2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread
Bottomline is if Ted Lilly is your second best starter, you're not much of a legitimate contender. There's no way in hell Dempster is going to keep up anywhere near the pace he's on. Lieber and Marquis both stink. No telling when Rich Hill will be back up. Sean Gallagher? They really have no pitching depth. And it'll be next to impossible for them to trade for any good pitching before the trade deadline. One, what they hell do they have that anybody would want (the days of molesting the Pirates appear to be a thing of the past)? Two, you have to go back to the Astros and Randy Johnson in 1998 for the last time a "contending" team was able to land an impact starter in-season. It doesn't happen very often.

How does one look at the Cubs rotation 2-5 and not burst out laughing? And some consider this team a legitimate contender? I don't think so.

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
Can we all just give Floyd his proper due and be happy for finally getting a win? Nope. This is Soxtalk. Let's b**** about defensive replacements and pitching changes. That's Soxtalk.

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
His curve was scary good tonight. I think it's one of the better pitches in all of baseball when he's gettin' it over. The stuff/talent is undeniable. Maybe the "change of scenery" myth does indeed apply in this case.

I salute Mr. Floyd.

I'm shakin' like a leaf. Potential no-hitters are so damn nerve-racking.

Anybody know of any good Philly message boards? Their fans can't be too pleased right now.

The Twins' hitters look totally helpless against Floyd.

I hear you loud and clear, SS. That night was pretty much the worst mistake I've ever made. I haven't gone anywhere near a car when hammered since then.

J4L is headed for the slammer
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) Was that your first DUI? And what did you get pulled over for when you were driving on a statutorily suspended license? Seems a little harsh that they would actually give you 10 days in jail.... Yes, it was my first offense. I got pulled over for not signaling while coming out of a fast food joint (basically the cop was f***ing with me). Because my suspension was based off a DUI, it carries a harsher penalty when caught driving. I was given the option of entering some SWAP program for 30 days instead of jail. Only thing is I'd have to complete over 200 hours of community service. Plus I would've been on supervision for a year. So I just went with the jail time.

J4L is headed for the slammer
Just got back from court. I will be sentenced to 10 days in CC for driving on a statutory suspended license (it was originally suspensed for driving drunk). Anyway, I've never been in actual jail before. I'm a little nervous. Has anybody from the board spent any time in jail? What should I expect? Are the "don't drop the soap or else" myths true? Any info will be appreciated.

Can anybody give me any info on Condemned 2: Bloodshot for XBOX 360? The trailers are the s***. I live for games where I can kill fools. Anybody ever played it? Is it worth buying?

2008 MLB Catch-All Thread
Find me a post where I said Floyd or Danks are the real deal based off nice April's and I'll never post on this board again. But atleast with them they're young and there's upside. There's no upside with Dempster. He's just not that good.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) Yeah, that 3.16 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and .173 batting average makes me think he should be out of the rotation. 4 of Owings 6 starts have been against the offensive powerhouses of the Giants/Padres/Dodgers to account for a 4.66 ERA. I like Owings, but he wouldn't even be higher than a 5th starter in the AL. LMAO. You are so full of it sometimes. Ryan Dempster's career ERA as a starter is well over 5. s***, it might be over 6. And you're slurping his ass because of a few decent starts? Lou has been babying his sorry ass all year. Taking him out just before he's about to get slammed. How many times has he gone past the 6th inning? Once? And you want to talk about competiton? He's faced the Pirates twice and the Nationals. Not to mention a Brewers team that's fallen way short of offensive expecations. He could be sporting the exact same numbers he is now with the Sox and you would be saying s*** like "it's a fluke" or "it's just a matter of time before he's exposed." Just admit you like the Cubs. It's not that difficult.

Of course you would. He's a Cub. If he were on the Sox you would demand that Kenny/Ozzie be fired for having him in our rotation.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 3, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) I wouldn't want to face anyone in that Diamondbacks rotation anyways though. Owings is without question better than anybody in the Cubs' rotation save Zambrano. And he's like their 4th best starter.
