  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) According to Baseball Prospectus if he keeps up his current pace he will have the greatest year defensively for a CF since 1887, yes 1887. From Baseball Prospectus: Last week, responding to the struggles of rookie centerfielder Brian Anderson, who is hitting .163/.263/.296 in 157 plate appearances, the ever-unpredictable Ozzie Guillen announced the team was going to stay the course in center. Bolstering Guillen's support was his belief that no one else in the organization "can play center field [well enough] to win a championship." Usually, such proclamations are based upon a misguided understanding of the dynamics of winning baseball, in that run production is inherently far more valuable than defense, and also easier to accurately evaluate. Last year's White Sox team, however, revealed just how powerful elite defense can be, and thus Guillen's words can't be simply laughed off. Anderson has indeed been horrific at the plate, with a negative 8.8 VORP. Through his first 54 games in center, though, he has saved 10 runs more than the average center fielder by RAA, and 15 more than a replacement glove. Anderson is producing on defense at a RATE of 124, meaning that if he keeps up his current play he'll have saved an astounding 24 runs above the average centerfielder (think the once-spectacular Andruw Jones since 2004) over 100 games. Since 1900, no centerfielder has kept up a 124 RATE for a full season--not Willie Mays, Tris Speaker, Curt Flood, or Jim Edmonds: Amazing. And I'll say as of right now, Kalapse has the best sig on this site, bar none. I am a HUGE Anderson fan.

I'll take his brother, Jared but not him.
  3. Time to update my Brian Anderson getting hot meter..
  4. I'll say this, Garland can at least swing the bat pretty good for a pitcher. 16 K's for sox pitching tonight..? That'll work.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Edgar Matinez' career would have been over 8 years before he retired if the DH didn't exist. It helps players who totally suck at defense, are injury risks in the field or are just too damn old to play the field a way to prolong thier careers. I hate watching National League baseball anyway, you see so many pitchers walk the 8th hitter in order to get out of a jam, in the AL there isn't usually that incredibly easy out in every lineup that pitchers can bank on. It deflates ERA's and and inflates strikeout numbers for pitchers. Paul Monitor wouldn't be in the Hall of Fame at all if it wasn't for the DH rule.
  6. Uribe is really getting hot now. Thornton has been just outstanding for us this year. Count, Crede, AJ, Ozuna, the WHOLE DAMN TEAM.... YES!!!!!!!!
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:12 AM) Dallas is clearly the better team here, but that might not matter. It probably wouldn't cause the best team in the East is currently at home watching the playoffs..
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 01:10 AM) It's almost getting ridiculous, Pablo just gets a hit every time he swings that magic wand of his, and it's usually f***ing ugly to look at. If only he could play defense *sighs*. *Fixed*
  9. The Heat will probably win the next game and the Mavs will finish them off with 2 at their home court. I hope I'm wrong cause I want to see Dallas steal one in Miami, (esp. since I have a bet already with Mavs in 6.. ) but sadly.. I believe this is how it's gonna happen.
  10. Here you go..
  11. Pollite should just have the surgery if it is bone chips like it's being indicated. Have it now, be ready for the playoffs.
  12. Didn't see the game but I'm glad we got the win. As for getting Riske...
  13. I don't need to explain myself. Everyone knows how I feel about it.
  14. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) I'm not saying we shouldn't have retaliated ssi...was moreso a smartass resposne back at mr. genius. Don't think he got the jist of what DBAH0 was saying...trust me, I wanted Javy to plant a ball in someones back. What got me alittle irritated from their posts is that they get on a rookie instead of a veteran (Vazquez) who basically saw what was going on and didn't even do anything whatsoever. Why not yell at Javy then? Why sent a pitcher with no control and try and hit a batter and basically cost some fines and suspensions?
  15. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:13 AM) i have 'ace' you might be too young to understand how the game is played I've played the game almost all my life (didn't get to a league until I was 12) and have a father and a grandfather who have played in minor league ball (never made the pros) for a long time and I don't know how the game is played? I tell you what I can give you a 9 year old kid (my cousin) who probably knows more about baseball and how it's played than 30-50+ year old grown men anyday of the week. Age is a very overrated thing. Hell, IMO, DJ knows more about the game than Hawk does (even being a better hitter in his career.)
