May Catch All White Sox Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) People that are great human beings usually are outstanding judges of character. Meh.. that can go either way in either case. I personally think guys who are just good human beings/people more or less have a good heart. Hell I consider myself a good person, but one of my closest friends is the nicest, good hearted dude I've ever met and he has some friends who are pretty much assholes (alot of times to him). But he just has a good heart to look past some of that scrutiny, and his friends love him even if they mess with him.

May Catch All White Sox Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) I see guys like Mark and Jim Thome adoring Ozzie, and it makes it a hell of a lot more difficult for me to believe what guys like Nick Swisher have to say about him. I don't think there's a single manager those two guys wouldn't like. They are both just outstanding human beings and better teammates.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) I can't agree with you about Jermaine and Jenks. I agree with Jason 100% from what he said actually, and really it shouldn't be surprising.

The Soxtalk Committee on Closing
QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Greg, to be honest, no one in Chicago gives a s*** about the Sox right now. Between the Blackhawks and LeBron, those are the two main stories. Heck, Ozzie's kid ripping on Peavy got absolutely no press. To be fair... Ozzie vs Joe West actually got alot of press here and on sports networks FYI.

5/27 GT: Sox @ Tampa Bay - 6:10pm CDT
QUOTE (Real @ May 27, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Quentin is a bust Ya your already wrong. You are considered a bust when you haven't done s*** at the MLB level at all, especially when you are/were considered a top prospect. Now... you can call him a one year wonder, a guy with a fluke season, injury prone player who was amazing for a season, etc.. but bust players don't go .288/.394/.571/.965 148 OPS+ (5th in MVP voting, though would had won if he didn't get injured) in any year.

HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
I had Hawks in 5 against Nashville (they won in 6) Hawks in 6 against Vancouver (correct) and I had Hawks in 5 against San Jose cause of the great match-up style (they obviously said f*** it and won in 4) I'm gonna say Hawks in 5 against the Flyers.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) They're not, don't worry. I'll be stunned if they don't take a college pitcher with their first pick. Ditto. I'd bet a ton it will be, as me you and DirtySox have been on that bandwagon for a while here. I'll say pitcher first, position player (toolsy OF or perhaps a stud SS that happened to drop who they like) with our next pick.

Anyone ever take a job in another state?
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ May 26, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) lol, but Gary has one of the best casinos (Majestic Star) in the Chicago area. A "little" crime in Gary aint gonna stop me from going there. One of my closest friends is a security guard at that place. I still have not went to Gary to go there, though it isn't just cause of the area. (hell I grew up in South Chicago)

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) Mark might end up getting some time off as well... Unless it's a 5 game suspension, Buehrle won't even miss his next start.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) Ozzie's going to enjoy his 2 game suspension for those comments. Good for him! Usually I would be ecstatic, but Joey Cora gives me much more stomach pains. He is just terrible.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) But...only an .812 OPS in May. 1.085 in April. You still just proved wite's point. A .812 OPS in a month is a great month for alot of players.

5/26 GT: Sox @ Cleveland - 11:05am
QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 26, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Wow. This thread has degraded fast. I blame Jenks. Everyone was getting along fine until his ample duff came in and nearly blew it. Now there's arguing and fighting and people nailing each other's moms. What the hell? No idea myself.. and I didn't even catch the game. As for the whole clubhouse argument, maybe I need to pull the whole article on Don Cooper 1 on 1 to end this discussion, as I just put the thing that stuck out to me I've had on the top of my sig (the sigs change, that quote doesn't) for like 4 years now.

Sample sizes suck, but just trying to be an ass here... (same # of ABs) Castro: 6 GMs- 2/15 0 2B 2 R 0 HR 2 RBI 2 BB 5 SO 0 SB 0 CS (.133/.235/.133/.369) salary: 800K Lucy: 7 GMs- 5/15 3 2B 2 R 1 HR 2 RBI 2 BB 3 SO 1 SB 0 CS (.333/.444/.733/1.178) salary: 400K To Castro's defense though (pun kind of intended there), he has a better percentage of runners thrown out though not sure which pitchers each guy has had as I'm too lazy too look that up.

NBA playoffs thread
Suns just evened up the series at 2-2. Can only help Phil's decision (whether that is retirement, leaving somewhere else, etc.) if the Lakers somehow lose. Amar'e really wants to get PAID.

5/25 GT: Sox @ Cleveland - 6:05pm CDT CSN+
This team is just too inconsistent. Hopefully we can at least win this series, but very disappointing we couldn't sweep a horrid Indians team with two of their better players on the DL. Win one, lose 2, win 2 lose 3, etc.. etc..

5/25 Games
QUOTE (danman31 @ May 25, 2010 -> 10:11 PM) I made this same mistake earlier. He has yet to allow an earned run, but has given up three total. Ah my mistake. Still pretty nice to see though.

Does the recent success of Ely and Gio Gonzalez
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) Again, this is a classic example of overrating OBP. You aren't going to walk in the winning run from second base. In fact, Swisher being too patient and looking for the walk cost him and the team a lot of important potential hits. Sure, that .350 OBP looks decent. But no matter who you are, a .200 BA isn't going to cut it over the long haul. It is virtually impossible to ever prove a point to you (or other posters who value batting average) in regards to OBP/OPS/etc over the years so I won't start now. I will say this though, I agree with you in regards to the trade.

5/25 Games
Jimmy Ballinger (flying under the radar here) has yet to allow a run (21 IP) this season. Pretty cool to see, especially for a guy who is in an age appropriate league.
