  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) Dee Brown. What a night. Our defense shut down Ager all night and Davis but all for about 10 minutes. Only Shannon's shooting kept them in that game in the second half. Someone else has to score, and we need to take shots before 5 seconds are left on the shot clock, or we aren't going to win a lot of big ten games. Thank God he bailed us out tonight though. It was just Dee's game. Augustine has to be more consistent. We need 15 points from him a night to be successful.
  2. I didn't really get into college football until 2001. So, yes, it's definitely the best game I've ever seen.
  3. How good was the Illini D tonight? MSU came into tonight averaging 82.8 ppg on offense. That's good for 6th in the country. Here's the scoring and shooting stats for their top 3 players coming into tonight's game. Maurice Ager: 22 ppg, 48 fg%. Paul Davis: 19.9 ppg, 61.2 fg%. Shannon Brown: 17.6 ppg, 48.2 fg% Here's what they did tonight against Illinois. Maurice Ager: 9 points on 3 of 8 shooting. Paul Davis: 12 points on 3 of 9 shooting. Shannon Brown: 17 points on 6 of 16 shooting. And atleast 5 of those points came at the end with the game already decided. If the Illini keep playing d like this, a return trip to the Final Four is definitely a reality.
  4. Dee Brown and the defense is the story of this night.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 09:24 PM) Still very much alive but Illinois is just playing suffocating d. This game would be over if somebody outside of Brown could make a shot. Augustine is playin like Luc Longley.
  6. Another 3 for Brown. He's smokin hot tonight.
  7. We need more balance in the second half.
  8. QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) The Cavs suck suck suck tonight. Wow it is ugly. They're only down 4. Lebron is so f***in good. 13 for 17 from the field so far tonight.
  9. I'd be all for dealing Broadway if we hadn't already traded Gio and Haigwood.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) But what exactly is your point? If we trade Contreras for Tejada we still have good pitching 1-5 in the rotation and our offense would be one of the best in the majors as well. The offense alone would be able to win games for us which is something they couldnt do last season. Somebody in another thread, maybe this one, suggested that if we were able to land Tejada, that even if the pitching fell off, say Garland went back to his 04 form, that we could still repeat in 06. I totally disagree with that. If the pitching isn't as good or close to what it was last year in 06, it won't matter if we add Tejada. We won't be repeating. Ask Red Sox fans what a dominant offense with average pitching did for them in 2005.
  11. Finally! The Big 10 schedule is upon us. We will soon learn just how good the Illini are.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) How many division titles would we have one if we had the current pitching staff with that offense. I am sorry but when you are marching out a crappy 5th starter that is basically an automatic loss ever couple of games you arent going to win a division with that. We had a bad offense for most of the year last year. We had a great pitching staff, great defense and a bad o. In the playoffs our O got hot at the right time. But to just say, well lets not get an upgrade to the O because we won last year is a bit short sited. Planning on Crede who hits at a .240 to .250 clip and Uribe who was so inconsistant they had to work with him over and over to get him to stop spinning like a tasmanian devil at the plate. If we get Tejada and mix it in our lineup it becomes even better. We get something we didnt have at all last year, a proven .300 plus hitter who has power. He makes contact also, which means that when Pods and Gooch are on, Tejada will get the line moving. It also makes Konerko and Thome better. How many times did we mess around with the 3 hole last year. It was a big problem spot. We can fix that and make our lineup more dangerous. We can also do this without hurting our pitching or our defense. Its a great move if we can pull it off. I don't think you're getting what I'm saying. First of all, we never would've had the pitching we had last year in 02, 03 and 04 and still been able to have the same offense. So that's a moot point. Second, I'm not saying anything is wrong with upgrading the offense. The point is that no matter what we do offensively, this team is still built around pitching. This team will go as far in 06 as Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, Vazquez, possibly Contreras and the bullpen take us. We could add Tejada and Pujols for that matter, if the pitching isn't there, or god forbid somebody gets hurt, we won't be repeating in 06. This is as close to fact as it gets.
  13. If anybody takes what Kenny says when it comes to trades or signings at face value, then you haven't been paying attention the last 2-3 years.
  14. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) I think Vince may have moved to the top of many draft borads yesterdau ahead of Bush and Leinart. Bush still looked great against a great team, but not amazing. While, Young seemed on another level than anyone against a great team. Isn't Young stayin at Texas another year?
  15. Very good news. I'm lookin foward to watching this guy play.
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 05:47 AM) Well, the state of Texas will be in a good ass mood today!!! What a year they've had. They win National titles in baseball and football. The Spurs win the NBA title. The Astros get to the World Series. I forgot who they lost to, though?
  17. The homer in me is obviously gonna say the Bears. There's no question who the more talented team is. But with a defense the caliber of Chicago's, anything can happen.
  18. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Look at Andrei's stats from last night's game against the Lakers: 14 Points 8 Rebounds 9 Assists 6 Steals 7 Blocks There ain't another player in the league who could put up a statline like that. The Jazz are now 14-8 when Kirilenko plays, and 2-8 without him. His impact is beyond comprehension. They would be really good if Carlos Boozer's pussy would ever heal. He's been out for the longest.
  19. 467 total yards for Vince Young? He's got my vote for performance of the year.
  20. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) Yeah, but you can't win if you don't score. The best teams have balance, and the Sox would have that with the addition of Tejada. An explosive lineup with a top notch rotation. We scored plenty of runs in 02, 03 and 04. We know how each of those season's ended. I don't care who we add, the strength of this team is the pitching staff. If they fall off, it doesn't matter how many runs we score.
  21. If the pitching falters, we ain't winnin s***. No matter who we add for 06, this team will go as the pitching goes. I know KW knows that.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) I'll continue to insist on this site no trade scenario makes sense with ANY team, for ANY circumstance, unless a quality bullpen arm (or quality pitching prospect) is included. I realize Tejada's talent--but if the deal proposed within this site were to occur, we'd still have two holes left to occupy in the bullpen. Is the upgrade of Tejada over Uribe worth worrying about two bullpen positions? Funny, for all the praise given to Marte and Vizcaino's departure, no one appears worried. I just won't settle with Baj/Tracy battling with some journeyman for the final two bullpen positions. Really, I have no problem dealing Count/Uribe/Sweeney/Additional for Tejada if another quality bullpen arm is packaged. After Contrereas is traded, our bargaining chips are practically gone. Tavares/Qualls/Prospect still sounds more appeasing to me. It comes down to this: if given the choice, which sounds more appeasing: 1. Uribe/Qualls/Baj 2. Tejada/Baj/Journeyman. I couldn't agree more. We need need another proven arm in the pen.
  23. Finally, after all these meaningless bowl games, here's the one that actually counts. I think USC is gonna win, but I hope Texas somehow pulls it out.
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) cubs.com LMAO. Wow! Somebody f***ed that message board in the ass. LMAO@the Ron Santo jokes.
  25. I apperciate Kenny more and more each day.
