QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 08:46 PM) My signature I'm ashamed to admit that I had not seen that movie until this weekend. When I heard that line I nearly pissed myself. I loved the "and may god have mercy on your soul" at the end.

For some reason the other day I had a bunch of lines from Monty Python and the Holy Grail running through my head. It was odd because I haven't seen that movie in a few years. Needless to say I had to jump onto YouTube and watch some clips. So that made me think of a good thread. What are you most quotable movies, and what are some of your favorite quotes? For me, The Holy Grail is up there. "Bring out your dead!" "Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?" "She turned me into a newt!" Airplane! of course. "Don't call me Shirley." "Excuse me stewardess, I speak jive." "I like my coffee black, like my men." Happy Gilmore. "How 'bout a nice warm glass of shut the hell up!" "The price is wrong, b****." "You eat pieces of s*** for breakfast?"
  3. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 08:03 AM) Oh, Oh, these chains of love got a hold on me, yeah. One of these mornings the chain is gonna break

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 07:23 AM) Breaking Bad is officially the best show ever. The slow development of Walt's character has been the most impressive act in the history. After he did what he at the end last night we saw some of the old, panicky, scared Walt.
  5. Flowers has huge power (see last night's homerun), but he still doesn't hit for average very well. Obviously it's hard to get a good feel for how he would hit if he played everyday. I would imagine, however, he'd be a .230ish type hitter with 20+ HRs in a full season. He's fine defensively. Overall, I think he'd be an okay everyday catcher. But, I fully expect AJ to be back for at least one more year.
  6. The first 2+ innings of that game were terrible. Dunn got called out on two pitches way outside, and then when Qunitana threw a couple pitches CLOSER than those they were called balls. It was funny how the strike zone changed dramatically after AJ and Robin were thrown out. I'm wondering if Joyce said something to Barrett.
  7. I couldn't find any info on AJ being related to Hawk, but he graduated from high school with Hawk's daughter, Krista, and played baseball with his son, Casey.
  8. I love this line: He talks too much. "He's always sayin' stuff," explains his manager, Robin Ventura. Adds his mother: "His teachers used to say, 'Oh my god, I hear him in my sleep.'" AJ is definitely a guy I'd like to have a beer with.
  9. QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) Who knew that A.J. and Hawk were related? I knew that Hawk has known him for a long time, but I didn't know they were related. Maybe AJ can replace Hawk in the booth when he retires.

Took a chance on Copper on BBCA. Pretty damn good show.
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) This may have nothing to do with the White Sox, but I approve this post.
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) While I should be happy about this possible sweep...why does it annoy me every so slightly to know we just got swept by the Royals, only to turn around and near (and I believe we will), sweep one of the best teams in baseball? Anyway, here's to moving past that damnedable Royal series and taking down the bombers... It's the Greg Effect.
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 12:14 PM) Granted I can't watch a lot of games, but it seems like his stretch call has been more effective this year. It's been more accurate than last year. I think a few times last season he was yelling "Stretch!" and then the ball fell harmlessly into the outfielder's glove, and said outfielder was standing about 5 feet in front of the track.

