  1. God forbid we take that 3.75 million and invest it in the draft. No! None of that. Let's give it to a 34-year old reliever on a team that as currently constructed will win about 75 games.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) Those two, Wong, a strong 1b in Adams...not too bad of a farm I like Wong. But he's a ways away. I was referring to guys that could impact the big club in 2012/2013.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) Well, that's not going to happen. We just need to hope that the new CBA will include hard slotting or else we'll continue to be at a disadvantage. Also, having some presence in Latin America (outside of Cuba) would help. Disadvantage? Being cheap is not a disadvantage.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) Strong farm? All I know is that in the last two years their farm has produced David Freese, Jaime Garcia, Allen Craig, Fernando Salas, Jon Jay, Jason Motte, Mitchell Boggs and Eduardo Sanchez. They're doing something right over there. And obviously Shelby Miller and Carlos Martinez are both on the cusp.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman derek lowe was traded to the indians 5 minutes ago If the Braves didn't toss in at least half of the $15 million owed Lowe next year then this was a severe butt-f***ing. Nevermind.
  6. Surprising. Assuming Pujols signs, combined with the return of Wainwright and a strong farm, the Cardinals have a chance to make at least a couple more legitimate runs.
  7. So inspiring. 2012 can't get here fast enough.
  8. Lmao@ this thread. This reminds of the time last year when I was at this party at ISU and multiple alcohol-induced fights broke out. I just stood there and watched. It was oh so fun.,
  9. Beer? Check. Dro? Check. Doritoes and Salsa? Check. Hot as f*** 19 year old college chick? Almost check. This shall be a fun night. Go Rangers.
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Flowers will have to show more development this year or I am betting AJP ends 2012 as the #1 Sox catcher and they are trying to extend him for 2013 and 14. Tyler has been inconsistent to say the least, but showed signs of maturing at the big league level. Hard to judge right now what he might do if handed the job. Talent for sure but he needs to show it on a day in day out basis WTF?
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) You will never see me in the slandering Frank TYhomas camp Um, do you know what slander means?
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) Like who? Name a team. I think we have gone over the list before, and there are few, if any teams that could use him. Pretty much every team in the game has a catcher that is simply better, younger or cheaper. A team like the Rays could use an upgrade. But I'll go to church before the Rays take on his salary. AJ is pretty much here to stay.
  13. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) ha! My parents just got slaughtered! lol!
  14. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Wow, our minor league system stinks... http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...;vkey=news_milb It doesn't stink. It's deplorable. But yay for producing (hopefully) a reliever.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Oh of course. No doubt that is his plan. I guess what I am getting at is, a lot of Cubs fans seem to think that suddenly everything gets better. It doesn't. The major league club is a horrible mess, worse off than most teams, plus a weak farm system. It will take a bunch of years to get them where he wants them to be. I think he knows that, and I think Cubs management knows that... but a lot of the fans don't seem to. This is what I don't get. Who gives a f*** about what Cubs fans think. They needed a GM (I know he's technically the team president. But he'll have a major influence regardless) and they got arguably the best the sport had to offer of the last 10 years. As of right now, there's just no downside here.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) Unfortunately, after the compensation is done for Theo and Hoyer, Theo will have very, very little available to develop in the Cubs system. It is already just about as bad as the Sox have. You don't build a farm up in a few months. And like you said, the current Cubs system is nothing to get loud about anyway. Going forward is the key here. You trust Theo more because he's proven it.
  17. Even if I didn't know a thing about Theo, I still wouldn't be able to help but be impressed by listening to him. And this guy is DEAD f***ING SERIOUS when it comes to scouting and player development. He mentioned in more than once so far in his Score interview. Unbelievable hire for the Cubs.
  18. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) I am focusing on 2012 White Sox. I will do anything I can to help this team. Do the White Sox ever run focus groups? I would gladly give my honest opinion. However, I just read the Steve Jobs and Apple didn't believe in focus groups b/c they didn't believe that the consumer knew what they wanted. They believed and may still believe that they create the product(s) that consumer didn't even know that they wanted. lol! They just figure out what people want...without talking to them??? Hey, it has worked well for Apple. but the White Sox aren't Apple. lol! Don't they want to talk with us? And I am not talking about Sox Fest. lol! Oh my goodness.
  19. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) Probably would be best that this goes to Game 7 since there hasn't been a WS Game 7 in awhile and that would generate some buzz. Would prefer that the Cards win. However, a Game 7 would remind me of Bud's stupid rule change of making the All-Star game counting to home field advantage in the World Series. The Cardinals are a wildcard team with home field advantage. A wildcard team should never have home field advantage unless they are going up against another wildcard team. However, I applaud the Cardinals for taking advantage of this loophole. Go Cardinals! lol! I would like the rule changed. Home field advantage should go to the league who wins the majority of interleague games. You could count the All Star game as another interleague play. In 2011, the American League won 131 interleague games, the National League won 121. If you included the All Star game that would be 122. And maybe include a rule that a wildcard team is always the visiting team unless they are up against another wild card team (then use the interleague wins criteria) Lastly, here is another reason to cheer on the Cards to win the World Series...the Cardinals open their home schedule in 2012 against the c-u-BS! Not until April 13th though...that seems like a late opener. haha! I can't help myself. Why do you "lol" or "haha" after, like, everything?
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 08:05 AM) The Red Sox were the only team in baseball to win 2 World Series since Theo got there, is there anything else you really need to say? I understand that people just like to rip the Cubs to rip the Cubs but there's literally not a bad thing to say about this move. Jim Hendry > Theo Epstein
  21. Unless Twitter gets cancelled in the very near future, this is no contest.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) One of these is not like the other. One of these does not fit. Boozer? Has to be. I know you don't like Rondo. But Rondo >>> Boozer. Edit: I truly don't know which guy you're referring to. If it's Boozer then disregard this post.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) This too. The mediocre and sorry players of today would own the old days. And this is where you guys aren't feelin' me. I get the differences between 60's nutrition and training and today's. It's nature. Not nurture. But I believe even with modern advantages, Bill Russell wouldn't be that great in today's game. Wilt? s***. They might have to change some rules for his ass. But Russell is unquestionably overrated, IMO.
