You couldn't even drink a can of pop if the hand-held pointed can opener was missing!

The fascination that everyone had when they not only got to see for the first time,....... but fought over who would be the next player to play the first video game that came out (PONG) on your television set. No one could believe how cool it was!

Growing up, my dad would take the whole family out to Old Comiskey, and "ALWAYS" sit out in left field. Premium seats never happened, but as a family, we always had a great time. Many years later, I met a wonderful old guy that I became real friendly with. Turns out that he had 2 golden box seats season tickets with parking directly right up from 1st base. He sold me any 4 dates I wanted every year. For 4 years I was able to take my dad to finally enjoy premium seats before He passed away at the age of 79 , as well as also a disabled friend of mine before He also passed away at the age of 40. These memories and the wonderful times we had together are extremely cherished and are deeply embedded within to STAY!!!! (Side note: Strange as it may sound, shortly after my dad and friend passed away, the old guy passed away and the tickets were no longer available. How's that for timing?? Thank You Lord!)

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) I'm not mentioning anything from 2005. WAY too easy. Honorable mention: Not White Sox related, but Steve Bartman and game 6 of '03 the NLCS will always have a special place in my heart. I still have the newspaper cover of that along with game 7 of the 2003 NLCS framed, and hung on my wall in my rec room. In between those 2 papers, are framed copies of the 2005 Central Title, ALDS Title, ALCS Title, W.S Champs. Underneath that are original papers framed of Hank Aaron's 715th homer, Cal Ripkens 2131 games. and Pete Rose 4192 hit to pass Ty Cobb. What a beautiful wall! EVERY-ONE of these are cherished baseball moments. Someday I hope to get a copy of the 1959 pennant win.

QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) The program I was using to download and save youtube videos is not working. Basically my work blocks youtube, but I need a couple videos to show the national anthem. One of my next lessons is the War of 1812 and I thought showing a traditional anthem, a Blackhawk Anthem from the 1991 All-Star game and Hendrix at Woodstock would solidify me as the coolest teacher. But how can I get youtube to my flash drive? Maybe someone else has a better idea, but the following is what I use. Here's a program that you may want to try. It's called Videoget http://nuclear-coffee.com/VideoGet After you download it, you are allowed 20 free downloads and then after that a 20 dollar lifetime subscription fee is due. If you decide to use it, feel free to PM me if you have any questions on how to use it or get it on the flash drive. It's pretty simple. Another program that is free is http://www.getmiro.com/ Miro. Only problem is once in a while it won't read the URL as being a video, and won't take. VideoGet I have never had a problem with. I hope this helps!

What's the strangest/funniest/wildest non-baseball thing at USCF
Rooftop Shots replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Can't remeber the year, but one of my buddie's pet peeves was that he couldn't stand it when there was a pitching change, and they would open up the center field gates and bring the truck onto the warning track. The game that we went to, it didn't happen. In the second inning, a home run was hit and it took out the truck's windshiled. -

When I was in little league, our team went to a game at Old Comiskey. The coach got hit in the side of the face with a big wad of chewed-up pizza. He wasn't very happy! -

QUOTE (Stocking @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) I was at a game when the "Kiss Cam" was on the Jumbotron. There was this younger guy with his girl, just waiting for the camera to turn on him. When it does, she goes in for the the kiss and he pushes her head into his crotch. she fights it so her head winds up bopping up and down. The camera guy quickly turns the camera and they cut to another camera, but not in time. It was f***ing priceless. I was with my girl at the time, pure shock on her face. The crowd cheered, please tell me someone else was at this game. maybe '05 or 'maybe '04? I was at that same game with the Pastor of my church that I go to and we both saw it. Can't even begin to explain his reaction. -
I'm the only one. It's not wierd, just uncommon.

When the FDA came out, did they drive out themselves.......or did they get their car "Toad" ?

Kind of surprised that it wasn't in a can of coke instead. That way the guy could have stated that he drank from a can of "Croak-A-Cola!"

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) Yeah, he is pretty good. I like the Seattle crew. A lot of people consider them to be on the dull side, but the man you are talking about does a very solid job. Has a nice voice and really knows his stuff. Thanks, I hope I get to hear him someday. Haven't seen him in quite a while. Growing up.......couldn't ask for a nicer guy to be around. Very personable........and got along well with EVERYBODY! I remember him in the announcers booth doing little league games. He really got into it!

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 09:12 PM) I listen to alot of the other team's announcers on my XM, and you can hate of chicago guys all you want, most of the other teams radio guys blow chunks. And the lady for the Yankmees makes me want to pull my haor out. She may know baseball, but her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard. And they are ALL homers. Just curious! Have you or anyone else ever heard Seattle announce Rick Rizzs. In the late 60's early 70's, I grew up a few houses away from him in a little town called Calumet Park Ill. A few years back, during a Sox game the camera pointed to Seattle's booth and Hawk mentioned Rick as being a south side Chicago home boy. When we were kids, Rick dreamed of being an announcer. Does anybody know how he does as an announcer? I've never had the chance to hear him. Thanks!

