  1. They bought all the older guys beers...
  2. For a bit of a national perspective on our Bears, here's a John Clayton article - or review, say:

Fotop, LOL, can you explain that whole ilovebees thing a bit more? Post the website that has the explanation or whatever?

Hmm - I need an opinion here fellas. Should I buy the X-Box system at my local game store for about 125 bucks (a used one - still in solid shape, nothing wrong with it, and that's with tax included), or should I buy one online at possibly a lower cost, but then I'd have to go through all the shipping and s*** like that?
  6. What I said after the Sox were swept by the Twinkies...
  7. Here's to hoping the D-Rays dominate. My favorite teams are now the Sox, and whoever plays the Twins/Angels/Rangers/BoSox!
  8. Can someone explain to me why everyone is saying that the Dodgers are the big losers in all of this? I realize they lost the best set-up man in baseball, and a great clubhouse leader, but they also gained another clubhouse leader plus a great bat (Finley), the perfect 'Moneyball' guy in Hee Seop Choi (high OBP, high OPS), and they gained not a number 5 starter, more like a number 2 in Penny. Penny has just dominated this year, IIRC, doesn't he have something like a 3.15 ERA? That's awesome, and he's going to a pitchers park at LA. Someone want to argue this?
  9. I'm going to Training Camp Wednesday, so I'll give you guys a full report + pictures on Wednesday night!
  10. I think Sandy is going to have an absolutely huge influence on Jose, JMHO. I really hope to see Sandy behind the plate tomorrow. Even next year, I hope that if Sandy does retire, he can become a coach. IMHO, he'll be able to get through to Contreras a lot more than Coop will be able to.
  11. I think Loaiza should be a good fit for the Yankees, though - hear me out. They're looking at him to be there number five, give them some good innings. We were looking at him to be our number two for a big part of the year (pre-Garcia). For example; last week vs. Minny, 6 IP, 4 ER. Not very good for a number three - very good for a number five. I dunno how he'll do in New York, but I certainly wish him the best!
  12. Speaking of WC, how many games out are we in the WC standings, and who's in first? Texas? Boston?
  13. And for the guy who said Contreras has had 0 good seasons - didn't last year he have an above-500 record with less than a four ERA?

Thanks for clearing that up for me, WSF. But - maybe another stupid question, but anyways - what does the 'no limit', as opposed to a 'limit' mean? Does that just refer to the betting - and how much money you can put down?

This game has forced my hand - I'm going out to purchase X-Box, probably on E-Bay, in less than a week.
  16. I felt this deserved it's own thread, if you mods feel it doesn't, you can go right ahead and merge it to another one of the various Jose Contreras' threads. Here's the dirt on Jose Contreras. I thought it would be of interest to many people on the board, so I've compiled what I consider the more important stats for Jose. Here goes: Career: Jose has a career record of 15-7 in 27 games started (9 relief appearances.). In those appearances he pitched 166 2/3rds innings, has a K/BB ratio of 154/72, a 4.64 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. He seems to pitch equally well vs. lefties and righties, but he does do a bit better vs. lefties. Lefties hit .225 against him with 39 walks, and righties hit .236 against him with 33 walks. It also looks (very small sample size, so take it FWIW) like we have a second-half pitcher on our hands. Pre-All Star Break, in 94 IP, he posted a 5.38 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. Post-All Star Break, he seems dominant; 3.72 ERA and only a 1.09 WHIP, with batters hitting .209 off of him. His K/BB ratios also improved pre-ASB to post-ASB, with the ratio post-ASB at about 3/1. Kenny Williams was right when he said the division is going to have a very diverse look in our rotation, as Contreras has never faced Cleveland or KC, and has only faced ONE BATTER on Minny. He has faced Detroit, and the following are his numbers vs. teams that we face in the second half: (Before I post the vs Boston numbers, be warned; they are ugly, to say the least.) vs. Bos - 15 1/3rd IP, 28 ER, 16/14 K/BB, 16.43 ERA ( :puke ), 2.74 WHIP, .394 BAA. vs. Det - 19.2 IP, 3 ER, 19/6 K/BB, 1.37 ERA, .86 WHIP ( ), .159 BAA. vs. Oak - 8 IP, 7 ER, 6/5 K/BB, 7.88 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, .258 BAA. vs. Tex - 6 IP, 1 ER, 7/2 K/BB, 1.50 ERA, .83 WHIP, .143 BAA. What I've gotten from the research I've done? Very simple, IMHO. When Jose has a good K/BB ratio, it seems everything clicks - I guess that's a simple hypothesis (Honors Biology.... Yes! ), but when he's striking out more people, it seems like he is dominant. I think Kenny saw a couple of things in him: a.)If they could fix this flaw, he is an ace. An awesome, dominant pitcher - Kenny is probably very confident they can fix this. b.)Detroit is really the only team in our division who's had a good look at Contreras, and look at their success (or lack thereof.). I really think that Jose should succeed vs. Minny, Cleveland, and hopefully on Tuesday and beyond, KC. Hope you guys like it, it's 1:00 AM, I'm bored, so I thought I'd make some use of this time. Again - mods, if you guys feel it should be merged, go right ahead and do so.
  17. We picked up Contreras and cash for Loaiza. The Twins picked up a minor leaguer. The Cubs picked up Nomar, and didn't give up Clement. The BoSox picked up Cabrera and Mien-kay-b****. LA made some moves too. We sucked it up BIG time this weekend, losing seven in a row. It's down to a select few who still think this team can go to the playoffs. We're five out, it'll be tough, but we gotta stick by this team and cheer 'em on.

Can someone explain to me how to play Hold-Em? I think I get it - but I just want to make sure - basically, you just have to have the best hand, with the your cards, the community cards, the river, etc?
  19. From Sun-Times - A good David Terrell Read: Time for David to prove that he was a deserved first round pick!
  20. I still will argue that we haven't seen the best from this team yet, even without Maggs and Frank...
  21. Can someone inform me on this Proctor guy? How old is he? Is he a reliever/starter?
  22. If this team does somehow scrap themselves into the playoffs, our bullpen is going to be very, very good. Schoeney/Garland or Contreras/Marte/Politte/Shingo. Let's hope we can get there first, though...
