  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Everyone in Seattle vehemently disagrees. Let them. Beltre was one of the best players at his position for the duration of his time there. Yeah, he never put up '04 numbers. But blame management for expecting numbers like that at Safeco.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) Hmm...I seem to remember advocating this as a great signing... Of course, we'll have to see how he does in years 4 and 5 of that contract... Sure would have been nice had we signed Beltre instead of Dunn...but then again, if I am going to take credit for my good predictions, I also have to man up for my bad ones...and that would have included letting PK walk... Yeah, I still don't like that contract in '14 and '15. There was the 'he only produces in contract years' perception. That's been debunked. Just a really, really good baseball player.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) Other than giving Chris Davis way too many ABs in the majors, no. You look at moves like Colby Lewis, who was pitching in Japan or finding Alexi Ogando after his visa issues. Very impressive. Still gotta give the Rays major props too. With their low payroll & lack of any fan support (not even a sellout today), it is very impressive that they have made the playoffs 3 times in 4 seasons while competing with NYY & BOS. I guess you could say not resigning Lee. But that was A LOT more Lee than Texas. And here they are in the ALCS again, anyway.
  4. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) Pretty much every team in MLB has a message board somewhere. Check them out sometime and you'll see that all the teams have fans that complain about their manager. I'm sure you could find lots of Twins and Red Sox fans that think their managers are the worst ever. See, greg hasn't polled anybody in Minnesota or Boston. But he's polled many in KC. And the verdict was: Ozzie is a great manager.
  5. Heck of a run by Tampa, though. Can't take that away from them. Lookin' forward to a full year of Matt Moore in '12.
  6. Adrian Beltre is some kinda player. Have the Rangers, like, done anything wrong since Nolan Ryan became team president?
  7. lmao. Of course Ranger was in there spewin' his bulls***. God I can't stand him. I also see where Rowand said Sale had better stuff than Prior and it's not close. hahaha. Proves fans don't know s*** (me included).
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) Chris Sale officially moved to bullpen thread: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t=0&start=0 Haha. I wasn't sure exactly what I said. But I indeed was consistent.
  9. Thanks, JC, I eventually accepted that Sale was going to start the season in the bullpen. But my initial thoughts were consistent in that I thought he should've started the season in AAA.
  10. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) I don't disagree. Was just sayin'. Loved the pick then, still do now. I just would have preferring him being stretched out during the 2011 season. I missed this post. This is true. But it was simply another case of the half-assed way of running this organization during the KW era. Sacrificing the future for the present. We'd have a much better idea going into '12 of Sale's long-term prognostication if he had started the season at AA/AAA and gotten stretched out. Now we're hoping and praying.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) Beckham wasn't the no-brainer pick that Sale was. Smoak and Jason Castro went right after him. Lawrie did too, but I don't remember anyone mentioning Lawrie as a top 10 pick at the time Sure. I got two words for you: Alex Fernandez The last productive White Sox first round pick. That is so pathetic that I'm going to punish myself with this shot of Whiskey.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) The longer they have to wait, they may be more tempted to just hire someone else. That would be pretty stupid. But I can't put anything past this organization.
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) He was a no-brainer pick where they selected him. Who should they have taken? Just like Gordon Beckham was a no-brainer pick. I don't want to hear it. Stop with the excuses. For years it was draft position. That's been emphatically debunked. It's time to start to hit once in a while on your 1st round picks.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) The last 5 or so statements make no sense. The reason people thought he was a reliever was Health, not stuff. And I he's a starter, he'll be a very good one if e stays healthy. As soon as his arm loosened up and he could throw strikes, hitters had no shot. That part shouldn't change. OTS health that is the worry. Mechanics, frame, etc. There was risk. Even if he has the stuff. The warning signs were there. I'm not going to make a stink about this now. But there's no letting the Sox off the hook if he ends up back in the bullpen.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) That's what he averaged this year as a reliever. It'd be physically dangerous to have him throw that fast as a starter. Wilson lost 3 MPH on his fastball after converting to a starter last season. Sale may be different, I don't know. But a lot of relievers lose at least 2-3 MPH after converting. Ogando only lost 1 MPH on the fastball this season though. And if I remember correctly, Sale had incredibly low velocity to start the year (93-94). In other words, we took a future reliever with the hopes of him maybe becoming a starter. The pre-draft scouting reports were pretty consistent.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) If you want Dave Martinez, you want the Rays to lose as quickly as possible. Huh? Nobody can talk to him while they're still playing. Doesn't matter when they lose.
  17. Wait a minute? Sale's FB is going to drop 4 MPH as a starter? I smell another failed White Sox 1st round pick if that happens.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Rebuild around them. I've written it in other threads so I won't bother everybody by doing it again. Rebuilding this mess will be a daunting enough task as it is. But sweet f***ing jesus christ. You want to trade Ramirez, Santos and just about our entire starting staff, sign Scott Kazmir, and build around a guy that just hit .159, a perennial lazy, underachieving bum and Jake Prior? This would be the worst rebuild ever if you were in charge.
  19. I'd go with any White Sox pitching prospect over Kazmir. Kazmir is so done it's not funny.
  20. It is 12:56 PM Chicago time. And somebody just suggested that the White Sox sign Scott Kazmir.
  21. Greg, can't you just sign up for Ozzie's twitter account and be done with it? It's quite clear that Ozzie is nothing but an entertainment piece for you and actually winning baseball games is a distant second on your criteria of what makes a good manager.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) It's safe to say the outcome of today's game could impact when the Sox have a new manager. How so? There's a game tomorrow no matter what.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Can we look for our top prospects on other teams lists? If we can then we can think what might have been Um, what?
  24. Damn, I couldn't read the article anyway. It's in Spanish (yes, I know Josh said this already). I overlooked that initially. Still, Omar, stfu.
