The key stat that is missing is L or BS. Who cares if we score 10 runs if we don't win the game.

We now have 4 starters with ERAs over 4, 3 of which are over or close to 5. What do you think the problem is? Do you think they lost their desire to win since they already have a ring? Do you think the offense has been so good (stunk last year) that the pitchers feel they can slack more? With all this talk about us getting relievers, I'd rather get a top starter. Even if we made the playoffs, I wouldn't feel the confidence in this pitching staff I had last year.

So many people have cried in the past about sacrificing prospects for current big leagues. Pitching is more important than offense. We already have one of the best offenses in baseball but our starting pitching is still questionable outside Buehrle and Contreras. Two of our starters have ERAs over 5 and one over 4.5. If anything we need to upgrade our starting pitching. Jason Schmidt would be a nice addition and we could probably dump Vazquez if we ate some of his salary and some prospects. Keep McCarthy in the bullpen and bring him up next year after letting Schmidt walk.

Vazquez sucks. He throws BP everytime he pitches. His fastball is not what it was in Montreal. Dump his ass.

Freddy Garcia has nothing on his fastball. He's getting traded.

That's the problem with the bullpen, one bad pitch can make your whole outing look bad when in fact you pitched good. You don't have another 5-6 innings that day to redeem yourself. Look at Vizcaino last year. He had that 1 outing that he gave up like 6 runs in 3 innings and it made his ERA balloon. Overall he had a great year, but that one outing made him look bad. A bullpen pitcher has to have a totally different mindset.
