  1. Man, y'all need to leave greg alone. That's my boy. He pisses me off. But he's like the little brother you can't stand but would bust the ass of anybody that picked on him. lol.
  2. QUOTE (35thstreetswarm @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) Fun fact: The Twins were .500 on this date in 2006 -- 11.5 games out of first, 10.5 games behind the second place Sox -- before riding a couple hot starting pitchers to a 96 win season and division championship. I know, I know, they're the mighty Twins, they of the 5 division titles in the '00s to the Sox measly 3 (and a World Series ring). But a kid can dream. That's a s***ty ass fact. Makes the 2006 debacle even harder to swallow.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) Hanley, Lincicum, Pujols, Strasburg, Heyward, Fielder, Ubaldo, Fielder, Ichiro are probably the most exciting for me. Last year Gordon Beckham obviously. When he's on, Gavin Floyd is just a delight to watch. I love watching Halladay pitch as well. As far as all time, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson and Barry Bonds are top 3 for me, no doubt. Is Fielder so fat that he's 2 people?
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Other than Lincecum and Halladay, has there been a better pitcher in baseball since July of 2008 than Josh Johnson? This guy is absolutely amazing. I can't think of a more underrated pitcher in baseball. Josh Johnson's line since July, 2008: 30-8, 2.95 ERA, .237 BAA, 1.15 WHIP, 8.3 K/9, 2.5 BB/9, 3.30 K/BB. This is over almost 400 innings pitched. Outstanding talent.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) So the Yankees aren't interested anymore? I just love it when the Yankees own the Twins in every facet of the game, including stealing players. With the emergence of Hughes and Javy pitching much better of late, do they even need Lee?
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 01:30 AM) I've only mentioned him twice in that Cubs thread. He rapes the Cubs when he sees them yes (though I rarely catch Cubs games and rarely talk about them at all), but I like his game. Now Dexter Fowler, Cole Hamels, or Miguel Cabrera on the other hand.... well.... call me their stalker. Twice? I must be smoking too much weed then.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 12:58 AM) Well I was one of the first on the Berkman bandwagon since the off-season (still like him a bit.. I mean who would want to be up to play for a terrible Stros team?) but since I'll "jump the gun" here or "play along" in this thread with the sox playing well, one name I like (maybe it's because I think he is underrated) and who can fit more financially for the sox (with the same versatility Ozzie likes) is Garrett Jones. Man, what is with you and Garrett Jones? Your obsession is very similar to that of Glenn Close's with Michael Douglas.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) 5.5 games back in third place is in the rear view mirror now? All we as Sox fans can do is be thankful we're not in the AL East. Toronto would almost certainly be leading the division in the AL Central, but they're in 4th place. And all the Sox can do is keep on winning. Remember when Tampa was on that '27 Yankees like pace? If the Red Sox win tonight, they're in a virtual tie. It's a shame one of those three teams are going to miss the postseason (I hope it's Boston).
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Well the comment is kinda like Krause saying "organizations win championships." It's true but players will get mad hearing it. I think LeBron's brain is saying Chicago (or somewhere) and his heart is saying Cleveland. Right now, he is just looking for any perceived slight to push him in a certain direction. The Cavs have handled the whole thing very poorly. Kobe 5 rings. Lebron 0. This is our only hope. That he's insanely jealous of Kobe's success and realizes that a #2 man the caliber of Rose and a Rodman-like rebounder/defender/enforcer like Noah immediately puts him in the best position to win a title in 2011.
  10. Other than Lincecum and Halladay, has there been a better pitcher in baseball since July of 2008 than Josh Johnson? This guy is absolutely amazing. I can't think of a more underrated pitcher in baseball.
  11. QUOTE (striker @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) How about Gavin Floyd for James Loney? I just threw up in my mouth. A .750-.775 OPS 1B is not what I'd call an upgrade.
  12. I don't get all the "I don't want to get my hopes up" talk. What's the worst that can happen? We end up sucking again and we're right back where we were 2 weeks ago. It's just baseball. Let the good times roll.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Troy Glaus keeps Atlanta's ridiculous stretch of good baseball going. Not including last night's game, he's sporting a line of .319/.402/.572/.974 since May 1.
  14. There should be a required criteria for creating a thread. I feel a lot stupider after entering this thread than I did coming into it. And that's saying a lot.
  15. Phillies have a ton of problems right now. f***!
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) I am. There's no reason our starting pitching should have ever been worst in the AL. But it was. Our offense, yes I could've guessed that. BUt the point stands - in 2001 we had a 22-7 run to roar us back to .500 and over. This is the wonderful part about being in the AL, june can serve as a downhill slope in a marathon. Hopefully it can slingshot us forward. I think an offensive addition at this point (ala 2003 - except get actual good offensive players) could really pick the team up. I'd rather not just say "see, we're fixed, this is how we were supposed to play." I think I'm getting hang of this. You'll know what to do with your AL team after June. If they couldn't do anything during interleague to pick themselves up (if previously struggling), you are f***ed. Unload, play for draft, bring up your young'ens. If you succeed against the weak NL, then diagnose what is still plaguing them during those times and try to fix it. So yes, our pitching (strength) is back. Now what? I understand the skepticism. I'm certainly not elevating this team as one of the top teams in the AL. Not yet. But just a couple weeks ago it looked like 2007 all over again. We're playing meaningful baseball again. That feels pretty f***ing good. The pitching is finally dominating like expected. Offense is still a major question mark. Will see what happens. All I know is we have the most aggressive, and most importantly, ballsy GM in baseball. If this team continues to play well, he'll bring in some offense. No doubt in my mind.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) I want to move Beckham to Charlotte, not to SS. Today's suggested move: Viciedo to starting at 3b, Vizquel to 2b, beckham to Charlotte. Viciedo's going to be lucky to get a game a week ahead of Vizquel if Omar only has 3b to play at, and hell, Vizquel's outhitting Beckham by a lot lately. Plus, calling up Viciedo and benching him is as stupid of a move as you could possibly come up with. I agree. I just know there's been some people on here that for some reason think a move to SS will get Beckham's bat going. lol. Beckham is not even in the same stratosphere as Ramirez defensively.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) His offense is well below average right now though. I know it. I've been pretty hard on Ramirez the last two years. I don't expect '08. But I expect more than what we've gotten the last year and a half. But I'll take the GG caliber SS.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) god this reminds me so f***ing much of 2001 Dude, just shut up (and I say that respectfully) and enjoy the run. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) If only he could stop striking out on three straight pitches. True. But his defense is to a degree offsetting his mediocre offense. Anybody who wants to move Beckham to SS needs a serious reality check.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) From the 6th inning on, he dominated with his fastball. You K Ryan Zimmerman 4 times, you know your stuff was sick.
  21. Our ace (no hyperbole) came to pitch. This is what Kenny was talking about when he said a lot of good times were ahead with this guy leading our staff. Oh, and is 'Lexi playing a pretty f***ing mean SS or what?
  22. That's the ace we expected. Peavy is so good.
  23. Oh, and for those who want the DH abolished, look no further than David Ortiz and Vlad Guerrero. I f***ing LOVE watching those two hit. Much more fun than watching a pitcher hit, I think.
  24. For all the attention Strasburg and Jimenez (rightfully so) have received of late, check out what my one and only true pitching love, Clayton Kershaw, has done his last 8 starts: 7-1, 1.82 ERA, .187 BAA, 54.1 IP, 36 H, K/9 10.08.
  25. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 11:52 PM) I'm just saying Jenks fully deserved that criticism. Did not! He was on the 2005 team!
