  1. God damn i'm drunk. Happy turkey day gentlemen and ladies. i harte every single one of you and wish harm upon all of you. especially a few people. like that witesoxfan.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) Pierre made $8.5M last year? Vizquel around $1.5M? Castro around $1.25M or so? I think we can sign Buerhle using that money. Hear me KW? Sign him! No doubt about it. Just take the money Pierre (didn't get $8.5 from us), Omar and Castro made last year and voila.
  3. Hooray for the 'cash cow' that is college baseball. The new draft restrictions are pretty pathetic. But hey, I guess this helps the Sox. Now more teams will be forced to be as cheap as they've been for the last 10 years.
  4. ladies and gentlkmen oif the court. i'm watching garbabe pail kids from 1986 or 87. oh my goodness this s*** is funny. these costumes are soooooo ridiculous. windy winston is hilarios. all he does is fart. messy tessy reminds of this unkept fishdog lookin neighbor of mind and valerie vomit is somewhat attractive.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) I don't know Alonso that well, but he's a 1b right? I would really hate to deal for a guy that we have to move to RF because he's blocked by Konerko, only to find out that Alonso is blocked in RF by Viciedo. In other words, he better be able to give me numbers that make it reasonable for me to send the Captain packing. True. That's the only roadblock. He appears to be a 1B only.
  6. QUOTE (TheHugeUnit @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) LOL. If we are trading Gardner I'd want more than just Danks coming back... Do you realize just how good Gardner is? The past two years Gardner has a better WAR than Curtis Granderson, Justin Upton, Matt Kemp, Jose Reyes, and Prince Fielder to name a few. He was the 13th best positional player in baseball. Whoa. I like Gardner. But let's not get it twisted. A BIG bulk of his value comes from playing an outstanding LF. He's not better than any of the guys you named.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) An everyday player for a getting-expensive closer? Yes. This is where Marty actually has a point. If you can deal a Santos for a cheap position player or SP with upside (Alonso definitely qualifies), you go for it.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) Neither. He ran him out there because he realized if you want this guy to throw a higher number of innings in the future, he had to put up innings to condition him. Because Ozzie cared so much about the future of the organization. He threw this season well before Humber came back to earth.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) Bautista had a .730 OPS in the second half. Ellsbury should have ran away with the thing. Don't know where you got your numbers from. Bautista had a .896 OPS the second half.
  10. It's going to be pretty sad when Ryan Braun gets the MVP over Matt Kemp. And I love me some Ryan Braun. But Kemp was clearly the best player in the NL.
  11. Dumb. Pitchers should not win MVPs. Bautista should've won.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Reds are looking at Baily as closer and Alonso is being mentioned. Would you trade Santos for Alonso? I would. I'd do that last month if I'm the A's.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) This is the very definition of the air being let out of the sails. I've never seen a Bears offense look like this, and that was 100% on Jay Cutler playing his best football. His movement in the pocket has disguised a bad offensive line as adequate, his throws to open players has made guys who run fast look like receivers, and his improved decision-making and rocket arm had him playing as well as any quarterback in the game. This isn't just "put Hanie in and see what happens", this is tragic. This injury has ended to 2011 season, even if we make the playoffs. Without question, the Bears were improving to the point that they were going to challenge Green Bay in the playoffs, of this I have no doubt. The injury bug has bit hard, and in the absolute worst possible spot. I'm hoping for good news following an MRI today, but we all know what is coming: torn ligaments, best case scenario out until the Wild Card round of the playoffs. That won't happen. Jay Cutler's season ended last night, and with that the most promising stretch in my Bears lifetime. lol. Dramatic much? They weren't going to beat the Packers anyway.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) The biggest reason he got put in there was because of the big surgery and his mediocrity in NY That wasn't his point. He's still spooked, as am I, from whenever we faced the Twins and he was on the mound. I didn't even want to watch most of the time. And this is back when I was an optimist.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) Then he'd say we should "simply" trade Zito. You're not even fabricating. That's what's so sad.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) I'd do it, only because no player has ever struck the fear of God in me when playing against them. Yup. From '04 through '07 that was as auto-loss as it gets.
