QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Yea of course - would Anthopoulos? Depends on how they feel about Kelly Johnson. That said, I doubt AA would part with Drabek. He was the centerpiece of the Halladay trade.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) Barber and Bell are both plenty good. They're not 20-25 carries good. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) The point is you can no longer switch major league resources to the draft and international free agents like the Pirates and Royals have been doing. So yes, the draft and international free agency is still there and is definitely important, but they're already budgeted for and that budget can no longer be significantly increased. So again, if we can support a certain payroll while we rebuild, what would suggest spending that money on? You can, they'll just be penalties. And forgive me for not giving the Sox a pass due to the new CBA when they were no tip Pip cheap for so long when they could've taken advantage. Scouting will be even more critical. They need to devote more resources there.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) If they're going to rebuild - then they won't be winning anytime soon and I'd imagine that we could get 3 prospects back for each of Santos and Ramirez. So, why not unload Santos and Ramirez for a nice haul of prospects? I agree. Though less about Ramirez. But it's much more imperative to deal the other guys. You can't wait for the perfect haul for a guy like Danks or CQ.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) So let's say we are guaranteed to break even with a $70 million payroll no matter how competitive we are. You still think it would be stupid to resign Buerhle to a 3 year deal? What else are you going to spend this money on? I don't see a problem having a guy who will eat 200 innings and be a positive clubhouse leader and mentor to all the young pitchers we'll certaintly have. What would you suggest we spend this money on? Obviously the draft and international free agents are no longer options. I'm really curious to hear what you'd do. How are they no longer options? lol. s*** is a little different now. But they're still there.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) If they're going to gut the team - then ya, there's no reason to keep him around other then giving the sales department some ammo for ticket sales... I just don't see them gutting the team. To me gutting the team would involve trading off nearly everyone. Konerko, Q, Danks, Thornton, Floyd, Santos, Ramirez... Package in Rios somehow if you can. Hope Peavy shows up in the first half and give him away at the deadline. Hope Dunn shows up in the first half and give him away at the deadline. I don't see that happening but I could see them in classic "in-between-mode" where KW is trying to "add valuable pieces to put them in a place to win now and set them up for the future." To me, such an in-between place would be keeping Mark and trading Danks, Q, and Thornton. Do I advocate for such a path? No. Do I think it's possible considering JR and KW? Totally. You don't trade Ramirez and/or Santos unless you're overwhelmed due to the fiscal-friendly, team-controlled contacts. The others are all fair game because they're getting expensive and/or are set to hit free agency. The White Sox are not spending another $130 million to finish in third/fourth place. They're not going to add anything of consequence, even if they don't make any trades.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) Actually saying the Bears had as good a chance as anyone to beat the Packers is saying a lot. The Saints in Lambeau dont really stand too much of a chance. The NFC is pretty crappy outside of the Niners, Saints, Falcons, maybe Dallas? I like the chances of an AFC team in a neutral setting beating GB much better than an NFC going into Lambeau. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) They were moving the ball well enough to score on the Packers defense. Combine that with a turnover oriented defense and I think the Bears had about as good a shot as any other team in the NFL. Which isn't saying a lot. At least the NFC. The Saints might have a chance because they can get into a shootout. Bears had their chance last year. -
Like Milkman said, if you're going to completely gut the team (I hope they do), it makes little to no sense to throw $14-$16 million at Mark when you're not going to be competing for a damn thing for at least 2-3 years. Well, other than the sentimental bulls***. Which is no way to run a successful franchise.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Its a real shame, two weeks ago the Bears looked like they could challenge the Packers. Now we score 3 points against the Chiefs. No way in hell. Yes, anything can happen in a single NFL game. But the chances of the Bears going into GB and winning were extremely remote. They're just not nearly as talented. Even when healthy. -

I know Cutler is hurt. But the Bears are really hard to ever take seriously. They haven't fielded a legitimate offense since 19ninetynever. They pretty much go as far as their defense and special teams take them every year. In the 21st century, the game is geared towards the offensive side of the ball. Look at the teams that are getting to and winning the SB of late. Explosive aerial attacks, solid running games, above average defense and special teams. -

This is shades of '03/'04 Bears offensive futility. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) If all he's asking is 3/14 why didn't we sign him to an extension? Rios, Dunn, and Peavy? Yes, yes and yes.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) What do think about the idea of inviting Aaron Rowand to spring training? Give him a chance to make our team. Giants are paying him millions for 2012. Low risk...reward? I don't know. Haven't seen him play in awhile. At worst, White Sox fans can see him in spring training and he might motivate other players. Oh my goodness gracious. I would make this my new sig. But I don't want to part with my current one. This is just horrible. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Can't blame Buehrle for wanting a no-trade. Hell, if these teams knew anything about him, they shouldn't even approach him without knowing a no-trade is a must. I'm sticking with Washington as his next team. I wouldn't mind that at all if he's not coming back here. Stras, JZimm, and Mark would be a very nice threesome.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) Kenny asked for Holland straight up for Danks. The Rangers said f*** no, we need more than that if I recall correctly. Now that makes sense.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:51 AM) Because Texas was going to do Danks-for-Holland last year. I don't recall this at all. If so, make that f***up #4375375362347234734 by KW since 2008.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) Agreed on Beckham. If this is a real rebuild, deal Ramirez and put Lillibridge at short. Holy mary mother of jesus christ. I don't want to see that.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 12:57 AM) I still qualified as a child when Southpaw was introduced... I don't think he knows you're only 12.
-
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) It will never work. Dunn is a terrible center fielder and Rios is a terrible hitter, no matter his designation. I would seriously, no hyperbole, pay to see that. I'd go as high as $500 to watch Adam Dunn play CF just once.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) Didn't see the sub-title, they does change it. As for the video, that's what Mr. Wahls is arguing, is if they can. And I can post stories of kids who want to kill themselves because of abusive straight parents. True. I'm just saying that vid is not some sort of "win" for gay parenting.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 01:20 PM) Where did he claim it as the norm? The question raised was CAN lesbian couples raise a kid. Holy s***, looks like they can. It is implied. The title of the thread says "this is what happens when lesbians have a kid." That's one example. I can post horror stories of kids that wanted to kill themselves over having gay parents.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) No, that is ONE EXAMPLE of when lesbians have a kid. Should people post negative examples and claim that is the norm as well? (You knew I would post this, didn't you?) Exactly. That was the care bears fluff piece version of being raised by homosexuals/lesbians. There's potential (proven) disaster everywhere.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 2, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) Bulls reach out to SG Nick Young: http://espn.go.com/chicago/nba/story/_/id/...ards-nick-young I like TT quite a bit. But the bold is ridiculous. It will be even more ridiculous if the Heat can land one of Prince/Battier as has been rumored.
