Pieces to start moving soon
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 05:59 AM) I'm pretty much in the middle on this one. Danks really has no value to the White Sox right now, he's not that good of a prospect, but he's shown a bit of power in the past and plays good defense. If a coach within your system can get through to him and he hits a little bit, you have a 2-3 WAR player on your hands in his good seasons. If I'm Houston or Minnesota - especially Minnesota who pretty much have jack squat in the minors for OFers right now - I'll take a chance on Danks in a second. I agree. He increased his overall power, bb rate, contact, stolen base rate, and reduced his k's (though not that drastically) after his second stint in AAA. He was a pretty touted prospect in Texas who was always a stud with the glove. (also had his k issues, though he did walk alot) Scouts were keen on him if he would ever develop the power. Personally, I think he'll be a 4th OF in the bigs at this point, but it wouldn't hurt holding onto him if the sox go that route.

Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 08:17 AM) Is there a thread on this board where you two AREN'T arguing? Any thread with Greg, Marty or Victory (sometimes elrockin) in it.

2011-2012 NHL Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 10:24 AM) BTW, did anyone see Saad had 4 goals and a helper last night? Had 4 points tonight. 1g, 3a In 5 games.. he has 8 goals, 5 assist (13 points) Also a 5 game goal streak. Kid is tearing it up. I would think he's off limits in a big deadline acq. if the Hawks go that route. Also that Yakupov kid is gonna be crazy good.

2011 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 23, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) And it also guaranteed them an extra $5 million in costs just to pay his and Hoyer's salaries. ... So at the end of the day your goal is not to win the World Series and worry about finances later, but not do a thing every season and rack up the big bucks... got it.

2011-2012 NHL Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 10:11 AM) That stop he made in third period was just robbery. I rewatched it like 3 times on the DVR before they came back from commercial. They didn't trade a first round pick for nothing to get him (and a big gamble at that, since they were in the lottery last year). They are very high on the guy. Ridiculously athletic. And that reminds me, Kruger just can't buy a goal up here.

Worst Farm System in Baseball
QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Or could it be that they are actually better at baseball than we are willing to give them credit for? We hate on a guy like Nic Punto because he beat us a few times as a Twin, but then admire how the Twins "do things the right way" in their minor league system. You can't have it both ways. Yes.. defensively. You could be bad in one area of the game, and be solid at the other to help stay in the league. Of course they are better than most. They are in the MLB (and 80% of them hit in the minors to earn their keep). Punto is starting because of his + UZR defense. If he hits, it's a bonus. You can't have a bunch of Dan Ugglas (08, 10 version) out there and expect to dominate.

We might hear a few stories about NBA players (and not in a good way) if this lockout continues.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) The PP could use some work. It's almost identical to the way the cup winning team was that year. Strong PK, below average PP.

Worst Farm System in Baseball
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) Albert Pujols covers up a few problems I'd say. He covers up about 2-3 starter players problems. I'll steal a south park quote, there is always a "turd in the punch bowl" in the W.S. (possibly two)

Who will reach 100,000 posts first?
They both destroy soxtalk's bandwidth and they both fight in nearly every thread (unless it's with Marty/Victory/Greg, etc. then they agree) with both stubborn to get the last word in, so obviously it'll be southsider (though personally, I hope Balta catches him. Mike's been at the top long enough over the years).

Worst Farm System in Baseball
As much as I hate our farm system (and overall philosophy as an org. regarding the farm) our farm system is not worse than the Marlins.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) This isnt the same Carcillo I saw in Philly I think he is going to win over alot of Hawks fan hearts (especially Steve and JoeCool since they hate him the most here) when this year is all said and done.

Happy Birthday SoxAce
Thanks for the wishes guys. (and also J4L at PM) Usually every year (since I was 14) I would get rowdy and usually find myself somewhere on the floor, someone's yard or at a friend's basement/apartment after the night, but this year is different. I work night shift the whole week and I'm calming down on the drinking. Must be this mid 20's thing I'm going through now..

Sox drafts more productive than perceived.
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) I won't argue with the foreign markets bit, but we seem to be turning the corner in player development. It was really nice to see rookies come and contribute right away this year. I hope that is a product of Buddy Bell and a sign of things to come. I think some posters wouldn't say as much about the sox farm if guys we drafted were still here and producing/not traded. (the Hudsons, Gios, Youngs, etc.. of the world) Sox have a few guys contributing on MLB teams that were a product of their system. Not saying their system/philosophy needs some work (it obviously does) but they are not as terrible as perceived. A classic hit or miss, just like any other system (sox just have a different approach to potentially selling high/low on one for a priced vet or trading one with or without a vet for another team's prospect i.e. Danks/Floyd)

KW personally scouting in Latin America
I'll let Flash chime in on this, but I believe it was the Dominican Republic that was more of an issue of the sox lack of a talent find. (much more very good Dominican players/prospects than say Cubans or even Venezuelans, another issue) Hence the whole "where's our Liriano" saying a few years back.

Ozzie Fires Back
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) I'm actually pretty impressed Ozzie kept it that clean and respectful... Was thinking the same exact thing. He could of made it alot worse and alot more media "frenzy'd" if he wanted.

2011 World Series Thread
It'll be interesting though if the Cards win it how this effect Pujols' decision in any way. Going for Texas though. Always like to see a team win their first World series title, plus they have Kinsler who was a favorite of mine to watch in college.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 12:40 AM) I don't know how you can overrate Suh. Maybe if you said he was the best defensive tackle of all time. I haven't seen a defensive player have that type of immediate impact in a really long time. He is ridiculously good. Gets double teamed every game he plays in (obviously means he's a big part of the opposition's game plan) and he still gets to the QB (might not sack him, but still gets a hit/hurried pass and for a QB in a game, that's not what he wants)

CONGRATS TO THE 2011 PTC WINNER!
LMFAO! I got a Jeremy Reed white sox autographed baseball card and a $50 beggars pizza gift certificate. The Reed card is pretty worthless for many (including myself since him as a Baron is god-like in my standards ) but the thought of giving me a Reed card was very cool. Appreciate it Jeremy and thanks for the gesture. (except for this Anthrax after I opened the mail, how do I get rid of it?)
