Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
I agree with this except for the 28-29 part. It’s not a Jerry issue. We need more good position players and we have two guys coming up who look like they could be Lefty aces.

Ryan Fuller Hired as Director of Hitting
Getz has done more for the infrastructure of this organization in a year than his predecessor did in a decade +. Admittedly, the comparison is a ridiculously low bar, but I think the Sox will make the playoffs prior to Getz' year 8.

G.M.'s meeting preview...
Good pitcher, reasonable price. He'll help the team try to be respectable, at least until July when they can move him. They should grab several players like that.

Venable named new Sox Manager-per Merkin
Chuck Tanner is the best manager the Sox have had since I started following the team as a kid in 67. But he was aided immensely by Hemond’s work in the 70 and 71 offseasons. We need some of that out of Getz. He’s got to make some trades, but he just can’t let the other GMs lead him around by the nose like the Dodgers and Cardinals GMs did.

Managerial “Search”
Gene Lamont managed the Pirates.

LV Raiders are the White Sox of the NFL
The Sox remind me of the Saints. Both won titles a while back. Saints have had more playoff success, but in the last few years, they've drafted poorly, retained and signed declining players (sound familiar?) and are in cap hell. Both are in the deepest holes in their respective leagues. And lucky for me, they are my 2 favorite teams in pro sports (Sox #1).

Managerial “Search”
Just interviewing the bench coach of the Royals indicates a flawed process. Along the same lines, what is Phil Nevin doing in the interview group this time around? (To be fair, perhaps he isn't; I just saw his name on one of the lists). The other guys look like the type of candidates that we should be interviewing.

How the Sox went from 12th in fWAR/talent to last
Getz' big gaffe was basically giving away 1.5 years of Kopech and Fedde. And the real cost was opportunity cost: he should have gotten some good young talent back for those 2, and he didn't. The Bummer trade was blah. How could he whiff so badly on Fletcher with Barfield having worked for Arizona? Opinions vary on the Cease return. But otherwise, he mostly chose the worst player between 2 marginal players. He should do better than that. But he hasn't given up any long-term young talent that I can see. But look at the high WAR players on the list: that is the devastation wrought by Hahn. And Tatis and even moreso the Semien trade were so poorly intended that the Sox had very little chance for benefit even at the time the trade was made. Now Getz has been here barely over a year, so he may yet match Hahn in total devastation, but this is a summer rainfall compared to the typhoon that was Hahn.

FFS This would be so par for the course.

It makes a lot of difference.

2024 Playoffs - NLCS/ALCS
You're probably right about that. Mets got really hot (and they're not the perfect team either). Damn Tigers are going to be hard to take down.

2024 Playoffs - NLCS/ALCS
The Phillies remind me of the White Sox teams of 83, 21 (and 93 to a lesser extent); something was missing and you could feel it all season. In the Sox case, not the most athletic teams and the bullpens weren't always first rate.

How can they even catch Minn in 3-5 years?
The Royals did it off of their 50-something wins. They have one great position player. Perez had a solid rebound. A couple of other decent hitters. And that's it. It will be imperative to get a manager on board who is a)a good manager and b) has an excellent reputation. No clowns from the Pirates or anything.

How can they even catch Minn in 3-5 years?
They didn't do squat with their high draft picks anyway. Robert rebounds, Montgomery is the real deal. 1/2 of Fletcher, Ramos, Sosa, Lee, Vargas, DeLoach, Elko turns into average players. That's a start.

The Mystery of Luis Robert
What are they going to do with him? Trade him for pennies on the dollar? Better off praying he rebounds.

How can they even catch Minn in 3-5 years?
I don’t know. I don’t think it’s gonna be that hard. Get three or four really good position players, surrounded by average players and make sure the pitching is sound; that gives you a chance. The thing is the White Sox head zero average players this year. Not one. Oh maybe Benitendi if you really stretch the definition.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
Crochet obviously. Wilson, I guess. Maybe DLS and Foster. That’s it.

Farhan Zaidi Out - Buster Posey In...
Zaidi seemed to be ultra-conservative to me; he just didn't seemed to get involved in the trades and FAs like the Dodgers, Padres and even the D Backs did. His former #2 is doing okay in Detroit, though. Posey will be interesting. Refreshing to have a baseball guy in charge.

Fangraphs Article About Managerial Candidates
I like Sizemore, but no. But we could do worse. Mattingly is a little to retreadish for my tastes. I like the Dodgers guy.
-
is the norm still
Can you do a thorough interview of a managerial candidate, when he’s coaching his team in the playoffs? I’m really not interested in the Sox hiring the bench coach of the Reds. The guy for the Dodgers sounded pretty good to me. Hope they give him a long look which may require the playoffs to be over.

Crochet open to extension...
Well, 2-4 war hitters are the bread and butter of most of the playoff teams. Right now we don’t have any, so get a few of those. . And by young hitters, I mean close to the majors prospects. And if that’s the way, the market is, stop drafting pitchers in the early rounds.
-
Crochet open to extension...
They need to trade him. It has nothing to do with cheapness and all of that. They need young hitters. Now if Getz really needs to step up with the trade execution. if necessary, deal with the 2nd and 3rd rate GMs (he was no match for the first-rate guys, although Anthropoulos was at least honest with him and didn't try to take advantage).

Sox @ Tigers Delayed Start on now, Game 2, Avoiding 162?, Burke
1 more win and its the '62 Mets, not the Sox, with the worst record in Modern history.

9/26 Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1:10PM - final home game
Flexen was signed to be the 5th starter on a bad team. Ends with a 4.95 ERA. Have to say that he did his job.

9/26 Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1:10PM - final home game
Yes, the pitching is just bad. The offense is what is historically awful. The OPS of the 29th offense is closer to number 13 then we are to number 29.
