Actually - yes, they are. Maybe when Robbie is hurt, they aren't but hell, I'll take Crede over the way Robbie is playing now, and that isn't saying much. I'll take that back. Robbie is one of the best bunters on this team. If we were in the playoff race, he'd be a nice backup off the bench in case we needed a key sac bunt. That's it. If his injury is causing him to hit sub-.200, he ought to be on the DL. Give Valdez some time up...

Phil Rogers: Rangers might ask for Garland

Soriano doesn't come anywhere near solving our problem of having too many power hitters, and not enough contact hitters. Plus, we'll have another question mark going into the season as far as the fifth starters' spot is concerned - which has been, essentially, the spot that has cost us the division the past four years... I guess if Diaz steps up and shows he can be a fifth starter, I'd do it. But - I don't see Soriano as a leadoff hitter. He has a career .322 OBP... If he's our leadoff man, we're going to be in a lot of trouble... Plus he's pretty poor defensively. -
Konerko, chuggin towards 40 homers. Way to go, Paully Walnuts!

Felix looked good against Oakland, too - well, not after the poor start of the first three innings. He seemed confident up on the mound, for whatever reason. Plus, he started pitching the hitters up and in, and that seemed to set up his changeup a lot more too. Hopefully Felix can fnish the season off very well. Go Felix!

For those who care, here's my team, what do you think? (Starters in bold.) QB - McNair QB - Pennington QB - Brunell QB - Fiedler RB - Alexander RB - C Brown RB - Staley RB - Foster RB - Minor WR - C Johnson (CIN) WR - K Johnson (DAL) WR - Lloyd WR - R Williams (JAC) WR - Calico WR - Evans TE - Jones (ARI) TE - Clark (Someone help me out. Should I start Clark or Jones? Jones is @ ST LOUIS, Clark is vs. Detroit) Here's my logic - first off, I really like my starting QBs. I like McNair, as well as Pennington who is awesome in the red-zone. Brunell should do well in Joe Gibbs' offense, with a TON of weapons. Fiedler - meh - he's a backups'-backup. My halfbacks are iffy, but Brown was one of my big sleepers going into the draft. I really think he's going to have an awesome season, catching and running the ball. I like Staley because he's going to be the feature back behind an excellent O-Line at Pittsburg. Minor - meh - I picked him only because he's going to start and should get some touches. I figure Foster will get at least three - five starts this year, because I doubt Stephen Davis will hold up for a whole season. Plus, I really like Foster, ever since he was drafted. Besides Chad Johnson, most of my WRs are sleepers who I'm really banking on. I think Lloyd will be the featured WR in San Frans' offense, and I think Keyshawn will be Vinny T's favorite target, as he was in the preseason. I really like Reggie Williams - he might turn out to be the best Williams out of he, Roy, and Mike. Calico and Lee Evans are major sleepers for me. Calico will be the number 2 receiver in Tenn, and same with Lee Evans in Buffalo. And finally, my tight ends are mediocre. I think Desmond Clark will be one of the biggest passing weapons in the Bears offense this year, that's why I picked him. I think Des will rack up a lot of TDs in the redzone, too. I'll take a kicker later, there's a ton of them available for FAs. What do you guys think of my team, and who should I start at TE week one?

Hmm - I don't mind the cut of B-Rob at all. He really isn't a stud DT, and it will be nice to just cut Tank and Tommie loose and see what they can do. We're going to be really young on defense, but you never know how good/bad a young team will perform. Hopefully, the leaders on this team like Mike Brown, Brian Urlacher, and Alex Brown will be able to step up and lead this defense. -
I'm down for a league. I say we do this. If we don't get enough people for an online league - like say we get 12 people. Set up three divisions, four teams in each division. You play every team in the league once, and every team in your division twice (so 14 games, if my math is correct). Playoffs are five teams, two WC teams, and the team with the best record with the bye week. Thoughts?

I agree. Plus, I hate to keep harping on it, but Jon is only 24 - and still providing pretty good numbers for a fifth starter, which he will be next season. Soriano is the type of player we need least - he'll hit his home runs, but then he'll strike out over 100 times. We need OBP and contact, not a guy who barely makes contact. Especially not at the expense of a pretty solid, young, cheap pitcher. -
Damn, Steel, what's with all of your varied team selection? You like the Avalanche, The White Sox, Kansas State, and the 'Phins... How the hell did that come to be? Anyways - Ruutu, Vandermeer, Thorton, Barnaby, Brown, Nichol, Bell, Keith, Calder - hell, even Babchuk - are all able to play a gritty game, and a bunch of those guys will even throw down the gloves if needed. We don't have one true enforcer, but Thorton is a damn good fighter. Like I said, at the very least, we should be able to play a tough game. Hopefully that will lead to a more aggressive team, which will be better for all of us.

How do you say his name, Rex, if I may ask? I've been calling him 'Baiy-air-no'. My brother has been calling him 'Baj-en-ar-o.' Which one is it? I realize that in my saying, I don't pronounce the 'n', so that's probably wrong...

Am I the only one who wants to see someone who can hit the hell out of lefties in here? Our record vs. lefties is garbage this year. I've never seen a team that has so many righties in it just fizzle out against lefties... I haven't looked at a free agent list, but it would be nice if we can find a hitter who can platoon with another player that is able to kill lefties...
-
Boy, it sure would be nice to have Honel return to his old form. I haven't really payed attention to the whole situation at all this year? What was the problem with his arm, and is it likely he'll be able to return to his old form? Or is it just a coinflip now?

