Get it over with and let Buehrle go to Yanks/Red Sox

I'd off myself if they got Friedman. A dynasty (within the division) would be on the horizon. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 07:52 AM) Well, we still have to rank ahead of the Astros, Cubs, Dodgers, Orioles, Mariners and probably the Mets. Although that's not saying much. And the sleeping giant on the northside could quickly reawaken with the right GM and manager in place and "stats-first" players like Ramirez and Soriano gone (yes, he has the same number of years as Dunn/Rios but the Cubs' new GM will be more likely to have the freedom dumping him than anyone the Sox have in that position vis a via Rios/Dunn/Peavy). After today, there's about a 90% probability we'll be 7 1/2 GB. There might be teams more clueless. There might be teams more directionless. But NO team, IMO, is more clueless AND directionless than the Sox. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 07:21 AM) I would agree. It's impressive that he is tied for the NL lead in wins with that offense. The Dodgers may have the Cy Young winner & a top 3 MVP finisher, yet are 10 games under .500. 1.21 ERA in his last 10 starts. The guy just gets better every year. What is he, 23? Sick.

The time to trade anybody was before the deadline. But we were 'in it,' ya know. Our sparkling second-half record under Ozzie over the years was proof enough that a run was imminent. Whoops! This is the most clueless/directionless organization in baseball right now. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 12:11 AM) I think it'd take a miracle for KW or Oz to return. The only way is if Jerry is so thankful about 05 he actually begs them to return. I know nothing about Jerry but he is old and I guess it's possible he's so thankful he got one WS title when a lot of his owner cronies will never win one, that he begs them to come back. In other words, it's possible he may not care. I think the odds are 95 percent to 5 percent that Ozz is off to Florida. And 99 percent to 1 percent that KW is gone as well. Bye bye. New manager? I want Lasorda. For the love of the Devil, please tell me you meant LaRussa? -

QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 04:17 AM) Hasn't this been proven false on numerous occasions? I believe that option expired in 2009. This is true. And you're not going to get anything worthwhile for one month of Mark Buehrle. -
Oh, Clayton Kershaw is the front-runner for the NL CY, IMO.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:48 PM) While I agree the trade was awful, he is batting .237 in his career at the major league level. He is having a good couple of weeks since being sent to Oakland, but why linger on guys that are gone? Nothing you guys can do about it. .237 in about 150 ABs sprinkled over the course of three years? He's finally getting a chance with Oakland and he's producing. His minor league resume predicted as much. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) The thing that makes me laugh about everyone b****ing about ex-prospects, is that there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO guarantee that said prospect would ever develop under the White Sox the same way they are on other teams, and vice versa on guys traded to the Sox. Sometimes it's a scenery thing. Having different coaches telling you different things. Different ballparks. Hell Different weather.... You never know with ballplayers. Excuses, excuses and more excuses.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 08:42 PM) Brandon Allen doing a nice job of getting himself a starting spot for Oakland next year Thanks for that. I'm even more depressed now.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) Yeah, at this point, it would be a minor miracle for him to become a major prospect again. Thompson is far and away our top outfield prospect besides Viciedo. League-leading 171 Ks in 455 ABs. There's nobody even close in the Carolina league to that total.

Phillies just having one of those years. Vance Worley? Really?

Don't like our chances at all today or tomorrow. -
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) According to BP (I know) the Sox playoff odds are currently at 13.1. Steep, but not hopeless. The Tribe, who we are now tied with, are at only 3.5. I have to think the Sox odds go up swapping Thome in for Dunn, but that's probably more unlikely to happen than winning the division. And somebody please help me with J4L's photo reference, which I don't get at all. The kid looks like a young MJ to me. Ever see "Angels in the Outfield"? That's the "it could happen" kid.

This kid disagrees with Milkman.

Figures there'd be a thunderstorm on such a dark date in history.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) How is Verlander not the sure-fire Cy Young? At this point, he deserves MVP votes. I was at SOSH and a lot of the fans there are hoping Cleveland or the Sox win the division simply because they don't want to see Verlander. They better stop hoping and get on their knees and pray.

2-1 Detroit. Can't believe the years they've gotten from Avila/Peralta.

Would You Sign Danks to the "Weaver" Deal?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) Correct me if Im wrong, but your boy traded Stewart for Rasmus. Or are you going to rewrite history that he never had Stewart and couldnt have kept him? (edit) Steve, Its just as ridiculous as j4l claiming that somehow his boy could have signed Danks. Absolutely no evidence to suggest it being true. He either gets a deal done or he trades him at peak value. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) Best GM in baseball gave up up a 160 era + for a 76 ops +. Its limited sample size but im pretty sure if the roles were reversed youd be calling Kenny the dumbest man alive. As for Danks, might as well trade him because no way are the Sox giving him 5 years. Rasmus >>> Jackson -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) What makes you think Boras would have let Danks sign a similar contract that Romero did? Other than succumbing to AA's hypnotic powers and charming looks? Danks was obviously not that enamored with Boras. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Say the Sox bring back everyone for next year. Here's how i think the starters will rank at the end of the year: 1.) Sale 2.) Danks 3.) Floyd 4.) Buehrle 5.) Stewart 6.) Peavy 7.) Humber That top 5 has potential. One problem is Peavy is going to have to pitch and be paid. If you think Peavy can come back to something resembling his NL form, they can withstand the loss of Danks. This is simply NOT going to happen and the sooner Sox fans realize this the better.
