  1. If the Rays turned down Martes, Tucker, Paulino, +2 prospects for Archer, then that would be my starting point for Quintana, except I don't want Paulino. I listened to the TalkingStros podcast with Jim Callis. Callis called Quintana underated one moment, then called him a solid #3 another. And his job is to evaluate players for a living. The host suggested Fisher, Paulino, Moran and the #75 pick. Q would out perform that.
  2. Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 2m The Texas #Rangers suddenly have increased their pursuit for #WhiteSox ace Jose Quintana, but still unknown whether they will pull off deal.
  3. Nate Jones is 31 and has Tommy John surgery. Giles was 26 when he was traded and a clean bill of health. Jones is cost effective but will be 35 in the last year of his contract. If we could get the Giles deal great. That being said, if you sell at the trade deadline, it's possible you get more.
  4. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) That is assuming that those specific proposals are out there and fit into the White Sox rebuilding plans We should not be the side of negotiations pushing to get a deal done, the buyer should. He should not be moved unless we are getting premium prospects in return, including at least one "untouchable" From the rumors we have seen the asking price is "three elite prospects", and I highly doubt the Sox move off of that ask as they have no reason to. Getting desperate will only lead to a mediocre return. I do believe we asked Houston for Musgrove/Martes/Tucker and got turned down bv the Astros, and asked for Meadows to headline any deal with the Pirates. We are essentially asking for three top 50 prospects, which is not crazy I doubt any of the offers on the table are laughable. I also don't view the Sox taking the best offer as desperate. We have to weigh our own risks in this process as well. Quintana's return is a huge key to the rebuild. If he get's injured or digresses, then that would be a huge hit to the rebuild process. Martes was picked up from the Marlins as a throw in. So just because the prospects involved aren't on a list yet doesn't mean we are settling.
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) Perhaps, but I don't see any way a deal gets done without Torres or Frazier headlining They have other interesting players in their system, but I feel Mateo and Judge are overrated Sheffield's frame leads me to believe he will be a reliever. How many 5'10" starting pitchers are there in the mlb? Less than 5% of all starting pitchers are under 6' tall Kaprelian is coming off injury, Rutherford is at least three full years away from the majors and is not enough to headline a deal I don't see a match right now There are four outcomes as I see it. 1. Sox trade him before SP, get awesome package (A, B, 2 Cs). Similiar to Eaton/Sale deal. A would be Meadows, Albies, Torres, Frazier. 2. Sox trade him before SP, get good package. (3B + 1C) 3. Sox trade him during season, get awesome package (A, B, 2 Cs) 4. Sox trade him during season, get good package (3B + 1C) 5. Q get's injurred 6. Q value goes down. If you look at the probability of each and compare it to the return of each, then I have to think you choose 2 if 1 isn't out there.
  6. Q will go to the Yankees. They have a ton of prospects they can include without Torres or Frazier. That have the the greatest need for a SP between Atl, Pit, and Hou.
  7. Interesting how high Glasnow and Keller are. There was a Q for Glasnow, Keller, Newman rumor floating around twitter. More intriguing based on ZIPS rankings.
  8. QUOTE (striker @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) If you want to scout the Astros more... https://twitter.com/BaseballAmerica/status/...813247561109504 @BaseballAmerica #Top10Prospects Podcast: @jjcoop36 and @johnmanuelba wrap up the AL by talking @astros ? bba.am/9GUpWl This was a great podcast. 1. Astros have a lot of prospect depth. Manuel and Cooper talked about how the Sox could go after quantity (5-6 prospects) rather than quality (top 2 +). 2. This rebuilding has me scoping out every team's prospects. It's nuts how much depth some of these organizations have. My first thought is how inept the Sox front office is, but the Astros, and some of these other organizations with depth, seem to be exceptions to the norm.

  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) The uncertainty of performance works both ways. To act as if some new market development changes the fact that more players will be available now as opposed to July is something I can't take on. This. The Quintana trade is a very key piece to our upgrade process and not worth the game of holding onto him. Quintana's value can go down (performance or injury) just as easily as any of the prospects we get in return. I can take that risk with trading Frazier, Abreu or Cabrera, and Robertson, but I wouldn't with Quintana or Jones.