Ugh, I was there too. Three things stick out in my mind from that game: -Before the game, the Eagles jumping up and down on the Bears logo at midfield. Mercy, the Bears should have knocked the f*** out of them just for embarassing our team like that... The whole stadium was booing them so friggin' loud, it was crazy. Some of the guys looked like they were going to jump out on the field and kick some ass, lol. -Ahmad Merrit with the huge reverse run. I don't know why I remember that, it just got the crowd so pumped up, and was one of the few bright spots of the game. -Ugh - the nail that went into the Bears' heart, as well of the city of Chicago's heart - Donovan McNabb dunking the ball on the goalpost. We'll get those Philly f***s back in week four... Donovan, meet Adawale! -
So what, Ozzie still shouldn't act like there's a bat up his ass. For goodness sakes, so few things have gone right with this team, it's not like Harris is going up to the plate every time looking for the longball. For whatever reason, it seems Ozzie and Harris don't seem comfortable together. Maybe I'm way off on that assumption, but it just looks that way...

That's awesome. I'm looking for a ticket for the game next weekend, but the cheapest I can find is 175. I'm willing to dish out good money for a ticket, but not that much. You'll have an awesome time if you go. Bears games are so f***ing awesome, especially when the Bears play well. -

Cuts will have this team down to a 53 man, final roster by 3:00 PM Central tomorrow. A couple of the interesting developements: Someone has to go in the secondary. We should only keep nine or so, yet we have: Tillman, McQuarters, Azuuuumah, Vasher, McMillon, Duff, Brown, Green, Worrell, Johnson, Gray. One of the safeties is definitely going to go. None of the first four will go, Mike Brown definitely won't go, and it's unlikely the versataile (can play nickel back or safety.) Mike Green will go. Also, Adrian Peterson or Brock Forsey? In my mind, Peterson deserves to be the number 3 back on this team - hell, if you can find a good deal to trade Anthony Thomas, I'd be all for Adrian as our number two halfback. The defensive line has a lot of bodies, and considering the coaching staff seems enamored with Kashama and Idonaje (sp?), it's likely some of the big guys in the middle will go - maybe even B-Rob, but not likely. Damn, I cannot f***ing wait till next Sunday. BRING ON THOSE f***ING LIONS! -

Tony, let me try and find that out for you real quickly... I'll edit this post and put in the salaries when I find them... Zhamnov, Alexei $ 4,500,000 C Daze, Eric $ 3,200,000 LW Karpovtsev, Alexander $ 3,100,000 D Thibault, Jocelyn $ 3,100,000 G Sullivan, Steve $ 3,000,000 RW Berard, Bryan $ 2,010,000 D Ruutu, Tuomo $ 1,130,000 C McCarthy, Steve $ 1,127,500 D Bell, Mark $ 1,072,500 LW Arnason, Tyler $ 900,000 C Calder, Kyle $ 900,000 LW Robidas, Stephane $ 727,502 D Nieminen, Ville $ 600,000 RW Poapst, Steve $ 600,000 D Dempsey, Nathan $ 600,000 D Leighton, Michael $ 575,000 G Quint, Deron $ 550,000 D Passmore, Steve $ 550,000 G Strudwick, Jason $ 550,000 LW VandenBussche, Ryan $ 550,000 RW Nichol, Scott $ 425,000 C Moen, Travis $ 400,000 LW McLean, Brett $ 350,000 C Aitken, Johnathan $ 350,000 D That comes to a total of $30,867,502. Now, take out Aitken, Vandy, Struddy, Quint, Passmore, Dempsey, Nieminen, Sully, Krapov, and Zhamnov, and that comes to $16,517,502. Add in raises for Ruutu, Berard, Daze, Thibault, and Bell (It was one of him, Calder, or Arny who got more money this year), plus the signings of Cullimore, Barnaby, and Brown - plus Jim Vandermeer, the defenseman we got from Philly - plus (yeah, this is getting annoying - sorry about that ) Yakubov, Keith/Ellison, Babchuk, Thorton and that comes to at the very most, nine million more (at the very most, IMO), and that comes to right around $25,000,000. So yeah, Wirtz is a f***ing asshole who wants to go into this CBA as cheap as possible. And the earth is round. What else is new? At least we have gotten rid of all of the s***ty contracts and old, bad veterans (Krapotsev) - we're a young team, and when we do play hockey next, we should be playing a tough, gritty hockey game. One thing's for sure - not many teams are going to be able to beat us up. We have a lot of tough players on this hockey team, and I like that a lot.

The Cleveland Browns will lose to the Baltimore Ravens.

Isn't the guy still hitting .306 with two bad wrists? Damn, an outfield of Reed-Rowand-Lee would be awesome. Reed would be able to lead off, Rowand hitting second. Oh well, I still like Freddy and Big Ben.

Nice outing from Buehrle. Baj getting his feet wet, and Shingo giving us all a heart-attack again, only to be saved by an awesome throw from Timo! Way to go, Sox!

TIMO f***ING PEREZ! WHAT A THROW!

Shingo bringing back the days of Billy Koch... Let's finish this one off, Shingo!

Not really, that would have been a very tough play for really any secondbaseman...
