  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Really, you didn't think we'd be the worst by far? I'm stunned. The Braves must get to first base and down like 4 shots of whiskey to celebrate. Well it's not like I watch all 29 other teams. I watch a lot of non-Sox baseball. But c'mon now. I just like having statistics agree with my eyes. Makes me feel better.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) sounds like his PR machine is starting some spin already, if they lose, well LBJ was sick, if they win and he plays well it was a triumphant performance.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) That is pretty significant. 81 at bats? C'mon now. Ozzie just being dumb.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) I'll give Ozzie some slack for stacking it with lefties, because Masterson's has been great against righties and not very good against lefties, it's actually pretty significant. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2011&t=p Morel has been swinging a solid stick for a week or so now. He's the future. They need to see what he can do. Dallas Mcpherson is only here because another terrible player went on the DL.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) My immediate reaction to Morel's HR last night: "Wow, he is so getting benched for that." And you wonder why the "pessimists" have no faith at all in this team. We're led by a, well, a f***ing idiot.
  6. I wish I had a bookie. I'd be all over Masterson tossing a no-hitter tonight.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) Is Tyler Kuhn a prospect? Hitting .352. OBP over .400. He plays all over the field. Has some speed. Bats lefty. What am I missing here? Sample size and the fact he's already 24. Kuhn was a guy I was excited about going into 2009. But he didn't do anything of relevance. Certainly nothing to deem him a top prospect. He doesn't have a particular tool(s) that jump out at you. If he can keep this up for a full year then MAYBE you have something. And let me emphasize maybe. But it's not going to happen. He's got like 5 career HRs. He's not going to maintain a .500+ slg%.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Well the Indians are going to fall back down to earth. They've had an easy schedule and have had an unsustainable amount of walk off/we shouldn't have won this game type of wins. I look at the team and I don't see a 100+ win team. In fact, I'd be surprised if they played .500 ball the rest of the way. They are going to have a slump or two and even if they maintain a .500 pace, we could catch them with good solid baseball. I just think we're so used to the Twins being the ones to deny us year after year that we can't fathom maybe another team getting the best of us. Nobody in this division is going to win 100 games. s***, the Yankees or Red Sox are not going to win 100 games. It might not even take 90 wins to take the central. We jumped out on everybody in '05 and nobody took us seriously until we were in the ALCS. It could be just one of those years for the Indians. But they've definitely put us is a big hole.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Mods do you know? Definitely qwerty. He offers absolutely nothing to this board.
  10. God I love Baseball Prospectus. I've been looking for a stat like that. Too bad you have to pay for their s***. Yup, the baserunning has been every bit as bad as I/we thought.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) None at all. If we got rid of 2 pitchers and tossed in the season, I'd want to see Humber stay in the rotation to find out if he can roll this for a full season, and I'd want Sale in AAA. Galaragga has a solid fastball slider combo but has zero consistency on his release point. He's the kind of guy who might work well in Cooper's system. Maybe it's a 1/20 shot, but answer me this...who else do we have who deserves a shot at starting for the big league team? There's no one from AAA who deserves a spot. Well by that logic throw me or you out there (and don't take that literally). We have the worst collection of SP in the minors. But Galaraga? No thanks.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) Of course, as soon as people start talking about Remenowsky like he should replace T-Pain, he gets rocked. Seems to happen a lot around here, as soon as we "notice" a player. Wow. Yes, he got tattooed.
  13. See how mature/evolved I've become? I got rid of the horror that was that sig. I'm keepin' the avatar up. You just going to have to deal with that or put me on ignore.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) So what do you suggest the Indians' record will ultimately be? 111-51? No. Just like the Twins have never won 100 games. But a big winning streak, something like 15/18 or 17-20, will probably be required at some point. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Reeeeally tired of having "SHES 18 NOW!!!" visible to others at my workplace Speaking of age limits though - would be nice to have one for this board I didn't like that Dawson's Creek crap, either. lol. And I will take this down soon, anyway. This isn't a keeper. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) I don't care how many games we gain on Cleveland right now. I care only about how many we gain on .500. Get me to .500 first then I will start looking at the record. Hopefully we get to that point.
  15. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) Sox are 7-3 in the last 10. 3-0-1 in last 4 series. They are playing better and don't need some insane run to compete with more than 4 months left in the season. And we've gained, what, a game? It will most definitely take an "insane" run to overtake the Indians.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) If we sold off everyone and traded D1 and Jackson, sure, I'd see what Coop could do with him. No green?
  17. Mr. perfect game was designated for assignment. Didn't a few posters want to take a flier on him?
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Given up on Taylor already? Pretty much. His star has fallen considerably the last year+. He's already 25 and appears to be injury prone.
  19. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) Bad example, but it would be following the Jim Thome "plan" from a few years ago. The Sox dump him at the deadline with the thought/plan on bringing him back the next year. Of course that didn't work out, but I don't think that was Thome's fault. Like you said, bad example. Thome was not going to command a 5-6 year deal and $75-90 million dollars once he hit FA.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) How much of that rotation do you expect to stay healthy the rest of the year though? True. But Oakland doesn't have anybody outside of Green that would interest me. I don't think they'd part with him.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) I don't expect any of the big 3 to be good at "Beating people up", and I don't expect the role players they need to have on the floor (Miller and Johnson) to be good at it either. Their rotating C's might be, but half of them are ancient or hurt. Jones? And I did this on purpose. As I'm sure that was a typo. But you are the most literal poster I've ever seen. If I just randomly said 2+2 is 5 you would correct me and say 4.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) From the track record KW has, do you really think if this team is sitting at .500 he is going to blow it up? Not a chance in hell. And that's a bad thing.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Playing 2b down in AAA is what the doctor ordered. His swing is a complete and utter disaster. Guy is whiffing at breaking pitches and can't touch a good fastball. If there is one thing I'm sure of, it is that I want Walker gone. I don't blame him but even while we are winning, I've seen too many bad at bats and seen some of our young guys swings get worse under his watch. Oh, I agree with this. Lillian suggested moving GB back to third. I don't think that would be in his best interests at all. I'd give GB another couple weeks to show some improvements (and where we are in the standings would factor into this as well). If he's still doing his best Steve Sax impersonation, it's time to send him down. You've seen teams like the Blue Jays and Giants send down top prospects such as Travis Snider and Brandon Belt. This just can't continue. GB is crucial to this team's success, or lack thereof, going forward.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Agreed...but you have to be patient. There are 119 games left! I'm not arguing with you that any game isn't big at this point...but you have to accept that we probably aren't going to win 25 out of 30 games and find ourselves tied for the division lead in a month...therefore, we are going to lose games. We just have to start winning more games than we are losing at a fairly decent clip. We are doing that lately. Not much else to say. I can agree with this.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) Not to mention, I simply can't enjoy the game I love, thinking that every single game is a must win. So what I do, is sit back and hope to see the club play good baseball and I know that if they play good baseball, they'll be just fine. If they don't, they don't, and they have no one to blame but themselves and we'll see significant changes made. Either way, I'm not going to go crazy and say if we lose game X that the season is over (unless game X is game 162, haha, or any playoff elimination game). I'm not going "crazy." And I'm not sitting here and treating every single game like Game 7 of the series. But I just can't get with the blase attitude of "Well, there's still 100+ games left, there's plenty of time to make a run."
