel and a few more actually break out, aren't they? Ha! One would think.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) Sanchez probably is, Saladino probably isn't. Maybe not, but just as soon let him play SS as these less than exemplary FAs.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) They have three - Saladino, Sanchez and Leury. With Leury being far and away the weakest of the bunch in overall value. His hitting is atrocious on a special level, and frankly his defense isn't that great either. He's got more speed than either of the others, but has no other advantages. No reason to keep him. Saladino and Sanchez are starters.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) Is there anywhere we can look at possible rule 5 players from other teams? For the Sox, I dont think they need to protect Leury, Kevan Smith, or Daniel Webb. I would protect Tago, Phillips, Smith, Wendelken, and Jaye. All of those guys have some use. Smith, fwiw, is our most advanced catching prospect. WEbb has had a lot of time in the majors, and he's done well at times, albeit inconsistently. And Leury certainly can be an effective utility player; he hit a little better last year as well. The Sox spent $8 million or so on 2 utility stiffs. They are going to need one of these types.

White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez
Why would any team reject a $10 Mill option, only to make a 15M QO? I know it's hard to believe it now, but Sox life will go on without Alexei. The org. will find a way to endure.

White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez
Please just let him go. Set Alexei free.

My/Your Off Season Plan
anyway here's my suggestion, which is sure to be met with applause! (Or not). Trade Eaton and Melky to the Padres for Norris, Solarte, Ross and a prospect. Trade Q to Redsox for Bradley JR, Chtistian Vasquez and prospects. 2 holes plugged (albeit no better than plugged) and a killer OF defense with 2 guys who can cover ground and Avi's arm. Need to add a power bat, although I don't know what to do about Laroche. Could eve re-sign Alexei at half price now that the other 2 clowns are gone. Saladino the utility guy.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) Yeah I don't get that either. I also don't get the comp to Phegley. Norris is much better against lefties than righties. Like Phegley, there are ongoing criticisms about his D and his pitch-calling. His OPS was barely 700. And when you want to trade away a young 2B who can hit, a CF who did nothing but rake and play great D, Norris must be a hero. There can be no other explanation to pay that kind of price. Most teams would use Thompson and Micah...the sox have so little creativity and the manager so limited in skill, that they don't know what to do with them except assign Thompson as 4th OF. Both have skills well above the Sox median...find a way to use those skills. (Micah can hit; Thompson can defend and might be able to hit- at least he has so far)

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) The White Sox seem to be waiting until the last minute to announce what they are going to do with Alexei. Makes me think they either trying to get him to sign a lesser contract. It is at least worth a shot. Just let him go. He's an aging, declining player, and makes too many mental errors. Why they want to hang onto him like he's special is mind boggling, except that the sox are a ridiculously sentimental and hero-worshiping organization. Sox need a culture change.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 04:43 PM) Trade SP Erik Johnson, RF Avail Garcia, 3B Trey Michalczewski, OF Courtney Hawkins, and SP Tyler Danish to the Reds for 3B Todd Fraizer and SP Nick Howard Trade OF Trayce Thompson and 2B Micah Johnson to the Padres for C Derek Norris not to be flip, but the suggested massive overpays and chasing heroes is exactly what the Sox should NOT do. Norris is essentially Phegley from the different side of the plate. Todd Frazier had an OPS of c .650 in the 2nd half. His home/road splits are gigantic as well. He's the precise type player that the Sox should avoid. Plus, the price you suggest paying is what an elite player would command. Under no method of analysis is Todd Frazier an elite player. In the end, the Sox still have a poor defensive team, with a substantially weakened farm, and filled 2 holes with okay, not great, players. Not a contender. Upton is a good player, but not a great player. Pass on 7/140. Defense, bullpen, young players is the ticket. Sox need to add young talent, not dump it for over-rated heroes. Go after FAs when the foundation is set.

My/Your Off Season Plan
The real problem with the Cubs/Sox trade proposals is that the Cubs don't have what the Sox need. Sox need an athletic defensive outfielder, young C and 3B. The Cubs have none of the above to trade. Oh sure the Sox could use a DH. But in this day and age, you need one who has a position. And the Cubs aren't trading Schwarber anyway.

Sox have asked Indians about Sandy Alomar Jr
QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) I dont think anyone is arguing that. The point I'm making is I think they'll have to go pretty far down the list because of the position they have put themselves in with Robin's status. Agree. It's ridiculous they way that they handled this.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) Certainly possible. To be honest, I'd rather have Alexei at 2/3 the cost of Desmond. I'd rather have Saladino at 1/20th of the cost of either.

Alex Anthopoulos quits as Jays GM after turning down extension
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) Well, he would be in the same exact position with Shapiro as KW with Hahn. Feels he's earned more respect and freedom than that level of oversight. That's probably right. Maybe even worse. There are those who say that Hahn is making baseball decisions. Frankly, I'm disappointed that Shapiro is leaving the Central. Tribe weren't exactly ominous during his stint.

MLB trade rumors mentioned Sox at potential destination for Wieters
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) We can make excuses for a lot of things, but over 7 minor league seasons he hit .241 with a .319 OBP. He may be the rare guy that does better in the majors than the minors, but the odds are against it. No reason not to find out. It's not like he hit .660 OPS and we're saying "he's young and could improve." If the Sox won't play a young player who raked like he did AND is far better defensively than anyone in the OF, when will they go into a season confident with a young player?

MLB trade rumors mentioned Sox at potential destination for Wieters
Lucroy Build the organization, please. Get solid at 3B, SS, 2B, LF, RF, bench, set up man in pen, and then talk about throwing prospects at heroes. As for Fowler. Do people really want to weaken this atrocious OF defense even further? File him in the same Cubbie hype file in which "Starlin CAstro was great in 2015" resides.

Ian Desmond: Perfect Buy Low Candidate?
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) By all accounts, Desmond had an atrocious season last year for a guy coming off 3 straight 4+ win seasons. He failed to reach the 20/20 club for the first time since 2011 and was a butcher with the glove. I still think the Nationals might offer a QO to him, but does anybody think he is one of the best bounce back candidates of this FA class? His second half line bounced back quite a bit to the tune of .262/.331/.446 which is above average production from the SS spot. There is a great deal of risk involved in a long term contract with him, but if he could be had for $14-15 MM a year over 4 years, I think it's something the Sox should contemplate. That would give you the ability to slide Anderson to 2nd or move Desmond to DH if his glove continues to slide. If he gets a QO, he's not a buy low candidate. But, yes, if the price really were low, take him. Sox have no business throwing away draft choices like they did last year.
