  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Thome is an excellent defensive 1B, and most players hit better when playing a position. Plus, I bet Thome is happier getting a few games in on the field. True. But he is 35 and at a greater risk for injuries. I want him at DH for most if not the whole season.
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) I like Gload, but your bench can't just be about bats. With the Sox likely to carry 12 pitchers, you only have 4 bench spots to cover the diamond. Widger, Mack and Ozuna are your 3 in. Who is the fourth? He needs to play OF, and Gload doesn't seem to be that good out there. Do you want Gload playing OF 2 or 3 times a week? Because that is what that roster slot would be doing. But like I said, if he shows up in camp and can show he is defensively at the same level or similar to Borch in the OF, then I'm all for keeping him instead of Borch. I just think that is unlikely. A lot will depend on if the Sox go with 11 or 12 pitchers. That's true. I wanna see how both Borchard and Gload perform during the spring before saying who should get the spot. If Borchard hits .150, I don't care that he can play the of, he shouldn't be on the team.
  3. Favorite players= Speedy Claxton, Chris Paul, Kirk Hinrich, Tim Duncan, Steve Nash and Kobe.
  4. Tyson is playing great now. But he doesn't get a free pass for underachieving for as long as he was because of it. I know he said he was out of shape and such. But who's fault is that? Anyway, I see no reason that Tyson can't continue playing like he is the rest of the season and beyond.
  5. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) Im watching NBA TV, their is a big Watson Trade going around with 4 teams swapping mediocre players. Involving Sonics, Trailblazers, Nuggets, And some other team. Yeah. The Sonics get Watson, a 2nd round pick and Jordan stopper Bryon Russell. The Nuggets get Reggie Evans, Ruben Patterson and Charles Smith. The Blazers get Voshon Lenard and Vitaly Potapenko.
  6. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) I'm glad the distinction between Gload's value to a team that needs a backup 1B and his value to the Sox is being made. Like others have said, it isn't that Gload isn't a useful player to have on the bench for only $350,000, it's that he isn't useful to a team as deep at 1B as the Sox are. IMO, the utility in keeping Borchard around is much greater than the utility in keeping Gload around. Well, for me, I don't want Thome playing first base. Anything that can increase his chances of playing a full season is good. He should strictly be a DH. So Gload could be the back-up first baseman. Let Mack handle all the other positions.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) He's useful if he can hit like he's done for the past couple of years... He'd probably be the best bat off the bench if he were to make the team. Agreed. I don't know why people hate Gload so much. Yeah, he can't play the outfield. But he has some good value. A bench of Mack, Ozuna, Widger and Gload would easily trump the 05 Bench. Sorry Willie Harris fans.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) That's the sort of thing that would make me find another team to root for. LOL. C'mon, Balta. If you're a true Sox fan, and I know you are, they could sign Osama Bin Ladin and I know you could never turn your back on the Sox. I know I couldn't.
  9. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) I think AJ is a good example here. Most Sox fans couldn't stand him when he was with the Twins (I was one of them). And lets be honest, it was for good reason. The guy was an agitator and still is. Thing is, he also plays hard, puts up good numbers and is one of those guys who you love when he's on your side. But either way, performance is usually the determining factor as to how a player is recieved by fans. If Barry Bonds was a crappy ballplayer, even Giants fans would hate him. Exactly
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) People make WAY to big of a deal out of these things. Im fairly positive Mark didnt look for Cowley and tell him to write how bad the Tribe are going to be. Im sure he was asked what his take was on the Indians, and he gave the answer he believed. The got rid of the ERA champ and a speedy .300 hitter. I dont know if Mark is to far off based in his remarks, nor should it be a problem he said anything. I have no problem if Hafner or V-Mart think we got worse cause we lost Rowand and El Duque. He has every right to feel that way. Hafner and Martinez would be lying, though. Mark was telling the truth. On paper, the Indians aren't as good as last year. Does that mean they won't be as good or better when the season starts? Of course not.
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) I rather have Gload. I think people are way too in love with Borchard around here. I agree at this point. I do want to wait and see what Joe does when the exhibition season starts.
  12. The Heat have traded Gerland Fitch to the Rockets for Derek Anderson. I have no idea why. And the Cavs have picked up Ronald Murray.
  13. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) IMO, the hype was pretty low-key this year compared to years past... I don't know about that. I've heard of atleast 10 different deals involving KG. There was talk that guys like Pierce or Allen could be moved. Odom and Boozer were in different trade scenarios everyday. Lot of other small deals that didn't happen. This trade deadline was a bust.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) I for one would be furious if I had a guy on my team who testified that he used steroids, whether willingly or unwillingly. I would be as well. But many would still support him if he's on their team. Steroids or not. Having Bonds are you team gives you a pretty good chance to win.
  15. Very good article. Jenks has certainly been through a lot. But he's definitely persevered.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Nets trade Marc Jackson for Bostjan Nachbar I think its safe to say that all the hype generated by the trade deadline was just that, hype.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Actually...if you accept August as our slump month...the pitching in August was quite a bit better than it was in July. Well, I was thinking August and the first 2-3 weeks of September.
  18. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) We really need a fully healthy Pods. Last year went as Pods went. When he was healthy and stealing bases we won, when he was out we deffinetly did not play the same. I would love for him to get on base a bunch this year for Thome and Konerko. I don't think it was any coincidence we started to slump when he started to slump. That wasn't the only reason. The pitching fell off for a little while as well. But Pods is clearly the catalyst for this team.
  19. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) but seriosuly, if your not a San Fran fan, who really is a fan of BarryBonds.com. True fans are gonna support the members of their team. Think Barry wouldn't be king of Chicago if he was a White Sox or Flub?
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) If he was tipping pitches down the stretch...and still destroying Boston and Texas...he might not give up a hit this season. LOL. That's what I was thinking. I wonder if they meant he was tipping his pitches earlier in the season when he struggled. It's hard to believe he was doing that in the second half.
  21. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) dont trades get announced as late as 5 PM because of delays in approving them in the office? Yes. As long as the trade or trades is into the league office by the deadline.
  22. The Yanks don't scare anybody anymore. Not with that mediocre staff.
  23. Pods was our clear cut MVP the first 4 1/2 months of 05. He would've easily stole 80 bases had he been healthy. This is great news.
  24. MSU is seriously underachieving. That team has way too much talent to be so inconsistent.
  25. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) We aren't trading JC unless someone overwhelms KW with a deal. Something I don't think is going to happen. Indeed. Kenny has made it quite clear that unless you're willing to give up some quality pitching in return..don't even bother him.