  16. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:10 AM) uh, if hitting one guy is going to cost you an entire game you weren't going to win it anyways. Then suspending your manager and other players (Vazquez, tracey, Montero, whoever) wouldn't?
  17. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:08 AM) you're joking right? well, personally i don't want the sox to be some pussy team thats afraid to retaliate after their players are getting intentional hit. Have you bother reading this thread? Your way off base here mr. enius..
  18. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) then throw behind him...make it look obvious to us OMG... GMAFB.
  19. Wow.. looked around some other sox sites and this is really being talked about.. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) Is Tracey getting sent down because of this. No. Pollite will be coming off the DL, and Tracey was brought up to replace Politte. He goes down. No because of this. You honestly believe Montero deserves to be here more than Tracey? Not saying I don't agree with you, cause I do believe the sox want to have Tracey have some more seasoning in AAA, but to have an adventure guy, who serves up meatballs rather than a guy who has major league ready stuff (maybe not with control just yet) and who has a future here is going to get the nod? I need to take a s*** cause my stomach just felt iffy...
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) Why are you putting a rookie with s*** control in a situation like that? Then completely demoralizing the guy after he fails to do his dirty work. That's bulls*** or as many like to say, that's bush. Funny how Tracey wasn't commenting after the game while packing his f***ing bags. Ozzie is completely out of control here. Excatly what I said. Completely agree.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) I said it before and I'll say it again. IMO Ozzie Guillen is similar to Dusty Baker when it comes to handling young players. Whoa, Whoa, Whoa.. That's a whole different discussion all-together. I never like anyone putting Ozzie and Dusty's name in the same sentence. Ozzie is very good with young players. He gives them every chance (eigher in pressure situations or making the team) to succeed. Ask Jenks and Logan this year. Dusty would never do that in a million years. He is against that philosophy. If I had to compare Ozzie to someone as far as getting a specific job done on the field (like retaliating, or a fundamental execution) it wouldn't be Baker.
  22. It was just stupid on ozzie's part. Why the hell who you sent a rookie pitcher who has incredible stuff, but little (or NO) control to be asked to retaliate against an opposing player, or basically try and bean a player if you know that pitcher can't even throw a strike consistantly to begin with? Tracey should have just pitched like he usually does and he would have done the same thing with Cleveland (hit a batter by accident) not "try" and hit a batter cause he probably couldn't hit him if he tried.
  23. QUOTE(shaneomacfan @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 11:59 PM) Tribune Link This story seems to indicate just that. I'm a little disappointed, if true... That is the most f***ed up thing I've read since yesterday. I just pray that Tracey isn't mentally f***ed up because of this since that what usually happens to one of our spects if he gets sent down.
  24. Am I hearing that Tracey might get sent down...? QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) i didn't see the game Only saw it at the top of the 8th thru.
  25. Started baseball real late (age 12) played every position expect pitcher, catcher when I played. I ran track so I was one of the fastest kids around South Chicago for a long time. I still rub it in some people's faces cause when I was in high school when I did impress a couple scouts when we played Carmel (said I could be a potential 4 tool gem [not 5 tool cause of my weak arm] with "developing power".. ) I could run, play good D, excellent batting eye [where I got the most recoqnition], but I had a below average arm and was just an "ok" hitter (hit .324[not too good when your in H.S. and it was my best season average wise] 2HR [both inside-The-Park] 23 RBI's 18W 12K [had a 15W 22K my Junior year]) last time I checked my stats for my H.S. If I would had continued playing, (2nd base probably would had been my position cause of my weak arm) I probably would had been drafted really late (or singed as a non draftee in all likelihood) and would have sucked in A ball.. (would of gotten man-handled but put up a decent W/K ratio..) I will probably play during the summer and bat against the 6'4 "stud" Slavko, a.k.a SoxFan1, and see what he does against me (he should be intimidating since I'm only 5'7-5'8) I will give him his respect since I heard he's got a good curveball.. (12-6 break on that filthy s***) but I will crush his 79 mph fastball out of the park. But now... I have gained 30 lbs since H.S. so I'm not skinny anymore, but I'm not that strong eigher.
