QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 07:03 AM) Akinori Iwamura has been designated for assignment by the Pirates. As bad as he's been this year, Iwamura had been solid for the Rays his last 3 yrs, playing both 3b and 2b. http://espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?play...p;type=batting3 . With Teahen out, Iwamura would look a lot better than Nix out there. And if he gets back to his pre-2010 hitting, could give the sox an alternative at leadoff to Pierre. He could play 2b and give Gordon a day off or two as well. Olney reports that the Pirates will be willing to eat a lot of his salary--[which at $4 + mill. a yr, he's still owed a bit]. http://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/statuses/16339749330 Trade them Nix or release him and be done. He's a UTL IFer who can only play 2b and has shown he can't hit major league pitching. Agreed. Good call! At least you know that you will be getting someone that can not only field the ball, but also not airmail it to the stands after making a play. Not sure if he can figure out the hitting part, but can't get any worse than Nix. I wonder if going from The Rays (Contenders) to Pittsburgh (consistent nobody's the last umpteen years) has screwed up his head? Either way, I'd much rather take chances with him, than Nix. He was definately a tough out, and gave great at bats when he was with Tampa, and as you mentioned, Nix has never proved that he can hit major league pitching consistently. Iwamura has! Kenny, you're in Pittsburgh! Go For It!

Former Birmingham Barons Manager Wally Backham Goes Ape-S*#t

When he left the field, I wonder if anyone on the team said, "Hey! Bring Wally back....man!" -
Did you know that most lipstick contains fish scales! A quarter has 119 grooves on its edge, a dime has one less groove! A cockroach can live several weeks with its head cut off - it dies from starvation!

If insurance compnies lived up to what they say, then technically insurance would be almost free. Here's my logic. Let's say you have to pay 1200 dollars per year. Allstate claims that you can save up to 435 dollars every year by calling them. You get their policy, and now you are down to 765 dollars per year. Next, call Progressive. They claim to save you up to 335 dollars per year. You cancell Allstate and get Progressive. Now you are down to 430 dollars per year. State Farm claims to save you 400 dollars per year. You cancell Progressive and get State Farm. Now you are down to 130 dollars per year. Lastly, call Geico. They claim to save you 15%. You sign with them and now you are approximately in the 109 dollar per year range. Divide that into 12 monthly payments of about 9 bucks. There, how's that for some twisted math?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 31, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) What wouldn't upset you? Lillibridge has no business being on a Major League roster. I totally agree with you. As someone else said, Maybe Beckam and Vizquel are showing "as of now" that they don't belong on the major league roster either..........................But.............. at least they have shown that they could play at that level at some point and time. We have called Gradeschool "Loserbridge" up numerous times, and he continually shows that in the batters box, he's about as useful as Prince Fielder eating in a vegetarian bar. If someone has to get sent down, or to replace Teahan, there has got to be somebody else that we can call up for a short period of time. I don't think that I can take "Round # 6 call-up " of his famous 'Strike out" or WEAK Ground ball to the shortstop" You can put the baseball on a tee-ball stand, have the entire opposing team sit on the bench, and Lillibridge still wouldn't be able to get on base!.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 20, 2010 -> 07:40 AM) Reason #25. Jayson Nix at 3rd. I was at that game last night! I'll add Reason #26 to this thread! Nix "ANYWHERE" besides Triple AAA I could give 2 cents whether this guy can play 75 different positions at a sub-par level, and they keep him just to give others an occasional rest. Offensively and defensively, the guy's overall reliability is just plain crap! You can toss him in the boiling pot of "Potentail MaKers" that amount to nothing along with Danny Wright, Brian Anderson, and Lillibridge. (Unfortunately, we still haven't learned our lesson with Lillibridge yet. I'll guarantee that they'll bring him up a couple of more times, watch him strike out and hit a ton of WEAK ground balls before they finally "Get It" with this guy!)

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 17, 2010 -> 02:21 AM) The 2005 Houston Astros started 15-30 and went on to win the NL Pennant. The season is not over yet. We know we have a pitching staff that could be amongst the best in the league. The hitting will come around eventually, it simply HAS to. We won't bat .227 as a team for the entire season. Be patient... I don't post often, but this time I have to. A good part of me agrees with you. Sure, it's insanely and ridiculously discouraging now, but win lose or draw, I'm with this team to the end. I know that the chances of this happeneing again are remote , but I saw the 83 Sox. I remember ragging my brains out at the start, BUT I still had some glimmer of hope when I knew what we had in a pitching staff (Same as now!) I knew we had guys that could hit (same as now). I believed in our manager that he had a DRIVE TO WIN (Same as now). We eventually stuck with it and after the all star break, we did not lose one series. All said, I would rather fight to the end with what we have, than to sell ourt and bring in a bunch of guys that may just turn out to be wannabees. At least with what we have, we know that there are track records of a lot of guys that can give us a healthy run. Also..........even though you can't really count on it.....strange things do happen. REMEMBER how dominant we were one year, and then Thomas and Ordonez took a dump with injuries at around the same time, and it killed us. You don't hope that it happens, but other teams can experience the same thing at any given time. Scenario...........how would we be if say.........Miguel Cabrera and Verlander went down? Morneau, and Liriano. And we stayed healthy!!! I know that I am reaching for straws, but in the end, whether anything like that ever happens or not, I would much rather fight with what we have than to bring in a bunch of young kids and watch more triple AAA ball with absolutley no hope of turning it around for the remainder of this season, as well as possibly next. Like I said, I don't post often, but when I do, there are usually quite a bit negative replies fired back. And that's OK! That's what makes this board fun..........reading everyone's entitled opinions. But regardless..it's baseball season, even amongst the discouragement, I can still enjoy being a DIE-HARD Sox fan. I just love the game of baseball, and enjoy strutting wearing my Sox gear when I walk around outside..............regarless how they play! OK....I'm Done! Fire away boys!!!