I just thought of something about Walt and Jesse. It's a longshot, but what if

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:33 AM) An in-depth breakdown of the dinner table scene in last Sunday's Breaking Bad. Goes over directing/filming conventions and techniques and how they're brilliantly used in BB to add realism and tension. That scene was one of the most uncomfortable scenes to watch, which seems silly bcause it's just three people having dinner. But damn did we not feel for Jesse at that moment. I loved how he ends his speech about frozen dinners with a shaky, "Yeah, it's bad."
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) Chicago never started until after Labor Day. When did they change that? I think most schools start in the last or second to last week in August now. It seems like it gets earlier every year, though.
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) I think it's easy for us to sit here and judge, but I can say that if I were famous and spent that many nights a year away from home, not cheating would not be as easy as it is now. No, I can sit here and judge all I want...all of us can. These professional athletes are in the spotlight whether they like it or not. It comes with the territory. Resisting the temptation to cheat would be harder if you were away for a big part of the year, but these guys make a conscious choice to cheat. You or I or anyone else can make that choice, too but most of us don't. It's just too bad that so many of them (most as it sounds) make that choice. If they don't like the constant attention and speculation, don't get married, don't have a family. Because it's the ones at home that get hurt the most.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) Ok so i'm not sure where to put this but it does involve an ex-Sox, Nick Swisher. Deadspin has been running a Q&A with an anonymous sports PR guy this afternoon. He's made contributions before but since he's anonymous who knows the validity. Anyways, I just found the following question and answer humorous since Swish has been kind of a contentious topic here and how he got along with his teammates Q: Best athlete feud we don't know about A: Nick Swisher and his teammates Link is here by the way. Some pretty interesting stuff throughout the rest of it too The answer to the athlete feud question was actually Swisher and his Yankees teammates. However, I would imagine it might have been the same when he was with the Sox. I still think a lot of his problems were with Ozzie. On a side note, I guess most of what was in that interview is not surprising. But it just sucks to see it in writing. It's definitely not a surprise to me that the worst athletes are the NBA players. It's disheartening to read that all of this guy's married clients cheat, but again, I guess it's not surprising.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 01:44 AM) You Oz haters sound like Kansas fans who hate Roy Williams for leaving for North Carolina. All he did at Kansas was win, just as Oz won in Chicago. Don't.Get.It. Aside from 2005 and maybe 2008, Ozzie didn't win in Chicago. He became a joke, especially in the last couple of years. And then he goes to Miami and does the same stuff. I would be surprised if he isn't fired before his contract is up.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 12:04 PM) Yeah, he is like 5'10"/5'11" That's a big difference from the 7'9" or whatever Dunn is. Konerko is what, 6'2" or so?
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) Maybe Viciedo. Hopefully Mitchell, Walker, and Thompson are in the outfield in a couple years. Maybe Keon Barnum at 1b in 4 years, if we're lucky. Good point. I could see that happening.
  22. I'm not sure. I voted for yes in 2013, but I worked through the math too quick. He'd have to hit another 8-10 this year to have a chance. It's possible, but he'd be much more likely to do it in 2014 if he returned. So, what does Paulie do if he has another year like 2012 in 2013? I'd love to see him retire as a White Sox, and maybe that's whatb will happen after next year. So that begs another question. Who is the future 1st baseman for the Sox? Is there anyone in the minors who could be that guy?

E-readers (Kindle for me) have to be one of the best inventions. I still like to read a real book once in a while, but being able to get a book immediately is nice. Plus, I've found many lesser known authors by downloading books for $.99 or $1.99. I got a $50 Amazon gift card for my birthday, and I've downloaded 8 books and still have $22 left. I may not love all of the books, but I'll take a shot at something that sounds good and gets decent customer reviews for a buck or two. I just started Jeff Strand's Graverobbers Wanted: No Experience Necessary. Great horror/thriller/comedy mix. He and Jack Kilborn (J. A. Konrath) have worked together in the past. The short story collection Suckers was one of the funniest books I've ever read.
  24. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 10:35 AM) People express negativity when things are going badly, and positivity when things are going well. Its just what happens on forums. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. That's true, but DA has a point. There are some folks who just seem to salivate over the team playing poorly so they post their unending diatribe of complaints about the team and the individual players. Most of us will throw some complaints out there when things are going bad (see Gavin Floyd's performance last night) and say good things when things are going well. It's those constant complainers that disappear when things start to go well. However, it doesn't really bother me in game threads. You have to take 50%+ of the posts in game threads with a grain of salt. It's the posts (and threads) saying player X (Viciedo has been a target several times) needs to be traded/benched when said player is actually performing decent that bother me.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 11:32 PM) I will be sad if Sox fans boo Ozzie. Hopefully the games will be in Miami. Although I could see some rabid fans going to razz Ozzie. Just cheer him, folks, and we'll all be happy. Stay classy. If Ozzie gets booed heavily Chicago will be the laughingstock of the nation. You'd be booing a man who engineered the city's first WS title since what, 1917? It would be the biggest "what?" moment for the nation perhaps in the history of sports. Booing the man who helped us win the rarest of rarities, a WS title. I guess my reasoning could change if Sox win the WS this year, but that's the only way it would not be a total embarrassment to the great city of Chicago. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 01:35 AM) Can you PLEASE enlighten me why you would boo the manager of our only WS title team in a zillion years (provided we don't win it this year)? You don't think the nation would think Sox fans are ungrateful animals? Here we go again. Ozzie did everything right for one season, and the Sox won the World Series. By the end of his tenure here, Ozzie was a bumbling, loud-mouth, fight-picking lame excuse for a manager. And he QUIT! Oh, and in case you didn't notice he's not doing much better in Miami...you know, where he ran to. That being said, I doubt he'll get booed, at least not by the majority of the fans. I assume you'll hear polite applause with some boos mixed in. I personally wouldn't boo him, but I wouldn't cheer either. I'd be flagging down the beer vendor. To me, Ozzie is the manager for another team now.
