  1. Some of the guys that I'd like to have on this team - the contact, OBP types, would be: -Aquiring Hairston from the Orioles, and platooning he and Harris at second. -Aquiring Damon from the BoSox, moving Rowand and his strong arm to right field. -Aquire Catalanatto via free agency. That would be if we didn't aquire Damon.
  2. Hmm, just got home from school (Didn't see this posted, so...). And I'm hearing on AM 1000 and seeing in different places that Bruce Levine has stated the Sox won't make an offer to Maggs. If the knee is truely this seriously injured, then I have no problem with letting Maggs walk. Get our comp picks, and let him walk - we shouldn't be paying a guy even eight million if we're uncertain of his health. That money can be better spent elsewhere. So, I guess Magglio has played his last game in a White Sox uniform. Great career, here, Maggs, unfortunate that it had to end this way. Best of luck to wherever you go.
  3. He pitched two games for the Expos. You've got to be kidding me if you're calling two games, or just over 10 innings pitched a great start...
  4. Not really a sleeper pick here, but I think that Felix Diaz will eventually have a fine career. Not expecting him to be a top of the rotation guy, but I think his fastball/changeup/curveball is good enough to get it done in this league. If he can use the whole plate, like he was doing against Oakland (Not counting the first three innings), he should be alright. I hope.
  5. B-Mac, excellent job this season. I cannot wait to see you donning the White Sox pinstripes. Best of luck in the playoffs. Kick some ass.
  6. This is the most pumped up I've seen the team all year. Something inside tells me not to give up on this team, even if things are bleak, but then I take a look at the standings...
  7. Let's hope that we look back on this day and say, damn, do you guys realize the start of this was from a very solid start from, of all people, Jason Grilli? I'm not expecting anything, but I'm just hoping and praying that this is a September to remember. This may sound silly, but I was just imagining how pumped Hawk would get if it got down to a one game playoff vs. Minny. Bottom of the ninth - and Paul Konerko hits a homer, a walkoff. Just thinking about the call that Hawk would have on a play like that, it gives me the goosebumps. Dreams, dreams, dreams... :headshake
  8. Ditto. ESPN is nice eye candy, better graphics, better presentation, but as usual, Madden with much better gameplay and franchise mode, making Madden, yet again, the king of football games. BTW - WHarris1, I suggest you bump up the User Awareness AI. It's not really cheating, it's just - if you bump up that AI, the DB's actually go after the ball, and jump routes that the computer would usually jump. Bump up knockdowns a bit too. Even that, though, won't matter if you just plain suck at defense (not saying you do). I recomend that you put a lot of pressure on the QB, and make sure to mix up zone and man, mix up bump and run and playing off. Use hot routes, too. Blitz a lot.
  9. Hernia operations are b****es, but they must be done. I've had two in my life so far, one coming last summer (not the one that we are currently in). It gets to the point where you can barely run, much less lift anything, if you don't get the surgery. Unforutnately, when the pain relievers wear off, it hurts for a good 24-36 hours...
  10. Well, I've been in school for a week and half or so, and all of my teachers are pretty good, except my math teacher. First hour I have a weight lifting class. Teacher isn't too mean, she's pretty cool. Second hour is my physics teacher, who really doesn't give a damn, he's retiring after the year. He lets us sleep during class/movies - and makes up some funny rules. Such as - if there's a person in our room watching the teacher (some days these 'inspectors', so to speak, come in and basically grade the teacher), if you don't know the correct answer, you raise your left hand - and if you know the answer, you raise your right hand. He also has something called a 'Fridge Test' - say you get a bad grade on a test, and have to show it to your parents. He gives you a test that has a really good grade, and you put your name on it. He's a funny guy... Third hour, my Brit/American Lit teacher is great. She swears a lot, and is pretty down to earth. She's my favorite teacher. Fourth hour, my AP History teacher. She's a damn good teacher, you take like three tests a week, but I enjoy that class. It's hard to explain - even though she's sometimes mean and sometimes gives a lot of homework, you like being in her class. Fifth hour lunch, best class of the day. Sixth hour Computer Science - I thought it was a blow-off class, turns out, it isn't, so that kind of sucks for me. I'm actually going to have to pay attention... Last hour Math. Gah - I really don't like my math teacher. He obviously doesn't like me (he was my Soph-Basketball coach last year). I also really don't like the guy either. Here's the way it is in his class - either, you're a 'Yes-Man' to him, laugh at anything 'funny' he says, don't make any jokes at all, just sit there and laugh at what he has to say - or you get b****ed out by him - like I was today...
