  1. JD is going to have to throw 0's the rest of the way. Looks like Liriano's FB velocity is back to where it was in 2006.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) Pierre LF Beckham 2B Quentin RF Konerko 1B Jones DH Rios CF Vizquel 3B Ramirez SS Lucy C Beer inning.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 07:15 AM) Indians catching prospect Carlos Santana went 4-5, double and two homers. Lou Marson is not long for that job. I still can't believe they got Santana for Casey f***ing Blake.
  4. Looks like Andruw Jones has become Hammer's Tyson Chandler aka most recent obsession.
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) I don't forsee Coach K ever leaving Duke. He had a chance in '99, then after Floyd was fired as well. I'm 100% sure, he won't leave Duke where he already makes a ton of money and he's king of the world. Kobe wanted him after Phil left in 2004. IIRC, the Lakers made a play for him and he obviously declined. K is no fool. He knows where his bread is buttered. He'd get pwned in the NBA.
  6. The minor league opening day thread was booming last year. What a difference a year makes. lol. Nice to see some of our top prospects getting off to good starts. Real good to see Escobar have himself a night.
  7. So what's gotten into Vernon Wells?
  8. I remember watching "Poetic Justice" simply because 'Pac was sporting a Sox cap.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) Carmona and Masterson have the potential to be very good pitchers for the Indians. I think people are underrating them. If Brantley and LaPorta continue to have good at bats, the Indians can be a solid team. They might have the second best offense in the division.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:48 PM) Would anybody have bet we'd not win this series after that efficient if not spectacular Game One performance? I assumed 2-3 and hoped for a sweep. Not with Peavy and Floyd pitching. But that's why they play the games. And the Indians aren't nearly as bad as some think anyway.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) I wouldn't say it's the last thing we need. Hochevar turning into a great starting pitcher (extremely unlikely to begin with anyways) isn't going to push the Royals into contention. The last thing the Sox would need would be for Quentin or Beckham to get hurt (knock on wood), for any of the Twins starters jumping to an elite level this year, or the Tigers to somehow be a great team. Shut up. And I hate you. I get your point. I guess I phrased that wrong. Obviously, the Royals aren't our main competition. But Hochevar was the #1 pick just a few years ago for a reason. If that FB velocity is legit, there definitely could be something there. I guess I have a thing for high first round draft picks that, while talented, have yet to fully put it together (I guess this started for me when we acquired Gavin Floyd).
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 07:59 PM) Always hate when we send the runner with 2 strikes and 2 outs, as that's got to be distracting. CQ has looked awful since the 2B on opening day.
  13. Looking forward to some Tommy Hanson tonight.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) For those of you who were wondering what A's fans have to look forward to in the following decade look no further then Brett Anderson. He's going to be scary good. I concur.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) 5 year, $30 million for Gallardo. Teams aren't wasting any time getting their young talent locked up.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) Hochevar was throwing gas last night. Got it up to 98. Yeah, he was rather impressive. His FB was consistently at 95 MPH. That's up over 3 MPH from his average FB velocity last year. Not sure if he just had extra juice because it was his first start. I noticed he induced a s***load of groundballs. Last thing we need is for Hochevar to break out and team with ZG to form a nasty 1-2 for KC.
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Just like Erstad brought a leadership role and grindy to the leadoff role. Just like Mackowiak did as a starting CF instead of a good utility guy off the bench. Just like Wise did as the leadoff guy and starter. You can't really get on Ozzie too much about the Mackowiak situation. Nobody could foresee Brian Anderson doing a Doug Dascenzo impersonation with the bat. And other than moving Pods to CF, there was no better alternative.
  18. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) So you're basically comparing two completely different scenarios, without regard to the context. Gotcha. Yeah, pretty much. It was a random hypothetical question. I didn't feel the need to break down how the Rays were constructed or how they differ strategically from the White Sox. I gave a simple answer to a simple question. The end. That was my response to, "How would people around here act if we had Gabe Kapler in RF?" Obviously Kapler would be a pretty big downgrade from CQ. That was obviously Lenord's point. I'd take a downgrade in RF for the massive upgrades at multiple other positions. That was kinda the point. Again, this is all make believe and hypothetical. Dude, I know Oregon f***ing sucks (I've been there and I wouldn't wish that place on my worst enemy) but are you bored or something? THIS IS NOT REAL! IT WAS A HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION! No need for some extensive analysis. Actually, I wasn't comparing anything. I answered a simple question. Cheap talent that you ultimately have to pay. Nobody stays cheap forever. As the Rays are about to find out. So, yeah, money trumps all. I cited the Royals and Pirates as teams that perennially have top draft picks every year and have continued to sucks for years. Obviously, there's a lot more that goes into that kinda ineptitude than botching draft picks. But it shows that having top picks continually doesn't guarantee anything. Just like spending a lot of money doesn't guarantee anything. But your chances of getting to the postseason consistently are better with deep pockets. This is nice. Still has no relevance.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 02:19 AM) Why get so upset? I'm not crazy about Kotsay and Jones, the two oldies. I probably should have come up with a name. This may sound dumb but I'd rather see Nix get their at bats than those 2. He didn't get upset. But your comment was kinda ridiculous. You'd rather see any random name from our paper-thin system instead of Kotsay/Jones just because, um, just because? That's not what I'd call a viable solution. Jayson Nix as our full-time DH? Try again.
  20. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) http://bit.ly/9y3q9I Really appreciate the good work you've done with the previews, OB. I have to say the state of the system is a little worrisome right now (especially with the Mitchell injury). I'm not sure this team is in a position to trade away the few quality prospects we have for that big bat will almost certainly require.
  21. That article was kinda depressing. Not a whole lot to get excited about (Jared Mitchell's injury f***ing sucks). And I think it's safe to say that it's put up or shut up time for John Shelby. He's going to be 25 in August. It's getting to the point that he no longer can be considered a prospect.
  22. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 11:56 PM) What did Teahen do in the field that was so bad? He almost air-mailed a routine throw to 1B. Other than that, he just doesn't look real comfortable over there. But it's only been a couple games. I'm much more concerned with the offense as of right now.
  23. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 11:51 PM) What don't you understand about the term? As a manager, you must make decisions during the game (in game) and deal with things while before and after the game. He can't handle a bullpen for s***. His use of pinch hitters is a joke. I'm so sick of his lefty/righty BS. That's all classified as "in game." He cannot make a lineup to save his life. On the other hand, Ozzie is great at managing while there is no game going on. He is exceptional at dealing with the media and keeping the pressure of his players. He is a straight shooter when it comes to the game and his players. He is very good at motivating his players and getting the best out of them. So that's the criteria for managing a major league baseball team? Sign me up! I can do that for a lot less money than what they're paying Ozzie.
  24. QUOTE (CarlosMartinez @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) Why? He's 0-4 with 2 k's. Kotsay may not be the answer but neither is Jim f'ing Thome. Um, what? I have no response for this comment. Damn, but I guess I did technically respond.
  25. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) Lol at the Cubs bullpen. Blew a great game from Dempster. You're going to see quite a bit of that this year. That bullpen is absolutely appalling. And I think it's safe to say that the Tommy John surgery didn't effect Billy Wagner's arm one bit. That fastball was exploding. And if his slider is workin' like that all year, 45-50 saves should be a foregone conclusion.