I've been heaing a lot of of SO MANY don't even want to watch th Sox anymore. Many say that "I'm Done!!!" Don't get me wrong............I'm pretty disgusted the way things have been going also. As I take a step back...........I'm a diehard Sox fan........and whether we excell from the Twins series on to the rest of the season.......or when we play the Twins,,,,and we just FLAT OUT take a dump! Either way........I'm either going to go on an extreme high..........or I'm going down with them on the ship. I wait for baseball all winter...............and I'll stick with The Sox and watch them no matter how painful or exciting it may be. Kenny Williams has tried to do what he feels is best. So far...it hasn't worked out that great. But at least we have him for a GM. Anybody remember the Ron Schueller days? Most years......... except for a few players on each team......the lineup sucked. It was never solid top to bottom. We have a GM who is agressive and is HUNGRY to win. Whether his moves work out in this year next year, or never.......... He makes things interesting, creates a LOT of fun discussions on this board, and isn't afraid to roll the dice. He tries to give us something to look forward to every year.........and for that..I'm sticking with The Sox to very end even if we wind up 20 out by September's end. How the heck would you like to be a die-hard baseball fan in Pittsburgh? Washington? San Diego? They never have anything to look forward to EVERY FRIGGIN' YEAR! It's easy to be a Sox fan when they win! Who will watch them with me no matter how ugly it may get? Alllllrighty Guys!!! Start the "Rag On The Rooftop Shots" thread! Knock yourselves out! Either way..........................I'm staying to the end! I love the game of baseball and there's not much of it left. I'll enjoy whatever moments that are left that The Sox will give me! If there aren't any good ones left.............throw me an oar I'm going down with them!

I wish that I could remember who we were playing, but I remember Pablo Ozuna at the plate. The pitcher threw the ball, it bounced "in front" of home plate and into the catcher's mitt, and Pablo swung at it "after" it was already in the mitt. Hawk was laughing his head off wondering...."What the heck was that?" I think he said that was the first time he ever saw someone swing at a pitch when it was already in a catcher's mitt. The bounce in front of the plate made it even more hilarious! Anyone else remember seeing that? And have a better memory of who that was against?

All right All right! I'll climb on on the geezer wagon! Feb 27th I turned 50. One good point about it though! Was born the year they won the pennant, and dad raised me a die-hard Sox fan. Not bad credentials...eh?

Why Chris Getz Injury Is Good for the Sox
Rooftop Shots replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (beck72 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 07:13 AM) the sox have a guy who is the polar opposite of that, a guy who makes very consistent contact, hits for avg., and people want to go back to a younger Juan Uribe?! I don't get it. I could see wanting to improve on Getz. He may not hit more than .280 and post a .350 OBP. In my world, I want someone for 2b who can do that, as they aren't power hitters. But Jayson Nix isn't an improvement over Getz, not for the type of team the Sox are trying to build right now, with the power hitters in Dye, Thome and PK. When Getz returns, he should get the bulk of playing time. Totally agree sir!!! being a contact hitter and putting the ball in play............anything can happen. (This is probably a poor analogy, and I by NO MEANS are comparing the two), but in key situations, I fear the heck out of Palanco at the plate a ton more than someone like Maggs. Palanco YOU KNOW will have some sort of contact, and chances have greatly improven of something positive happening. Is Getz Palanco? HECK NO! Even Close! NO!!!!! Will he ever be? Probably Not! BUT............and here's my point...............he has a lot more upside in putting the ball in play than Nix does. I don't know about you, but I've had about enough of "Go for the fence or nothing at all" at bats in key situations. Had enough of that with Brian Anderson (And yes....as you stated....and good point by the way.......Uribe.) Getz is a scrappy young grind-out player with good base-stealing speed as well, (and granted) that he still has a lot to learn and improve on, but his upside in going in the direction that this organzation would like to go is greater than Nix. I think Nix on this team is GREAT because of his versatility in giving guys rest in various positions, and a backup for injuries, but as an everyday one position, consistent at bat player.........I'll stick with Getz. His contact is better. His speed is better. His strike-out per at bat ratio is less........... Getz 43/311 to Nix 38/171. Nix....approx. 1 K per every 4 at bats. Getz....approx. 1 K per every 7 at bats. and it's still his first year! What's not to like??? -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) I am ready for Freddie. He is a battler and gives it 100% I'll give you that, but one thing I am concerned about. One thing that was a concern and discussed many times in the past was that if and when he pitches, and someone gets on base......it's an automatic double. They stole on him more easily than Contreras. And if Freddy is not in nearly top notch form as in '05, a lot more guys are going to get on 1st (Opps......I mean ) 2nd base a lot more often. When he pitched before, there were a lot more teams focused on the "power" orientation of hitting. Now with the steroid era gone, more guys/kids are trying to tear up the basepaths more. Not good news for a pitcher when his release point to the plate is comparable to Konerko's speed on the basepaths. Guys will circle the basepaths faster than the big goons in the Bugs Bunny baseball cartoon.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) This will probably get me speared, but does Pods' sudden streak of health make anyone else wonder if he found some magic juice? Well guys, I read all of your posts, and I have a theory. Here's why I believe that Pods has a better chance of staying healthy, and could still be very productive. When he first got injured in 05' he was with the playmate. Obviously his body couldn't take the stress of the daily grind of baseball along with all of the "Extra-curricular Activities" that was going on outside of the baseball field with "Queen Hotsy-Totsy!. His body finally breaks down. Then.....After a couple of years of barely playing baseball.......his body gets a chance to heal and get rejuvenated. Now...........he just had his first kid. Can no longer have any "Outside Action" going on anymore. Mommy is too busy and very tired from taking care of the kid while daddy is away. Daddy also has a new responsibility...so he has to make sure he stays healthy to earn money to support the family. No more "nooky-nooky!" Daddy HAS TO remain a working man! So now, his total concentration is back on baseball, and he should stay healthy. There! How's that for some outlandish backwards twisted Neanderthal philosophy! (But.............you wonder if any part of it really could be a factor!!)

If I'm not mistaken, Pods signed a one year deal with us. Wasn't sure if there were options with it or not. Anyone hear anything if there is any considerations or talks from KW of any signings of an extension? Or is everything just a wait and see issue and is Hush Hush so as not to cause any distractions?
