5/25 GT: Sox @ Cleveland - 6:05pm CDT CSN+
Outside of Choo, the Indians are sporting a lineup comparable to a s***ty AAA team. If Jake doesn't shut these guys down, I will declare the trade a bust. I'm lying. But Jake better bring it tonight.

Phillies scouting Jenks and Putz
QUOTE (smalls2598 @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:19 AM) No doubt. I was thinking more of the playoff active roster; i should have been more specific I knew what you meant. I'm just inclined to give one of my childhood idols his proper due every chance I get.

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ May 25, 2010 -> 07:35 AM) I think you hit the nail on the head.... Sox fans "on here" see the 2005 as a team that jelled together, got the timely hits and pitching to win the World Series. The team really wasn't full of All-Stars, but more of players who nearly ALL played above their career averages in one hell of a season. However, if you talk to the "casual" Sox fans who don't visit this board, I almost guarantee you that they still think Pods, Rowand, Crede, etc are gods. As for the Jenkins/Banks/Williams love....come on dude, they're Hall of Famers; they deserve to be cherished by Cubs fans. I'm pretty sure everyone will agree that no one from the 2005 Sox team really has a chance to be a Hall of Famer. Frank is a first ballot HOF.

greg, you are indeed my favorite poster. I don't agree with about 87.8% of your opinions. But you speak from the heart. Me likes.

This Indians team is terrible (outside of Choo). It'll be downright embarrassing if we don't sweep.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 24, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) Gameday has Jenks at 98. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 24, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) This was 97mph according to the U. If Bobby's throwin 97-98, Broxton's throwing 106. I'd say Bobby is around 93-95.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 24, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) "Gordon > Teahen"? As lousy as Teahen is (and he is!), at least Mark is in the Major Leagues. Gordon isn't, and for good reason. He's been every bit as lousy as Teahen has been up until this point, and with plenty of sample size to prove it. Their poor performances at the Major League level to date are actually fairly similar. And that begs an interesting question: why is one of them in the minors right now, and then why is one of them the STARTING third baseman for OUR team! Again, I was talking 2007 and why Mark was never going to be a full-time 3B. Not what's going on right now. Andy Laroche played a pretty good 3B for the Pirates last year. But I can guarantee you that when it's time for Pedro Alvarez to come up, good bye Laroche, at least as a 3B. It was the same situation in KC back then.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 24, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) And Teahen would have been blocked at third base in a similar way as our 2008 #1 shortstop pick was stopped at shortstop on our team (i.e. there was a superior position player at his position). But no, by then, Teahen had already been diagnosed as a deficient third sacker and thus shuffled off to other positions, so replacing him with a first round draft pick was a no-brainer for the Royals. And not to mention, but Gordon has been no great shakes to date, either, and yet the Royals chose to divest themselves of Teahen for a bucket of balls before Gordon, so that tells ya somethin', too! Gordon > Teahen. This is not hard to understand. Gordon was undoubtedly their 3B of the future. It has nothing to do with what Teahen could or couldn't do. And how would you know what the Royals had "diagnosed" back in 2006? And I already know Gordon has yet to establish himself. That's of no relevance. I'm talking strictly going into 2007 and why Teahen was never going to be a full-time 3B.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 24, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) Two words: Mark Teahen. He came along a few years before Gordon did. Had Teahen established himself in any way, shape, or form before then (which he didn't), Gordon would not have been handed the position on a platter as quickly as he was. Alex Gordon being the #2 overall pick and the consensus best position prospect in baseball at the time had a little something to do with that. And Teahen had his best season the year BEFORE Gordon got called up. 3B was going to Gordon regardless.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 24, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) He had plenty of time at that position over the last FIVE years to come to that conclusion already. Key word being "exclusively."

QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) Teahen has just horrific footwork at 3rd base. 8 errors for someone with no range 40 games in is pathetic. I wanted to give him a full year exclusively at one position to truly gauge his defense. But to this point, we may as well have Wilson Betemit over there.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 24, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) If anyone is interested (J4L.. ) they are gonna air Strasburg's start tonight on MLB network against Detroit's AAA affiliate. You, sir, are outstanding. I flipped from the Sox game as soon I read this post. I got to see Pedro Alvarez for the first time last week. Now Strasburg. God bless MLB network. They took him out after 52 f***ing pitches? Pathetic.

NBA playoffs thread
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ May 24, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) Brown is a terrible coach. The problem with Orlando is that they Dwight needs to develop a post game and Matt Barnes should not be counted on as your tough player on the court. They could use a true enforcer like Nocioni and a true leader. Turk was a leader, but he was not an enforcer. And honestly, if they kept Turkoglu this year, they probably would've had a worse year. Even last year, he wasn't good until the 4th quarter in terms of efficiency. This year he was worse. And ask Toronto how much leadership he brought them. The key is always going to be Dwight though. Is he going to turn the corner and turn grimey or is he going to let other people bump him off the low block and/or throw up wild shots that are prayers? Tyson Chandler has a better offensive game. Hell to the no. But your point is understood.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) Keith Law has us taking Asher Wojciechowski, RHP, The Citad Says Sox are looking for college pitchers who won't demand huge money. I asked someone about Austin Wilson today, and said there's no way we're drafting another outfielder in the first round. Who the hell is Asher wowirhdhbfhf? College pitchers who won't demand huge money (i.e. cheap).

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 24, 2010 -> 08:56 AM) It can be a little bit about both. But the difference between what he left on the table and the MLE is no small chunk of change. I can see him taking less, but not 13 million less. We're still talking about one of the 15 best players in the league.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2010 -> 08:24 AM) If Dirk is opting out at this point you have to assume he is willing to take less money to go to a place he can win a title. It wouldn't shock me if he ended up in MLE territory to sign with a team that signs big time FAs. No offense, but you're sniffin' glue if you think Dirk is playin' for anything in the vicinity of the MLE.

QUOTE (pktmotion @ May 24, 2010 -> 12:58 AM) to ameliorate (third-person singular simple present ameliorates, present participle ameliorating, simple past and past participle ameliorated) (transitive) To make better, to improve; to heal; to solve a problem. They offered some compromises in an effort to ameliorate the situation. Go to class and don't fall asleep. I was messin' with ya. That's just not a word you hear or see ever in life. Even Thunderbolt wouldn't bust that word out.

QUOTE (pktmotion @ May 24, 2010 -> 12:31 AM) I was thinking about this in relation to the Jenks-Phillies speculation. If the Phillies get Jenks and his money, they would surely want to get out of a large contract of their own. I was intrigued when I came across Blanton because he's essentially the same pitcher as Gavin. Innings Eater/Strong Arm/ Back of the Rotation guy. He's owed $5 Mil more than Gavin over two years (not including Floyd's club option: $9.5). If the White Sox could get Blanton for Jenks. Then turn around and deal Floyd to the Brewers(for either prospects or as a cornerstone to a Fielder trade) it could be a strong move. I don't know how much Philly values Blanton, but that extra money off the books could ameliorate Howard's contract and go long towards bringing back Werth. What the hell?

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 23, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) Forget Mayberry. He's another right handed hitter. This organization needs to find a left handed bat. How about someone like this: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=502126 L.M.A.O. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 23, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) Jenks, Putz, Linebrink and money to cover most of Linebrink's salary for Domonic Brown. Maybe throw Mayberry in too.