  17. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) I believe the Yanks would love to have Thornton. I don't believe the Sox would trade him for Romine who is nothing special at all and probably not even as good as Tyler Flowers. It makes no sense. Firstly, the Sox can do much better. Secondly, they would wait to move Matt until the FA's are signed and the market for him intensifies like in January. This wouldn't be an offer that blows them away to pull the trigger on in mid-Nov. It's ridiculous. A lot of teams would love to have Thornton. Just not as his salary. If you look at the Yankees and all their deficiencies, a 35-year old lefty that would be relegated to loogy status at a $5.5 million a year clip is not really all that attractive. I know KW likes to act tough and pretend that he has all these GMs calling him about his players. To me, until proven otherwise, it's all talk. KW died to me when he traded Gonzalez a second time (forget about the Hudson debacle). A shrewd GM would've been able to somehow find a way to snag Swisher without dealing an elite prospect a second time after promising that said prospect was going nowhere this time around. Edit: Let me add that I know it's not KW that perpetrated this supposed rumor. I was speaking more in general terms. KW opens up his mouth and claims that he has all these trade partners. Really? Thornton? Already been covered. Danks? A year away from FA and whatever hypothetical team(s) want him better be prepared to pay him a premium price after '12, otherwise you're not getting much back outside of maybe an A-ball prospect with upside. CQ? Injury-prone as any position player not named Nick Johnson (is he still playing?). Also a year away from FA. Floyd? Definitely an asset. But nobody is emptying out their farm for him. Sorry, KW. You're not fooling anybody. You suck at your job.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) Twenty six home runs would be a huge year for the aging, slow-bat, no pop, no clue at the plate version of Dunn IMO. It'd still be quite the bust considering all his value is solely tied to his power production.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) Then we wasted Jerry's money. Big deal. Like I said, signing Mark or not signing Mark will have NO EFFECT on ticket prices, cost of parking, concessions. I'd rather have Mark get the loot because he was part of the '05 team than somebody else we might bring in. Fixed for ya
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) I still say if the Royals acquired a top flight starter like Buehrle or Oswalt or Greinke they might be in business. They still can't win anything with that s***ty rotation.
  21. Didn't Steff, who's vanished from earth, date Albert? I might go with Balta/Albert just for that. Steff was kinda hot back in the day.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Take a look at what the Yankees bullpen is bringing from the LH side of the mound. Boooooooone Logan. Looking at a world of Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, etc., they could have used an other bullpen lefty this year. That's a lot of coin for a loogy. Even for the Yankees.
  23. I know it's the Yankees. But they've got, what, $30 million committed to Rivera/Soriano next year? Robertson was about as good as any non-closer in baseball last year. Assuming Soriano is healthy, they've basically got innings 7-9 locked up. Thornton at $11 million over two years would be a massive waste, especially considering the issues with their SP.
  24. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) I think they just ran out of gas. They put together an 8 game losing streak towards the end of the regular season and ran into a Cards team in the first round whose farts smelled like flowers (and also lost 3 of 4 to during the afore-mentioned 8 game losing streak). I remember someone (J4L?) being pretty certain this would happen towards the beginning of the season (Kershaw Cy Young). Good job. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...aded&start= Can't really take too much credit, though. Predicting a future CY for Kershaw is like predicting a Balta/2K5 death match over some topic that nobody cares about.
  25. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) I'm at about a 3.14. Speaking of, I'm more interested in pie...you know with Thanksgiving coming up. Depending on what happens with Buehrle, my excitement could increase dramatically or drop a bit. I am looking forward to the winter meetings. Hopefully the ball starts rolling and we have a better idea of what this team will look like in spring training. I want that cheeseburger.