  11. There's not a doubt in my mind Quintana is traded by spring training. I think any of Bautista, Saunders, Trumbo, Wieters signing could get things moving faster (I think the Rockies are in on Wieters and Trumbo but could move to Quintana if they lose out on either). I also bet that any deal on the table now is pretty good, but Hahn wants better. Quintana's value won't be any higher than it is now. The free agent market next season is full of good pitchers, which means that a lot of them could become available at the trade deadline as well. The QO penalty has changed, so there will be more demand for the free agent pitchers since there is no risk in losing a first round pick. Quintana will have less control once the season starts and there are the risks of injury and regression that would bring down his value. You can take that risk with Jones, Abreu, Frazier and Robertson, but not with Quintana, whose trade is going to be very crucial to the success of this rebuild. I bet the Pirates, Braves, Astros and Yankees have all offered at least one top 3 prospect plus others. None of them have another direction to take for a SP, so there is no risk that they'll take their offer off the table or those prospects will no longer be available. So Hahn can only benefit by waiting. Just my opinion.
  12. This is why you ask for three elite prospects http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2016/3/9/...e-retrospective
  13. Anyone else think trading Q is holding up trading Robertson, Jones, etc.? As they could be added to a deal to push for top prospects.
  14. QUOTE (Username @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) Hopefully the Smyly move gives the Astros some anxiety. Would love to see Trumbo or Hammels head to the Rangers as well. Takes an arm off the market, possibly two now as I assume it's less likely Rays trade Archer.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) and nobody knows if Meadows and Bell will even be special. It's ridiculous that Pittsburgh isn't even willing to trade one of them. Their off limits by the fans. I haven't heard anyone in the know say that is actually the case.
  16. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) Likely we are looking at something along the lines of: Glasnow/Newman/Keller or Martes/Tucker/Paulino as the two offers on the table Sox are rejecting both of those. Neither the Pirates or Astros seem to want to include more at this time to beat the others offer, and both are a ways of from working out. I'd reject both of those, sign Bautista and Saunders and make things interesting in 2017. Trade everyone at the deadline.
  17. It is interesting when Yankees, Pirates and Astros fans say that Quintana is not worth the prospects. They could conceivably keep Quintana for 2 years and still get a haul for him in 2 years if they flip him. They run the risk of his value going down but that same risk could be said for hanging onto prospects.
  18. Great site for scouting prospects http://mlbfarm.com/player.php?player_id=65...amp;position=RF
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) I really think a deal happens with the Astros pretty soon. I'm going to predict a Martes, Tucker, Reed, & Laureano package. That may feel light to some, but Reed was a top 30 prospect just 12 months ago and Laureano appears to be criminally underrated. Short of the Pirates offering Meadows, I think I take that deal, although I'm pretty high on Tucker. I like that deal but give me Stubb's over Reed. CA>1B
  20. Abreu isn't under contract for three years, he opted for arbitration. This could be appealing to teams because it reduces their risk if he under performs ( they can not issue him a contract) plus it limits his cost if he does perform. 2months of Beltran cost Dillon Tate+, so I'm sure the return on Abreu could be a couple top 10 prospects, including a MLB top 30. I'd be asking for the Eaton return, but minus Giolito, plus a different top 10. If I can't get that now, I keep Abreu and gamble on him improving his performance.
  21. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) Glasnow, Newman, Hayes and Diaz would be a pretty good return from where I'm sitting if the Pirates insist on not including Meadows. The only issue I can see with Newman is whether he's ultimately blocked by Anderson and Moncada. I'd love Bell as a second piece, but would be pretty surprised if the Pirates moved him. That is underwhelming IMO. We'd need 5 pieces in that deal. I'd rather trade with the Astros if we are going for quantity over quality.
  22. My preference is SS, CA, CF, SP. My wish list for two main pieces: 1. Yankees - Torres, Rutherford 2. Rockies - Rodgers, Dahl/Tapia 3. Pirates - Meadows, Glasnow 4. Astros - Martes, Tucker The Astros have the least exciting top 2 main pieces but they have a lot to offer with additional pieces. A lot of B/B+ prospects http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/12/12/...spects-for-2017 I don't like the Pirates as a partner if the second piece is Bell. 1B, DH, and corner OF positions are the most plentiful in the market every year.
  23. I wonder if the A's could be a sleeper for Q. Barreto, Puk, Holmes and Chapman are all intriguing.
  24. Sickels Pirates top 20. Rates Keller higher than Bell. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/12/31/...spects-for-2017
  25. The reason a deal hasn't happened yet is because the White Sox are asking a lot, and the teams that have the prospects (NYY, PIT, COL, etc.) are all waiting for the price to go down. They are all "good" teams as is, so they don't feel rushed to make a trade. It will come down to when/if Hahn decides to pull the trigger on the deals that are on the table.