It DEFINATELY did not hit him. On the MLB network they showed a replay from an overhead cam, and it CLEARLY did not touch AJ. It's so amazing how he gets involved in so many different types of these scenarios. He sure makes things entertaining.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) That's WAAAAY too much work for a bowl of cereal. 1) Pour cereal in bowl. 2) Pour milk in bowl (or Old Style). 3) Eat cereal and milk. 4) Enjoy! QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Eating milk sounds difficult. Not really! If you leave it in the fridge until it's about 2 weeks past the expiration date, it gets "nice and chunky!!!"

I do a mixture. In an oversized container I have Total Raisin Bran (for the Health), Rice Krispies(For the crunch), and Multi-grain Cheerios (Adds a little bit of sweetness along with the lightly sugared raisins from the raisin bran.) Shake it all up, and you get "Bran-isp-ios" Sounds nuts, but it's really quite good!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) YOU KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF HERM SCHNEIDER!!! One thing I can't fig out! Hermy is known as one of the best trainers in baseball, but yet when a player gets injured and he comes out of the dugout, he almost looks like an oversized blob that can barely walk, let alone run. You gotta think that the players have to say in the back of their minds......"Man, why should I listen to you on how to take care of my body, when you continually grow 2 to 3 pants sizes bigger each and every year?" "How about yourself, bub?"

Glad you had yourself a great day! It's "YOUR" day. It is SUPPOSED be special!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) 3 more weekends and I think this Ark will be finished. Now how do I round up all these animals? Pretend that all of the animals are clones of Ozzie, and that there are sign up sheets inside the ark for free Websights for all of them which all got the OK nod by KW. -
If I was a clutch hitter, to help put a psyche on the pitcher when I came to bat, I would like the opening of Bad Reputation by Thin Lizzy. VERY Loud with Very heavy bass. It would pump me up as well.

Miracles can happen, Twinkies may consider trading Mauer
Rooftop Shots replied to chisoxfan09's topic in The Diamond Club
What is really scary is that you know that somewhere down the line that The Yankees will be licking their chops if Mauer is freed up. Posada getting on in age. Man......can you imagine Mauer in that lineup with Jeter, A-Rod, and Texiera? Ouch! -
I kind of look forward to this. Gives you a chance to see some of the ins and outs of each team. Looks like we'll be waiting a while to be able to see our Sox. I'm kind of glad they are at the bottom of the schedule. By then we'll have a much better idea as to how some of the "newbies" are coming along when a good portion of the show is focused on them. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 10:01 AM) The issue is, I think he WAS joking, which would mean he had no idea. Yeah! No biggie. I get the gist of the global warming issue. I was just making an attempt at being a "wise -apple". Glad you guys took it that way. After I posted it, I realized that my lame attempt at being sarcastically humorous could back fire into a sea of posts that could have gone on a tangent from people's different points of view. If I shoot one-liners in the future, I'll try and be a little more careful on the subject matter. I'll pick topics that are less controversial..........like politics and religion.

Let me guess. Is this another one of KW's guys on a list that he states "He's been on our radar and we've been wanting him for a long time now." One thing I agree with, we've had plenty of "rocket-ballers " in the recent past who threw hard, but either had no movement, or was all over the place. 97' is nice on the gun...............but unless there is control with movement........what good is it? We've been down that road before with near 100mph guys who got shelled or walked the Bugs Bunny bases loaded cartoon!

QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 07:19 PM) Good for Bobby. Also nice to see Linebrink being a supportive clubhouse guy and a good friend. From what I understand, Jenks professed his faith in (not what the article calls..."religion") put professed his faith in Christ as his Savior. I know that Linebrink and also Josh Fields openly professed to be "born-again" Christians as well. When you accept and profess Christ as your Savior....you'll want to do the best that you can to be a representative of Him in all aspects of your life. It's probably why he sees and desires things a lot different now. Unfortunately....... the media usually won't write or print that. They'll water it down and say that they found "religion".