  11. I'll take the Twins front two starters against anyone, especially if Santana stays this dominant...
  12. If Kyle Farnsworth comes relatively cheap, I'll take him. Hell, Juan Cruz sucked with the Cubs, and now he's a solid middle reliever with the Braves (BTW - that was such a s***ty trade by Hendry, who for the most part, makes damn good trades). A lower prospect for Farnsy. He can be dominant when he's on - we just gotta find that 'on' switch.
  13. Talking about jerseys, my favorites used to be the Kings black, silver, and white jerseys. But other than that, give me a the Blackhawk red any day of the week...
  14. You always suspect the worst, so there's no need to even mention it...
  15. Pot calling the kettle black? You're calling us nerds, yet you're posting here? Get a life... rolleyeyes.gif (Mods - Give me a PM if this is out of line. I don't like someone calling anyone on this board a 'nerd', well - seriously at least...)
  16. Tomlinson is the best player in fantasy football - so anytime you grab him, you're in good shape. I also like Duuuuuece McAllister - but LT is a great RB. Nice team, there.
  17. Sorry if this offends you, but that's the dumbest thing I've read in a long time...
  18. And in that way, Hockey and soccer are alike. I guarantee it's one of the most exciting sports to watch, if you actually know what's going on. I bet the same holds true for soccer - granted, I haven't given it that chance that I gave hockey, but I'm just making a comparison.
  19. Mercy. You've criticized everyone elses MVP candidates, who the hell is yours? My goodness, to each his own... rolleyeyes.gif
  20. We'd have to be very lucky - and now especially with the injuries of to Garcia and Lee, that makes our team a lot less potent than it already was (or wasn't). But - even if the Twins sent Johan Santana to the mound two out of the six times.... If we have a healthy Garcia, Buehrle, and Contreras going for all six games (we could set our rotation to do that). There is no doubt in my mind, that each of these pitchers is capable of absolutely DOMINATING that Twinkie offense. Especially Contreras - I dunno, I have really began to love watching him pitch. I'm hoping that the Garcia injury is just a small, two-missed-starts blip on the radar, but I won't be surprised if Freddy doesn't pitch a game the rest of the year...
  21. Hmm, while I don't think he's Brando (mods, I'm sorry If I shouldn't be talking about this publicly), he does have a different demeanor than that of the KW 'disliker' that I've seen post at WSI. At WSI, he comes off more as a guy who uses stats and other things to back up his argument. Maybe the more freedom here changed his attitude or something, but he sure doesn't seem at all like the 'jeremyb' at WSI...
  22. Then why jump in on a thread you don't give two s***s about? I really don't like when uninformed people make assumptions about a sport - I won't do it about soccer, and you don't do it about hockey. Kay? EDIT: I may not like soccer, but I sure as hell won't make fun of it...
  23. Well - the World Cup is on, and no - no need to put hockey, because just about everyone knows that we're talking about hockey at this time of year. And I'll take hockey everyday of the week and twice on Sunday, over soccer...
  24. This was a total team effort collopse, not one individual... Here's the things that I believe led to this teams overall suck-i-ness. -THomas and Ordonez injuries. Can't control injuries. Better depth would've been nice, but that's what happens when you don't have a lot of money to work with. -Jon Garland not sacking up down the stretch. He's been mediocre down the stretch, but lately he's sucked. -Lack of clutch pitching from our bullpen. Whether it be the dissappointment we've seen from Marte a lot of times, Politte choking, or the constand crappy pitching we saw from Jackson and Koch. I've been, for the most part, pleased with Cotts, Adkins, and Shingo. -Dissappointment from Crede at third. We were expecting Crede to step up and hit .270 or do (at least I was). He's been brutal this year. Thoughts?
